  • "I have been to many nice restaurants around the US and this was really fabulous ! My only complaint was I ordered the very expensive bone in steak and per the advice of the waitress ordered it med well to get it pink in the middle and it came out no pink what so ever. I wanted to send it back but felt bad that a whole cow was used to get that cut ! I had wished the waitress had not led me to Oder med well"

  • "Yes another steak (ok chop)house in the area but the vibe seems better than the old haunts. Our server knew his stuff & others jump in to make sure you are served well. Management is very present & paying attention, a mistake many restaurants make. Our lamb was cooked as ordered & yummy. The scalloped potatoes extremely tasty. The bread comes too hot but better than cold. The Caesar salad can use some upping, & we wish they had suggested just one of us get the butter add-on...not really necessary or flavorful. Wish we had room for dessert because they all sounded good but not this time around!"

  • "My husband and I ate at 801 Chophouse this evening and loved it. We shared a ribeye steak, NY strip steak, mac & cheese side, and garlic mashed potatoes side and were blown away. We also had a wedge salad and Caesar salad, which were good. It is great that the restaurant offers half-size portions on salads and most of the side dishes. The half-size sides easily serve three people. It is too bad we were too full from dinner, because the desserts sounded amazing."

  • "Steaks were very good. Sides might even be better. Mac and cheese, maytag blue cheese potatoes, brussel sprouts great. We ordered 4 half sides and had way too much to eat. It is sooooooo expensive, but a good dining experience. Excellent service. Very, very loud."

  • "We hit up this place for our anniversary dinner. The service was great, and the food was good. However, for that price I expect to leave thinking something I ate was amazing and must return for it. I didn't get that, and my husband felt the same. So, nothing was bad, but would go elsewhere in the future to spend that kind of money."

  • "First time to 801, overall was very good. Had the filet which was perfectly prepared medium rare. Gnocchi and brussel sprout sides were excellent. Carlos was our server, very helpful and attentive. Our gnocchi came out a few minutes after the brussels sprouts (no big deal) and we were given a free glass of wine...classy. Highly recommend for a special night."

  • "Our waiter, Brett was the consummate professional! Food was delicious, drinks were fabulous. Loved the concept of sharing side dishes and salads. Can't wait to return!"

  • "2nd time back to 801 and again food and service was fantastic. Thank you."

  • "Prices were reasonable, service was great. We ordered from the fixed price menu (great deal) which had a couple of options. My wife ordered the filet, I had the prime rib. The filet was good but about 60% of the prime rib was very tough. Hard to cut and even harder to chew. We had a later lunch so what was edible was a sufficient portion or I would have sent it back. The vegetables and desert were very good. It was my first time at the restaurant so it may just be random chance but I've never had a bad cut at at other upscale steak oriented restaurants."

  • "Best steak house in Clayton! New, clean, great layout, classic bar, amazing food & wine selection, classic steakhouse service with inside and outside dining. Perfect for after work drinks, special occasion or business dinner, or casual outside drinks & dinner with friends."

  • "I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and it was an excellent choice. Our server Carlos was wonderful and the food was exquisite!"

  • "The steak tastes bitter and burned. It still tastes good but not for the price. Towards the end of my meal, i felt like losing appetite. For a meal for two that costs more than $100, i expect the quality is much more better. The server was not polite and serve based on customer looks. Overall, i don't recommend this place again. There are other quality steak restaurants in St Louis metro."

  • "We had the ribeye & filet and both were perfect in every way. The steaks were "amazing" and definitely worth the price. I loved that our server also offered us half orders for both the sides and salads; they too were perfect. We loved it and we'll be returning!"

  • "This restaurant is quite expensive but definitely worth at least one trip with your special someone. Service was impeccable. The food was fabulous and the cocktail menu was exciting."

  • "Not often that a dining experience is perfect in every way from the time you walk through the front door until you leave. This was one of those exceptional experiences. Everything was complete perfection!"

  • "We had a really nice time. The service was excellent and food was awesome. We were celebrating our 5th year anniversary....the waiter mentioned it to the on staff pastry chef. She prepared a delightful surprise! My veal chops were soo tasty. The side items were plenty...order half sizes and still able to share. The filet medallions were cooked perfectly. Our specialty drinks were perfectly made. Overall, a nice night out. One negative...if your looking for a romantic Quiet place....I give it a 5 outta 10. Kinda noisy...but not overwhelming."

  • "The food was fantastic. The servers and all the staff was very friendly, helpful really knew what they were serving. The restaurant had a very elegant feeling but not snobbish."

  • "OK--it's a chain--but don't let that deter you. Four of us visited 801 Chophouse on a recent Saturday night and left singing the new restaurant's praises. Everything from start to finish was memorable. Calamari was delectable, tender and abundantly thick, and the crab cake offered genuine crab, no fillers here. The house salad was divine--and don't shy away from the poached egg on top. Talking pork--consider a chop from Deppe Farms in Washington. Never tasted better, a sow-sized portion, succulent and juicy. Lamb chops also didn't disappoint; our table mate proclaimed them the best he's ever had. A filet mignon was also juicy, top grade, and offered in 6 and 8 oz. Expensive as all get out--you bet. But 801 Chophouse was worth it."

  • "Everything was perfect. We went there to celebrate a promotion and it was the place to do just that. Fabulous food from the start to finish. Every single thing we tasted was superb! Our server was very attentive without being annoying, he was perfect! A must try!"

  • "Flemings has nothing to fear. We arrived a sat at the newly renovated bar. Beautiful bar with friendly and professional bartenders. Felt like I was in New York. Restaurant was half full (was a Wednesday night). The waiter wasn't the brightest nor speediest. First course, we had salads which were pretty good. Nothing great. The wine was good. Had 3 selections of cab by the glass. Main courses were very average. Friend ordered a steak medium and charred. It arrived well done. The chicken was good somewhat over-salted. Scallops were very good. Overall, average at best. Glad I used a groupon."

