A word from Accanto
Accanto is a lively cafe, enoteca and neighborhood gathering spot located next to Genoa restaurant in Southeast Portland. Accanto inhabits a formerly vacant space in the historic Genoa Building. Offering several antipasti, small plates, housemade pastas and large plates all meant for sharing, Accanto’s menu will change with the seasons. Accanto's wine list draws from Europe, as well as the Pacific Northwest; guests can also choose from Genoa's extensive bottle selection. The beverage list features cocktails made with spirits from local distillers, as well as Italian Grappas and digestivos. Since we live in the greatest beer city in the world, local microbrews will always be on tap. After many years in the making, this quiet neighborhood corner finally comes to life.   • "We sat for three hours enjoying a leisurely dinner with friends. We had an excellent bottle of red wine with salads, steak tartare, pasta with dungenous crab and another with pork and fennel. We followed with donuts, ice cream and coffee. It was quiet, comfortable and reasonably prices."

  • "I have been here several times for dinner and for happy hour. Great food and beverages for both. They serve inpired and artistic foods that are well worth the try. Reasonably priced. The bar is right next to an open kitchen. Fabulous charcuterie plate, olives and marcone almonds."

  • "Brunch at Accanto was amazing!! My mom and I split 3 menu items. Ricotta donuts, duck hash and a salad. All were stellar and the duck hash was sublime. The perfect combo of meat, brussel sprouts, potatoes and eggs. The donuts were delicious as well. The prices are a little more spendy than the average brunch but totally worth it. I will definitely be going back! One of the best things about this restaurant is they allow brunch reservations... I'm tired of the 'let's wait an hour in line for brunch' thing that PDX thrives on. Being able to reserve a table for 2 people was fantastic!"

  • "We had high expectations for our first visit to Accanto and it exceeded on all fronts. Every dish we had was beautifully prepared and presented and our server was extremely professional and knowlegeable. The orichette had a perfect hit of spice in the sausage, the spinach and lamb lasagna was a beautifully balanced and not cloyingly heavy treat for your palate. The chicken was spectacular with perfect skin and a sauce that made you just want to lick the plate. We were there for a birthday so we went a little nuts on dessert and they blew us out of the water. As long time fans of Castagna and the cafe we splurge on the restaurant for the over the top food experience. Genoa is fabulous, but Accanto delivers fabulous in the cafe as well."

There are so many excellent brunch places in town. I would come back if I didn't feel like waiting at the other ones."

  • "Style, service, wine is impecible at Accanto. Some courses outstanding - an ah-ha moment. Fried trout and fried pork cutlet overcooked. Orecchiette pasta a bit thick, cappellini pasta with pea shoots wonderful, butter lettuce salad with creamy tarragon awesome, pea and leek risoto the best. Brussels Sprouts heavenly. Desserts outstanding."

  • "My friend and I were really looking forward to this dinner. We were seated 20 mins past the reservation time. The hostess was really nice about it but it was awkward since theres no place to wait without hovering over other diners. Then we saw that the fix price menu was different from the one listed on the dining month website. It took 2 hours to get our main course and by then I was just too hungry to be pleasant, I pretty much housed the food and wanted to leave. This was my second time trying the restaurant and the first experience was very similar (eg, slow food times, apologetic servers, no offers of free dessert or anything to leave a better feel). I wont be attempting a third try here with all of the other awesome options around."

  • "I had a friend in town and wanted to take her somewhere great, Accanto fit the bill! She said her food was delicious, the space is lovely and it was small enough so we could hear one another. Every table was filled, so there was a lively buzz without the noise level being overwhelming. She had a friend with her, as did I - we all left full, happy and wanting to come back for more!!"

  • "Meh.that's how I'd review this restaurant. Im not cheap when it comes to good food at restaurants but the appetizers were very small. Paid $ for one egg (one egg cut in half= the deviled egg appetizer ). The pasta was mediocre. Not bad just not fabulous."

  • "The food was delicious; I had the duck hash, while my friends each had the Benedict. My hash was the highlight of the brunch; my girlfriend felt the saffron in the hollandaise was a step too far. Our service, however was spot on, not too invasive while still being attentive. However, we did have to actively try to attract her attention once, when there was a small spill, to get another napkin. She was very helpful otherwise, and offered great suggestions. I will be returning and recommending Accanto to friends."

  • "I had never heard of Accanto but we were looking for an Italian restaurant for a family dinner that would not break the bank. I was impressed with the decor and the food. Wonderful Italian dishes, everything we had was excellent. Fritto misto was light, and tasty, all the pasta dishes we had were very flavorful and the brusselsprout side was to die for! I have already told people about Accanto and will definitely be back!"

  • "I came here twice in the span of two weeks: once for a birthday dinner with small group of friends and again on a nice date with my significant other. Both visits were great. The atmosphere is a lot of fun and while it's not a quiet place I rarely had trouble hearing what my dining companions were saying. Food and cocktails were delicious and interestingly presented but still had the satisfaction of any good Italian meal. The service was also excellent. Appetizer, drinks, dinner and a split dessert for 2 ran us about $70 before tip."

  • "We don't get out for nice dinners too often, so when we do it has to count. I scored big points with this choice. The space is bigger than it looks from the outside and can seat a good number of diners without feeling crowded. The Fritto Misto was a great start and not to be missed. Lightly and perfectly fried calamari, shrimp, fennel, and green olives. It was all great, but we're still talking about how awesome those olives were. She had the special of lobster linguine and I had the lasagna, and Ken's artisan bread. Both dishes were on the money. I know we'll be back and it will be hard to stray from that lasagna. Service was pleasant, professional and not intrusive or rushing. To top it off the whole meal cost less than expected."

  • "We went to Accanto for Valentine's Day. We are foodies and like to try many Portland restaurants. The food was outstanding. There was no part of our meal that was less than amazing. The smoked chicken was the best chicken I have ever tasted. The Myers Lemon dessert was ---- well you get the idea. The staff was very friendly and even though it was one of the busiest nights of the year we were seated right at our reservation time. Go, you will not be disappointed."

  • "I usually love the food. This visit: ordered crab salad - very good with a nice meld of flavors in the dressing and plenty of crab. Antipasti dishes: deviled eggs, fried oysters, and fois gras butter with two radishes. Fois gras butter really needed bread because it was more butter than foi gras and two funky radishes were not enough to offset richness of the butter. Charged extra for the bread as a side (really?). The fried oysters-too heavily battered but okay, and the eggs were just okay. Squid ink spaghetti with shellfish, which I enjoyed in the past: sauce too rich for the shellfish or just too much sauce. Cardamon pistachio gelato excellent. The server was a bit snippy and rushed, was hard to get his attention. Great table, though."

  • "Accanto was a perfect middle of the road portland restaraunt. The food was very good, the staff was welcoming and the ambiance was nice. I'm not a full blown foodie, many of our friends are, I have had the chance to eat at many of portland's most renouned restaurants. The ambiance and the food go hand in hand with me. I like to feel comfortable and to be eating good sized portions and this place ticked those boxes -- the super experimental are not where it's at for me. The dinner I attended was 5 friends who had a lot of catching up to do, we were there 4 hours on a Friday night, got drinks, dinner and dessert and had a wonderful time chatting and eating, we never once felt rushed or encumbered by the bustle of the restaurant."
