Even without a reservation, bar tables are available on a first come, first served basis and the full menu is available. The bar also serves traditional cocktails made with top-shelf ingredients; refreshments at its best in an environment of effortless hospitality. Whether you dine early or prefer to dine after theater, Zuni is a welcoming haven.
What Insiders Are Saying
Zuni Cafe in the Civic Center is still an icon, and it sits firmly at the top of our list of favorite restaurants in this town.
Fabulously prepared fresh California cuisine, great oysters and a comprehensive wine list. Zuni is a classic place but the vibe is priceless. We lived in the City for years and this place has adapted beautifully.
Two days in a row for lunch, both meals & company were perfection!
While the roast chicken met expectations, the soup of the day was a bit disappointing. The soup seemed like an afterthought using yesterday’s vegetables and was a little greasy. The service was great with regular follow-up by the waiter. The upstairs corner table was a bit cramped.
Food was wonderful and the service was excellent. We will be back.
As always, everything was great at Zuni Cafe. We had the Sunday Brunch and everyone enjoyed their meals. Started with oysters that were sweet and yummy, shared a beet salad and drank champagne. Lovely.
The food was very good. Portions were satisfying. The ambiance is quite beautiful especially the floor to ceiling windows.
much better options for the price, not bad but overrated
Zuni continues to be one of my favorite restaurants when visiting SF. Consistently great food and service!
Wonderful as always
Always the same!
Pure and beautiful food and well chosen wines!
The biggest problem encountered was parking. Otherwise the service and menu are outstanding.
Always absolutely unique and amazing! Everything on the menu is exceptional.
Great restaurant with attentive service. The service was even a little fast since I was ready to linger over dinner - but it was a late seating and not too busy so I would judge accordingly. the second floor was the nicer surrounding for a dinner - drinks on the main would be nice.
It was, overall, pretty good...but fell short of expectations. Nothing was “terrible” or even “bad”-but there were “misses”...enough to be slightly disappointing at times
This remains one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco. Service is almost always superb and the food is consistently delicious. I had tomato soup, strawberries, pizza and Eton mess for dessert. I wish pavlova was on this dessert menu. Decor is eclectic and stylish.
Zuni never disappoints.
Unfortunately, the chicken was dry.
My son’s 16th birthday. He picked Zuni last year, too, and was thrilled that squash blossoms and panna cotta were on the menu. I think he cried a little when he had only one bite left of the squash blossoms.
Mediocre food with expensive price tag. Skimpy Caesar salad.
The roasted chicken is worth the wait! It was perfectly done and the bread salad in the middle was amazing. We also got some oysters and the arancini which were fantastic
So lucky to have scored a last minute (after theater) reservation this past weekend. The service was very professional and attentive. The inspired menu had breadth and something for everyone in our party. Probably the best Caesar Salad and stuffed squash blossoms I've ever had. The Bavette steak was a bit under cooked for me, despite asking for a higher temperature - but the cook knew what he/she was doing as I thoroughly enjoyed every tasty bite!
It was our fist time there and we simply loves it.
Wonderful shoestring fries, roast chicken and Caesar salad, wonderful service and ambiance. Loved the gin cocktail. Too noisy for us, though.
Very nice restaurant
Have been coming here for many years

Vine list does not have any selection below $55 per bottle
Need to have better selection with better value!
Get the chicken - it is famous for a reason! Overall, we enjoyed our meal and would return.
Chicken overrated. Nothing really special going on. Kind of dry without any kind of sauce. $64 for a roasted chicken? I guess I’m the fool. Weird seating on concrete planks with nothing to support one’s back. How is that better or more space efficient than chairs? I’m baffled.
It still lives up to its stellar reputation. Excellent.
It was wonderful. Zunis is a “little” expensive so I don’t go there that often but the food is always superb and the staff is always friendly and knowledgeable.
We always come back for the roasted chicken. It does not disappoint. Great service.
Oyster selections were bountiful burger spot on.
Cocktails were delightful.
After many years of anticipating a visit, we finally made it last Sunday. I think we ALL have our off days, maybe we hit Zuni on one of their lesser days. Many service glitches from distracted waiters, food was fresh and flavorful - but not what we expected. Even as we were leaving the two hostesses were too busy to say good night or come again. With all the other restaurants to savour in San Francisco we will not return.
Zuni Cafe is a San Francisco tradition. The Oysters and the french fries are must haves. The service is among the best in the city. The food is amazingly fresh and we even loved the fresh bread. It is best to go early or late. Early they are still in stock of all of the oysters and late the vibe is a little more SF.
the dressing and the croutons on the salad were beyond perfect.
the chicken was as expected and we expected perfection.
Alex's service was charming and efficient.
we loved every minute of the meal.
We have being to Zuni many times and have always had a nice evening
Table for 1 was a fine. 10th time I was there. A must stop for me every time I’m in SF. Great California farm/table cuisine. If you want a new world wine, head to the bottles, not by the glass. Which works out as you can take it to go... :)
Absolutely amazing! The chicken, which they are known for, and what we went for was everything we hoped it would be and more! Best chicken I've ever had! And it's so simple! The warm bread salad in the middle of the chicken made it that much better! The fries were also amazing!
The entire meal was fantastic - and the roasted chicken lived up to my memory and my grand expectations. The raw oysters were delicious, too. The staff was friendly and thoughtful and able to engage with my 14-year old and 10 year-old kids. A lovely afternoon was had by all!
Wonderful food, even if they couldn't get my husband's burger cooked to medium. We had a great waiter who made everything right and an overall good experience. I would return the next time we are in the area.
Always a pleasure to dine at Zuni. Yes, the chicken and Tuscan bread salad is outstanding! Great wine list too!
Outstanding food and service
