Even without a reservation, bar tables are available on a first come, first served basis and the full menu is available. The bar also serves traditional cocktails made with top-shelf ingredients; refreshments at its best in an environment of effortless hospitality. Whether you dine early or prefer to dine after theater, Zuni is a welcoming haven.
Love this classic. The Caesar salad and chicken can’t be beat and the service was great. But it was so loud upstairs that we could barely hear one another.
We had a delightful meal and evening, seated next to the kitchen which might bother some people but, we found it fascinating to watch the chefs team at work. Thanks
Lots of gluten free options. Well worth the Uber ride from our hotel
I love Zuni’s atmosphere & that it is an SF staple, however our server was standoffish, late to come to the table, & the burger overpriced. I eat out a lot for my job in sales & there are better restaurants for the $. Save this place for cocktails & apps at the bar.
Yesterday’s experience was not a good one. My 5th visit in over 15 years (I live in Portugal). The restaurant is still pleasant, great decor and brought back good memories. However, appetizer was good, and main course (pizza) was charred and greasy. Glass of water was chipped. My waiter was obviously not having a great day. I honestly expected more and wish them better luck next time.
Overpriced and has declined in quality over time.
We arrived a few minutes early for our 5pm reservation (before a show at SF Jazz) and were told there would be no seating until exactly 5, even though many tables were empty. We accepted this graciously and went for a walk. When we returned at 5:02 we were seated at what must be the worst table in the house -- two people sit next to each other on a bench at the intersection of two busy traffic paths, facing a bread station. We got to watch some of the kitchen activity, including a guy sweeping the floor. Maybe some people like this? I don't.
My sea bass was significantly overcooked, dried out around the edges and tough. The accompanying red beans, however, were delicious. My date's yellowfin tuna was a pretty skinny portion and also a bit overcooked. Both the house green salad and the Little Gem salad were fresh but drowned in too much dressing. For dessert, the Gateau Victoire, which I remember enjoying in the past, was pretty dry and lacked flavor.
Our waiter didn't ask if we wanted cocktails. He didn't check back with us until we were 2/3 done with our entrees. He didn't ask if I liked the wine he recommended (I didn't), and he didn't appear to notice that I drank only a few sips.
Oh, and there was a 6% surcharge that you don't find out about until you get the bill. Yes, I know this is common but I find it sneaky.
Yes! Absolutely! It is a San Francisco classic and always delivers!!!
Definitely a place I would like to go back to on my next trip to San Francisco. Great food and ambience. Be sure and allow time for the preparation of the chicken.
We’ve been going to Zuni for 29 years but it had been a while. Spectacular! Upstairs in a private-ish nook with wonderful other diners, fantastic waitstaff, knowledgeable about the cocktails, wine list and menu. The gnocchi was the best we’ve ever had and the chicken is a constant there and not to be missed (it feeds more than 2 btw). The anchovy starter was excellent...if you dine with more than 2 people I suggest sharing as many dishes as possible so you get the full variety. 5 stars.
Maybe our 10th time for dinner...it’s been a few years, yet they remembered our favorite table! Yes, martini, clams and oysters, Sancerre and caesar salad, chicken and fries, all amazing, with great reception, bar, and table staff.
Food and service was good but I was not impressed with the variety of dinner options. This restaurant is definitely on the more expensive side which is fine. I understand this is San Francisco and this city is full of bleeding heart liberals but I don’t like how they throw their political beliefs down your throat at the very end with what it says on their receipt. It just left a sour taste in my mouth. I also understand a lot of restaurants do this but I don’t like how they add a 6% fee to pay for their employee benefits. With what they charge for their food, they should pay it themselves without passing it off on the customer. Or else, add 6% to everything on the menu and pay your employee benefits that way.
I had been meaning to go for years and we made it for our 3 year anniversary - it was perfect!
