Diner Reviews
  • "The food and service were outstanding. The location of the restaurant leaves a lot to be desired and I was about to drive on by but I am glad that I stopped and gave it a try."

  • "Waiter, Lee, was.great. Food was fabulous. Cobia was great, filet was excellent--with potatoes that were so yummy. Abiance is nothing....clearly people to for the high quality food....!"

  • "Ordered the steak & it was 1/2 gristle..very disappointing"

  • "Prices are more than reasonable for the venue. It was extremely quiet at 6:30 - ideal. Will dine again. Also wish there are less fishy options as a standing menu and rotating menu would be ideal."

  • "Fantastic Dinner for two on Valentines. Unbelievable, right? No fixed menu, just normal routine. Incredible food, perfect service. Reasonably priced. It's nice to be able to leave a positive review for a restaurant in this town. Great job !!!!"

  • "This was an impromptu dinner for valentine's day. Making a reservation was a snap. We cook a great deal at home serving meals from basic backyard bbq to intricately prepared courses. So, we are a bit discriminating on the menu, service and the meal. A La Provence does a wonderful job training their servers. Gary was the consummate waiter. Our high expectations were soundly met. My husband ordered the duck and lamb, medium. I ordered the salmon. The chef prepared both to perfection! I also had a greens salad, which I suspect was obtained from a local grower. It was very fresh and the greens still retained their delicate flavors. If I had one wish it was to have a sorbet offered to clear the palate after dinner."

  • "Ambiance and food is great. My wife and I both have food allergies (gluten and shellfish) and we have found that this restaurant has always worked with us to be sure that our food was prepared properly. They willing change side items on their menu to get around issues. This our favorite "special occasion" restaurant."

  • "I have been to A La Provence three times in the past year or so, twice with groups and once with my husband. Each time the food has been excellent and the service impeccable. Highly recommended."

  • "My girlfriend and I went for pre-Valentine's Day dinner the Thursday before and the restaurant was was full and busy but manageable. The food was pretty great, the service was good but the ambience and the crowd was not so great. There were a few loud tables and it definitely threw off the experienc, though the food was fantastic so it didn't matter so much."

  • "I enjoyed lunch with my two friends and we shared our meal. We were left with only clean plates at the end of the meal. We enjoyed every bite!"

  • "A relaxing evening, excellent service and food selections that would wet anyone's appetite, was experienced at A La Provence. A French wine (what else) contributed to this special occasion. An additional bonus is the fixed cost option that includes soap or salad, appetizer, main course and desert. Most of the main course selections are included in the fixed price ( I believe it was $47.50). I consider A La Provence the only 5 star restaurant in Tallahassee."

  • "Great food Also a great wine list. The crab cake and lamb are terrific followed by the scallops and fillet"

  • "Wanted a close place to see old friends. Everyone found a great dish. it was intimate enough for us to converse and catholic up."

  • "It has always been one of my favorite restaurant at Tallahassee. I think that they should offer more choices in main courses (especially in seafood and pork). Their wine-list has to improve and the waiters should know a little more about the wines available by the glass."

  • "Although the restaurant was quiet and attractive, the server was abrupt and seemed more interested in the fact her computer was down than our order. It isn't that she wasn't attentive; she was. (We were her only customers.) It was her attitude: cold, distant. My husband had hoped to find interesting French dishes but it was soups, salads and sandwiches at lunch."

  • "Food quality not in sync with price. 2 very loud men at a 4-top within close proximity ruined any chance of a positive ambience. Service was very good but overall poor value. Don't want a free meal so I will not be completing the private email section."

  • "The roasted salmon and accompanying vegetables, prime rib and oyster appetizer were all delicious. The dining spot was cozy and somewhat private for the 2 of us."

  • "I visited this restaurant based on their website and reviews, but was sorely disappointed. First impression was not good, and nothing we experienced made that impression any better. For the exorbitant prices I was first disappointed to be handed a xerox copied paper menu. The atmosphere is also stuffy and dated...not comfortable. The food was not impressive, either. Edible, sure...but nothing special, and VERY overpriced! Service was adequate, but the evening was an overall let down. We will not be back."

