Zuni Caesar salad
Chicken for Two
roasted in the brick oven; warm bread salad with scallions, garlic, frilly mustard greens, dried currants, and pine nuts (approximately 60 minutes)
with Manchego cheese, paprika almonds, and citrus vinaigrette
I always enjoy Zuni. Great ambiance and reliably good food. Caesar salad was great. This time every other dish was too salty. The fish, the soup, the veggie plate. It’s expensive and more so now. I will return but hope the chef gets his taste buds in check
Food worth paying attention to, each and every time.
The wait staff were lovely and the interior of the restaurant is lovely. The food is highly disappointing. Very expensive for tasteless food. Seasoning was bland, portions for salads very tiny. The salad on top of their signature chicken tasted like straight olive oil with no seasoning. Food is lackluster and does not live up to its reputation. All of the dishes our party of 5 had lacked any flavor. I would avoid spending your money at this restaurant. I had known about this restaurant for years, and the folks who were with me said that over the years they had less than stellar food here. Not worth it. So many other better restaurants to choose from.
Came fir a lunch with family. Great service and food. Can be a bit pricey.
Always the best of the best, perfection in every way!
From our cocktails at the bar to the dessert, everything was excellent. The Caesar salad was fresh, crisp, beautifully dressed and the croutons delicious- we split it and the half portion was so generous I couldn’t even finish it. My entree was swordfish cooked perfectly with a fresh grapefruit sauce
Reception staff was not friendly. Food was mediocre at best and considering the price, very overpriced. This used to be a favorite of ours but no longer. One of the dinners was served lukewarm. Meat was tough.
It is too bad!
Great food and service!
The upstairs seating on the little patio facing Market Street is a little awkward.
The ventilation system shakes the built-in seating and if you are not sat on the edge of the balcony then there is no ambience and there's limited ambience even when on the edge of the balcony.
It doesn't compare with the atmosphere downstairs, or feels like the same restaurant.
Good service and great meal as always. I ordered a lemon drop martini and it was delicious!!!!!!
Great atmosphere and welcoming staff. Food was unique but limited selection and dessert was disappointing.
I’ve been going to Zuni for years and the quality has diminished considerably. Alot of fanfare and mediocre meals at this point. They also now add a 25%!!!! Fair wage charge to the bill without communication about that policy .This is misleading and unfair to the patrons of Zuni. And all with the expectation that we would tip on top of that charge which we did. Feels like trickery to us. Goodbye to a once wonderful SF establishment.
We love Zuni Cafe, and it was wonderful to come back for the first time since before the pandemic. Service and food are as lovely as always, and their Covid precautions make you feel safe and comfortable. One of the city's great restaurants for sure!
Although my experience was basically positive, I was disconcerted by the 25% surcharge imposed. Zuni is hardly inexpensive, so with this additional charge the bill was quite a bit more. Unfortunately, this necessitated my leaving a small tip which truly did not reflect the excellent service I received from the waiter.
This is an active bar scene. Great if you don't want to be heard or have any discussion with your dining partner. Food was good, but service was so so. Won't be back.
Food was great, Covid precautions very reasonable. Got super loud as dinner progressed. Service good but loads of hovering. Thrown off by the 25% service charge and that all tips or shared.
Happy to be back for the 1st time in 2 years. Food was great, but service was the best in years. Grazie! We'll be back.
Wonderful to be back. Service was careful and gracious; food outstanding.
Everything was OK. Many other equally expensive places with better food and service.
Our first time back after the pandemic arrived. It is still, OUTSTANDING!
Wonderful family brunch celebrating birthdays. So glad we are able to eat there again.
Zuni is now my friend's preferred choice whenever he comes into the city. Again food was excellent. We loved the kale soup & chicory salad. tried the rabbit dish and it was excellent as well. Services were again great.
Great timeless spot for a refined, classy get together.
The food is amazing and the staff is super attentive
Perfect evening again at the Zuni Cafe. Come, eat, enjoy the oyster, roasted chicken, great potato stick fries and wonderful deserts. This is the quintessential great bistro experience to be savored. Thanks to Jeff for making our dinner party a memorable evening. Hats off of Zuni!
Always a great dependable meal with fantastic ambiance and great service. One of my favorite restaurants to dine at in SF. Good for special occasions.
Everything was incredible…food, service, experience. Parking is a challenge though.
We had lunch outside and the food was excellent especially the pizza and salmon. Best meal in ages. Bravo!!
Great dinner, not the service I was used to at Zuni. Felt careless and they missed the big giant note on my reservation that said it was my moms birthday. And I let the host know as well and they still missed a candle. Food was excellent
Makayla was our server, AND, she was amazing, fun, beautiful and very attentive. She would keep checking back to see if there was anything more that we needed, without being intrusive. She was the best.
Extraordinary meal. Wonderfully professional staff. They’re a beautiful, fun to watch, well-oiled-machine, with an abundance of personality. Kumamoto Oysters, Wild Arugula Salad, Shoestring Potatoes, Orecchiette alla Bolognese. All delicious and memorable. I’ll certainly be back next time I find myself in the city. Thank you Zuni!
The roasted chicken for two must be eaten to be understood. There are lots of descriptions of it but the bottom line is it is the best chicken dish I have ever had. If I could choose my last meal on earth, this would be it. The wait for it to cook only builds the anticipation.
We loved the inviting space and warm welcome on arrival. Service was exceptional and personal throughout the evening. Both the food and the cocktails were exceptionally good.
It was all excellent, especially since the place was quite and not crowded at all due to the unusually generous spacing of the tables. (This must have been an odd and about the only benefit of the "damdemic.") It felt wonderful to be back at Zuni for the first time in about eighteen months. The one thing that we had a problem with is the fact that you are informed you will be paying extra 25 percent of your bill right off the bat, whether you like it or not. This is BEFORE tipping. What a disincentive to tip! It creates of course an unpleasant situation of feeling very uneasy to add the tip to our (excellent) server. The dilemma left a rather bad aftertaste in our mouths.... Pun unintended.
The chicken for two was terrible. Disappointed that the chicken was bland and the bread was soggy.
Classic, heritage establishment. A must visit destination when in San Francisco. Dining is always a treat, visit was enhanced with our lovely server Makayla who was professional, friendly, and attentive without being intrusive.
Lunch @ Zuni is such a treat. Caesar salad was the best We'd ever had. Chicken was fantastic. The Parm and dates for dessert were just the absolute best. Highly reccomend sitting outside if you can
It was wonderful to return to Zuni Cafe after so many years. The food was just as wonderful and perfect as always, especially the world famous whole roasted chicken with the amazing bread salad. There was even a talented accordion player who played “Hqppy Birthday” for my husband. Really worth it!
Didn’t like to be tucked in the small room with all the table busy when the rest of the other area were empty. But the chicken rock as usual! Service was good .
Everything was fantastic and consistent over 25 years
What a treat to be back at Zuni after a long time away! Our Saturday lunch was perfect: a selection of oysters, the kale farro salad, the new potatoes and coppa, and then the juicy burger with small order of addictive shoestring fries. All with pear cider. Our server was training a new person, and we could see the attention to detail and patience. It made us appreciate the careful and thoughtful service always provided at Zuni, which matches the quality of the food in excellence. We never felt rushed or ignored, just happy to be enjoying such a fine meal. A joyful return to a San Francisco classic!