Was disappointed the gnocchi wasn’t offered on a Sunday but otherwise a fun experience
Amazing attention to detail and the chicken was amazing
Perfect as always
We have been coming to Zuni's for each others' Birthdays & Special occasions for the last 13 yrs. Consistently Great food & experience! Thank you
We frequent Zuni Cafe often. It may very well be our favorite SF dining-out choice. This was above and beyond our typically excellent experience with them. Always a pleasure.
it offered replacement level fine dining, i had very high expectations as this was on the most highly recommended restaurants by people i know and trust. i can’t say there is anything “wrong” but likely comes down to preference and that’s ok.
service was excellent, food was well prepared, but i can’t say i left a memorable tasting experience
I come here once per year because it really is a special occasion kind of place, otherwise I'd come here more often. All of the staff are amazing, caring, courteous, and helpful. They'll converse with you as much or as little as you want. And it says a lot that there's very little turnover among all levels of staff.
The food is amazing. The craft cocktails are good too (I had a Japanese Soda -- tasty and refreshing!). You're not rushed to finish your drinks nor your meals because they're not in a hurry to turn your table.
Only thing that could be better is to let people order the chicken bread salad ahead of time! Or even the moment they arrive. Patxi's pizza lets you order their deep dish pizza the moment you arrive so that the long wait for it isn't so long by the time you're seated and ready to order. I'm sure Zuni's has its reasons for not allowing this but please consider the suggestion!
Everything always perfect in the San Francisco institution
Wonderful experience. We were running late and called to give them notice, they told us to take our time as our table wouldn’t be given away. When we arrived and I apologized again for being late, the hostess assured me it was not an issue. Most restaurants make you feel so guilty when you are running late, it was such a wonderful surprise!
Amelia, our waitress, was wonderful! She was knowledgeable and kind. Make sure to get the Cesar salad and Fries! Atmosphere is a 10/10. Can’t beat the exposed brick and open French kitchen
Zuni is a classic restaurant and never disappoints. Excellent food and service also delighted my visiting foodie friend from Chicago.
A delicious meal and wonderful service. The chicken! Oh my god.
Gorgeous spot in SF. We enjoyed a delightfully flavourful heirloom tomato salad, shoestring fries and the showstopper roast chicken, which was so succulent and tasty. Service was lovely and very informative. The host was kind and organised a cab for us. Would definitely go back!
Overrated, terrible, thoughtless service. Never again.
Food was mediocre and the server was awful.....would not recommend this restaurant to anybody.
Seats are uncomfortable. It’s defiantly past it’s prime. Food was good/ok. nothing memorable. It’s a decent everyday restaurant.
Zuni always impresses. We had the burger and the salmon, with the shoestring potatoes on the side. All was very tasty!
Always delicious Zuni did not disappoint! The gnocchi was of the “melt-in-your mouth” variety. Service was impeccable. Just the best...now if they would just bring back breakfast with the wonderful scones!!
Food was great as always, and our waiter, Julianne, was amazing!
We loved our lunch at Zuni Cafe. It was really delicious!
Food was excellent and service good but restaurant was ridiculously warm even after 9 pm at night. It was an unusually warm day, but no amount of ice water could counteract the heat, which put a damper on the enjoyment of the meal.
As ususal, Zuni did not disappoint.
It was our 6th Wedding Anniversary and they were all so kind and celebrated with us.
Wonderful Champagne, incredible Zuni Chicken and a great welcoming atmosphere.
Our thanks to Rob and the rest of his professional team!
All the best, Robert L. Baker
Person at entry not pleasant. Waiter excellent.
Pizza dull. Salad sublime.
Never disappoints. Stellar flavors. Wonderful cocktails.
Great dinner for 1. It feels kinda touristy but overall great experience.
Service was top notch, friendly and engaging!
Even though I love the chicken, I was amazed that they actually charge me for the aïoli mayonnaise.
Let’s get real here, you pay almost $70 for a chicken and they have to charged me $1.50 for a little bit of aeoli mayonnaise?
In addition we had to order a second one because the waitress took the first one from the table when we are finished with our fries. It was only half consumed; you’d think they would mention at that point that there’s a charge.
It’s not the money, it’s the message that it sends.
I just think it’s not classy.