  • "Very nice elegant dinner. They had a special menu for the evening, so price fix option was not available. We ordered the crab cake and eggplant appetizers. Both were very good; no filler in crab and eggplant was crisp and all garnishes brought Flavors over the top. Was not planning to order onion soup but after seeing it on virtually every table, decided to try it. It is a must order! The topping of course is everyone's favorite but I have never tasted such delicious onion soup ever! Lobster and filet for 2 was our entree, was also very good but lobster was borderline over cooked. Mercedes our waitress was fantastic, very attentive and knowledgable. Grand Marnier souffle and choclate mousse and French pressed coffee ended a lovely meal."

  • "Not exactly a foodie's dream place. For an experienced foodie, the food was just one notch above ok. The dishes were hit and miss, some were really good but some lacked flavor. The escargot that was very bland, lots of butter, but no seasoning although the cheese on the escargot was a good touch. The G. Marnier soufflé was great in presentation and consistency but also lacked flavor, and was not sweet enough. The waiter was a super nice guy and very friendly. He was trying real hard and working his tail off, but not up to par with high end restaurants. The best way to describe the experience from a well developed palate was "ok" for the overall product. Stick to the beef dishes, out of the 8 dishes ordered they were the best."

  • "I usually cook for numerous people on Thanksgiving. But this year, four of us decided it just wasn't worth the energy to cook, so we made a reservation at A La Provence. Wow! What a good idea. Loads of traditional foods from which to choose -- both the turkey and the lamb were delicious. Plus they piled the plates high so I had left overs for a couple of days, just as though I had cooked it myself, but without all the hassle of actually planning and cooking it. And the food was delicious! I think we started a new tradition this year!"

  • "Food and service were both excellent, and come with a little of the old world charm. We were pleasantly surprised to see that La Provence is essentially a "farm-to-table" restaurant now. Organic ingredients from local farms and dairies. Very nice! Great for special occasions."

  • "This is my third time dining at the restaurant and I continue to be pleased and satisfied. The food is consistently good. The only slightly negatives I have are in regards to the atmosphere. The lighting was a bit too dim and though there were only a few other couples dining when we were, they still seated us right next to another group of four. I would have appreciated a little elbow room. Everything from drinks, appetizers, entree to coffee were delicious. We will be back."

  • "Tucked away in Market Square shopping center in North Tallahassee off of Capital Circle NE and visible from I-10, is a lovely, intimate restaurant with outstanding food. A wide variety of interesting dishes are available, including a 4 course meal for a price fixed $47. A professional server made sure everything went perfectly. The courses were unhurried, we never felt rushed. Instead, one lovely course followed another, all wonderfully prepared. The only problem was that the lights which illuminated the sign were off, and we drove by the restaurant without noticing it. After getting some local help (we were visiting), we went in and were treated to an excellent dining experience."

  • "Although A la Provence tried hard, it failed to meet expectations. It is located in the rear of a strip mall and the decor is dated. The food, although adequate, is too "americanized." Although the waiter was very nice and attentive, he lacked the charm and sophistication of a good french restaurant server."

  • "Quaint and ambient atmosphere, perfect for a date or a nice family dinner. The food is OUTSTANDING. You truly cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. The filet was cooked to perfection - the best I've ever had- and the mahi mahi topped with fried avocado was mouthwatering. Be sure to try the chocolate mousse for dessert, a classic French treat. HIGHLY recommend this restaurant - it's really no more expensive than any other nice restaurant in town such as Front Porch or Bonefish, and the quality of food and service at A La Provence is tenfold."

  • "I ate there this week on two consecutive nights....I had groups of friends from out-of-town. The menu was large and we wanted everything....so we had everything....from hors d'oeuvres to desserts. All superb. My friends from New Orleans are true foodies and they ate everything and couldn't believe that such quality food (comparable to N.O.) was found here in Tallahassee. I think A La Provence has returned to its former greatness."

  • "I was very disappointed with my experience here. I ordered the seafood tagliatelle and it was extremely bland, even after seasoning with salt and pepper it was quite tasteless. For an upscale venue the service is lacking. That is not to say our waitress was not friendly, however not very attentive. This is not a restaurant I will be dining at again. For the price point you are looking at here there are a number of restaurants in town that offer better food, better service and a better atmosphere."