  • "i have to say, that the steak was slightly overcooked and salty (had to send it back), however the service that we got was so great that the overall experience was wonderful. the lobster mac/cheese was delicious"

  • "The service was impeccable! I put a note that we were celebrating an anniversary and they took the liberty of personalizing the menus, decorating the table and putting us in a private room. It was a great surprise."

  • "This is an excellent restaurant. The food, the service, and the atmosphere were top-notch. I truly hope that this restaurant survives because the area which it is in (Clayton) just looks dead on Saturday night."

  • "Our server was friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. His recommendations were right on - and the food was wonderful. The noise level made it difficult to talk at the table. On a high note you could not overhear anyone else’s table conversation either!"

  • "The steaks and all the food were top-quality cuts and perfectly cooked. I'm being overly picky, but given the price tag, I think it's appropriate. The steaks were on the tough side. With the quality of the meat, my guess is that they went on the grill still cold from the cooler, rather than letting them sit out until they reached room temperature before grilling. With as busy as the place was, I imagine that it's difficult to anticipate how many steaks to prep. But the old adage is, "a cold steak is a tough steak." And if you're a high-end steakhouse, you've got to nail it."

  • "It is REALLY noisy! For what you pay for the food, I would want to have a more "soothing" experience. We had to raise our voices in order to hear each other, not a pleasant experience. Plus my husbands $62 Delmonico steak was WAY too done, he asked for medium. And we also had a lot of leftovers that we were taking with us home. When we got home to put it all away, we had someone else's food with us home!!! So all the food we paid and wanted to bring w us home wasn't even given to us! Have tried to contact the restaurant via email about our somewhat disappointed birthday celebration experience but haven't heard back from anyone. This whole thing have put a damper on us of ever going back."

  • "Attended a business dinner meeting on 6/26/2014. The restaurant was busy and only a few spots open at the oval bar. While the restaurant was packed, it didn't effect our service, quality of food or wait time. We utilized a private dining space where we were able to have a discussion without having to talk over the outside noise. The restaurant was a little loud, but to be expected with it being so busy. I had the bone in filet with the morel butter topper and lobster mashed potatoes, best steak I've ever had! Our table ordered 3 deserts to share, all were wonderful. This was an upscale restaurant and priced accordingly, but worth every penny. We'll be back!"

  • "We were there for a wedding anniversary and were startled at the noise level when we walked in the door. There is a large oval bar in the center of the room which was full and very noisy. The maître-d table seemed a bit chaotic, they seemed unsure where to put us. Turned out they were searching for a special "happy anniversary" menu for us. Nice touch. The food was wonderful, as was the service. But the tables are extremely close to the bar and the noise level is such that it is not at all conducive to a quiet, romantic anniversary dinner. They served us a lovely, complimentary dessert which also said "happy anniversary". The vibrant bar scene and layout of the restaurant makes it inevitable to be loud. Expensive, but we expected that."

  • "Very good food-service-ambiance. Noise level is as bad as the food is good. Very difficult to have conversation or romantic dinner. Everyone I sent has same feeling. Do something or will not last. Customers must be able to communicate when dining in this caliber restaurant & price. We had a great dinner but the negative of loud atmosphere was overwhelming to us & therefore will not rush back but will return on occasion. We eat out 3-4 times per week."

  • "This restaurant is for the very rich and famous. The prices of wines were way over the top. The noise level reminded me of eating at the mess hall in the Army."

  • "6 of us were at 801 on a busy Saturday evening, and the service was extremely slow. We waited well over 20 minutes for drinks to arrive. When inquiring politely of the waitress if I had indeed ordered another cocktail, I was told she was "too busy to get to the bar yet". I went to bar myself to get a drink, and that upset our server. She noticed I had a new drink, and 10 minutes later finally brought me another, saying "Oh, look how many you have now". After that point, her service was noticibly less attentive, and she was very snippy with us. Also, my coffee arrived full of grounds, not a coincidence. The food was good, not great. Much too noisy for reasonable conversation. All in all, the Des Moines restaurant is much better."

  • "From Valet service, hostess, waiter to pastry chef delivering our desserts each and every person was polite and well trained. Less than a minute wait for our hostess to seat us and another minute until our waiter came and introduced himself. He was very well trained about meat selections and matching our wants to the menu choices. Food and drinks were produced quickly, never rushed and never waited.. perfect. Steak was the best ever along with the sides and desserts.....we'll be back"

  • "Nice food but extremely pricy for the quality. Wine list wast extrmily over priced and populated with most wines in the 125-200 range. Service was good the food just pricy compare to other steak houses in town"

  • "paid 65$ for a Delmonico steak...it was prepared correctly,, but was over salted to the point of almost being inedible . the biggest problem was how tough the steak was....even with a sharp steak knife I had to saw and grind at the meat to cut it. for a premier cost steak house this should not be allowed. i'd go back, but next time only do appetizer and salad. seems that st Louis will never have a top steak house like new York city or chicago"

  • "Had expected this to be a great space and it was. The server was outstanding and very receptive to my having 2 kids with the party. Steaks were cooked to order. Perhaps a little more "char" than desired especiallyhad on med rare ribeye. Appetizers were very tasty. We had chowder, calamari, and crab cakes. Sides were very generous. No room for desert. EXCELLENT and rarely seem by the glass Pahlmeyer Cab "Jayson". Would recommend, but be ready to pay for it. It's not an expensive. Not the best I have ever had, but, with the service and wine selection, it would be hard to beat. Almost worth the price tag."
