We are a small restaurant, with a Creole 'cooked-to-order' menu featuring the freshest Gulf Coast seafood. We launched in July 2012, the vibe is young with a nice tension between the old building and its new inhabitants.

Diner Reviews
  • "Sat at the bar and enjoyed attentive service (and a chance to watch and chat with the kind and efficient bartender). My drink (the Old Gold) was fantastic--smooth and smoky--and the bartender was kind enough to share the recipe. The turtle soup was spicy--just the right touch--a great way to start. The roast pork shoulder was fork-tender, just the right combination of spicy and sweet, and beautifully accompanied by the onion gravy and tasty grits. The perfect side (if you're looking for a little green vegetable) was the brussels sprouts hash...tender, a bit smoky, delicious. Finished with the strawberry trifle, with perfectly ripe berries, rich and yummy, though I wanted a bit more cake and a bit less pudding. All in all a fantastic meal."

  • "The true essence of New Orleans. Creole dishes with a warm welcoming ambience. Perfectly located within the downtown scene of the city. A creole gem of a restaurant well note by a creole girl of the city."

  • "Such hype. Very disappointing. Extremely slow service. Food came out lukewarm."

  • "Our group of 6 dined at Annunciation last Sunday night. 6 apps, 6 entrees, 6 desserts, all different and every one outstanding. Lemon Icebox Pie won the dessert contest. Crawfish Etouffee delighted our most discriminating roux critic. White tablecloths, waiters in black and white with colorful bow ties, great ambiance, elegant with a touch of fun. Splurged on a couple bottles of Staglin cabernet . . . omg, what a night."

  • "Had a great dinner at Annunciation. Started with a cocktail (Annunciation house punch--excellent!) and the oysters with brie and spinach. It was marvelous. Oysters fried perfectly. Had the drum with the thai-inspired coconut milk sauce and rice for my main course; very tasty, flavors were great. There was a fried root vegetable (parsnip?) mixed in with the rice that was a little strange; the entree was mostly soft textures (fish, rice) then you'd hit this hard piece which didn't work well. Had the budino for dessert which was a butterscotch flan/pudding topped with caramel and sea salt. It was decadent. The restaurant is smallish and as soon as a few tables were filled, it got loud quickly. But would definitely return for the food!"

  • "My food came out at room temperature (not cold, not warm, just there). The cornbread stuffing was too salty"

  • "Too expensive for what you get. Totally not worth it at all."

  • "I drive by this restaurant every week, and now I am ashamed I have not tried it sooner. Since Annunciation is not in the traditional Warehouse District area, it could be considered a hidden gem. Every course was delicious and the house cocktail list complimented the food quite well. This is also a great place to bring out of town guests to introduce them to how New Orleans cuisine should be done."

  • "Beautiful interior. Valet parking very convenient. We were seated immediately- had reservation. maitre'd friendly, manager at door? seemed nervous/stressed- had stiff/forced smile. Waitstaff attentive, offered suggestions, not friendly. Oysters with brie very good- oysters fried well, crispy. Chicken bon femme pink inside-could have been cooked another minute or so. Vegetables underneath chicken in a soup of very salty gravy/sauce. Veal ok, nothing special. Fettucine ok, nothing special. Wine $11/a glass- definitely 6 ounces. Generous portions of entree, couldn't finish entree, no room for desert. Dinner for two: $113.00 before tip. I won't be back. I prefer food, drinks, staff of other restaurants with that price point."

  • "The menu and ambiance are very similar to Clancy's also on Annunciation Street but Uptown but that's a good thing!"

  • "A new arrival, but with a chef who helped make Clancy's one of the best neighborhood gems. Similar palate, creative and competent. Wine list could benefit from from some less expensive but perfectly serviceable wines."

  • "This is one of my favorite places and typically I have very nice meals at the bar while chatting with the masterful and engaging bartender, Geoff, and other patrons (mostly locals). I would definitely give these dining-at-the-bar experiences a uniform 4-5 stars across the board. My most recent visit involved a reservation for a table for 4 and hence produced an invitation for this review: The food as usual was very good, very nicely prepared and very nicely presented. The sweetbreads especially are excellent. The restaurant was quite loud - even after being reseated to get away from a noisy group. Curiously, the bar area seems quieter. The service was attentive and well intentioned, but could use possibly a bit more training."

  • "We had a 6:30 reservation for Friday night. Half of our group was running late, but our waiter never made us feel rushed. The ambience was great, our food came out in a very reasonable amount of time and was delicious! There's a lot of great options, from appetizers, to dessert, so everyone should be able to find something they like. We generally spend one weekend a month in the city, and I always try and visit someplace I haven't been before. This was my first time dining at Annunciation, but I will definitely be back and I will be recommending it to my friends who are also frequently in town!"

  • "Enjoyed a nice romantic dinner early (7pm) on a Friday night. I had the mushroom lobster risotto and hubby had the bison steak. Both dishes were prepared perfectly. Would definitely go back."

