The atmosphere is great. Love the art work on the walls. The staff throughout the evening was friendly, knowledgeable about the menu offerings, and well trained/professional. The attention to detail started with the crisp white tablecloth, the look and wording of the menus (both food and drink) to the thoughtful presentation of each course. Everything was delicious. The skill with which the food was prepared was evident from the correct cooking of the meat to the combination of flavors and textures. In a word, "GO!""

  • "What a great looking room, I only wish the food matched. The chilled cucumber soup was good but the fennel foam on top had no flavor. If molecular gastronomy doesn't add flavor or texture don't go it. The duck with sour cherry was yummy but a horrible presentation. And the chocolate cake was old and bad!! It tasted like a walk in cool smells and for the amount of money I paid it should have been fresh. With so many good places to eat in KC I will go someplace else next time."

But this was my first visit to Affare and it was a great option for a pre-show dinner. The food was fantastic (I had the bratwurst plate mushroom soup; my friend the beet salad and elk loin). I particularly recommend the mushroom soup - so flavorful!. Parking was easy, although may be complicated by the building of the streetcar line in coming months. The service was impeccable. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and I definitely plan to go back. "

We celebrated a recent victory with a group, and Affare developed a special pre-fixe menu just for us (even wishing one member of our group Happy Birthday on it!). We dined outside on a perfect night, seated underneath flowers that fell on us at just the right rhythm. The food was exquisite: Affare seems to pick out the best locally available produce. We ate the most memorable and delicious spring asparagus soup I've ever had, a morel-dumpling dish that I couldn't finish because the soup had been so filling, and a delicate apple strudel with multiple textures. Chef Martin came out and thanked us. What a night!"

  • "We went with friends to Affare on a weeknight. The menu was innovative, with some classic German dishes along with more modern interpretations. The wild mushroom soup starter was fantastic. We all had different entrees and all were visually well presented and very tasty. The scallop dish was a bit on the small side though. Dessert was also very enjoyable. As a person with a food allergy, the pastry chef made a special dessert for me that was a very nice touch. The decor is a bit sparse, but the music was soft enough to hold a conversation without yelling, but loud enough to enjoy as background. Ask for the bar and lounge menu along side the regular table menu. The bar menu has home-made pretzel items that must be sampled. "

The waitress knew the menu well and even suggested a dish that wasn't on i when I asked what were her favorites so we sampled their version of Mac and Cheese. Creamy, smooth made with spaezle, and chorizo. All of us had something with eggs and they were all cooked perfectly with nice orange yolk. They emphases buying directly off local farms and have selected farms that truly help make the food appealing and super fresh tasting. "

We arrived before our six friends, and after being seated, no one came to see if we wanted drinks while waiting. The waiter was nice, but very slow and not attentive at all. We had to look for him. He never came to refill water glasses until we were ready to leave. "