  • "We showed up to a packed restaurant 45 minutes before our reservation (due to getting a quick taxi from Algiers Point). Front of house snuck us a table beside the front door. Lots of foot traffic walking past, but nice to be in a spot to ourselves. Our server was charming, knowledgeable and quite funny. Food was excellent, and the wine list more than suited our needs. We'll be back again."

  • "We were very excited about this restaurant given it's high 2013 praise. The space was cool but our table for 4 was too small when we had wine and tried to share aps. Three out of four of our main courses came out cold and we sent them back (I don't think I've ever done that before), it took ten minutes, the person who had their food already waited a while but then his food got cold, so he started eating and practically finished before our food arrived. When our food arrived, it was luke warm at best. The waiter apologized and gave lame excuse of not enough room in the kitchen. No manager said a word."

  • "This restaurant was lovely. Fresh, simple decor with nice lighting and not loud. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Our waitstaff were excellent. There were two waiters working together, one of the waiters was being trained. Very professional, both of them."

  • "We have been to Annunciation on several occasions, but I have never commented on our experiences. My wife and I seem to enjoy the restaurant more each time we go. Invariably, we are seated at our reserved time, and met with prompt and courteous service personnel. The menu is varied and delicious, offering something for even the most discerning palate, and the desserts are simply decadent. Cocktails tend to be on the small side, but the wine list should not be missed. We hope you enjoy your visit to Annunciation as much as we did."

  • "We went to Annunciation on a Friday night at 6:30 for our anniversary. Even though there were many tables available, they sat us right by a table of 12 people. I had the oysters and brie which was lukewarm with hunks of brie, not even melted. The server was polite but not energetic. The pompano was tasteless, the lobster and rissoto gummy. However, the oyster raine was fabulous. The Rockefeller was not. Sometimes it depends on what you order, but if so, we really missed the mark. The best part was the Montrachet Chardonnay. It did not disappoint."

  • "This restaurant is such a great find! I made reservations using OpenTable and was surprised to get my first choice during Mardi Gras! The server was very knowledgeable and friendly and the food was to die for. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and will definitely be coming back again. I would highly recommend this restaurant!"

  • "We decided to try a new place on this visit to NOLA, and made last minute reservations. We were seated quickly, and the staff easily accommodated an additional surprise member of our party. Appetizers were tasty (seared scallop w/ fois gras, baked oysters, and potato/leek/oyster soup of the day.) Entrees were good (grilled drum w/lime, coconut milk - a little heavy on the seasoning, which masked the bright lime flavor; sea scallops; lobster mushroom risotto - very creamy; bison filet - tender and flavorful.) Desserts were rich; we had the Budino, a creamy caramel concoction, and the chocolat pot de creme, which was deep, dark and delicious. Good wine list. Excellent service. Much too loud for casual dinner conversation with friends."

  • "There was nothing that we had that would say "I really need to come back". The food was good just not special. The waitress was bad. She was impatient, her comments were short and borderline rude and had no knowledge of the menu items preparation. In a city of excellent eateries and servers, Annunciation does not make my list."

  • "Great Food, Excellent Location, Excellent Ambiance...pretty much sums it up. The only small disappointment I had was expecting this restaurant to have some resemblance to Clancy's menu, but that was far from the case. The food was still excellent."

  • "My wife love's to try new places. I'm not fond of flavor foams and trendy chefs. I love innovation. We were both delighted with our delayed Valentine's dinner. Service was excellent, attentive without hovering, pleasantly interactive and creative. Everything was perfect. I'll leave description of the food to everyone else, they were right."

  • "This is a great choice for those who are also fans of Clancy's in Uptown. Our service was outstanding, the wine menu is good, and the food is excellent. My only complaint is one of our dishes came out cold and had to be sent back, but was great the second time around. We'll return, and highly recommend."

  • "I brought a date to Annunciation and it was a wonderful time. The blue crab cakes were delicious. Oysters and Brie on spin ache was good, but not for me. I had the lobster risotto which was really flavorful and rich. The best thing all night was the drum with coconut milk. It had a Thai influence and was incredible. Wine list was great, cocktails were great, and upstairs they have a quiet jazz bar which is convenient for after dinner drinks with a date"

  • "Very beautiful converted brick-walled house with a great feel to it, and an amazing menu with an interesting twist on some traditional New Orleans dishes (although the mixology menu underwhelmed). We tried the turtle soup, lime marinated crab claws, brie-covered fried oysters, and for our entree we had the pork shoulder and grits. Each dish we ordered was good, but the idea and presentation outpaced the flavor, although the brie-covered fried oysters were outstanding. I would recommend this place as a good date spot. Wine list was very solid, and there is a nice bar upstairs that plays live jazz which makes for a good spot to grab a quick after-dinner drink."

  • "We live near New Orleans, but hadn't heard of Annunciation, and decided we had to eat there after reading the fantastic reviews on Open Table. We were not disappointed. Marinated crab claws were in a light, tangy lime vinaigrette. Drum with crabmeat orzo and spaghettini with fried oysters were both awesome. Dessert was a salted butterscotch pudding. The menu had lots of appealing dishes and Tony our waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful with menu and wine list. Fun vibe and overall great experience."
