We have missed Zuni, our favorite for a casual lunch or a special dinner. The food is consistently wonderful - oysters, the iconic, perfectly dressed caesar salad, the chicken of course, and yesterday’s superb paparadelle with duck sugo. The service is always attentive, but never intrusive, and the atmosphere like that of a French cafe or brasserie.
Everything was wonderful!
Reservations were hard to get but I was successful with acute vigilance. Food and service always good although it seemed like the reception and servers were new.
Took our time here - great place to come for special occasions. Drinks always exceeds expectations too!
Zuni always delivers. The chicken for two is an outstanding classic.
Delicious. Lovely experience at a San Francisco classic. So glad I made it there.
I was drawn to Zuni for my first post COVID meal - though the limited seating meant a longer wait (a week) than walking in, it was well worth the wait: Zuni is as it was before, albeit fewer fellow diners (and no upstairs) & a limited menu. However, the food’s superb, and the table service low key. Per my request, we sat in a corner window. Despite the 2 hour limit, this was never mentioned and we lingered over out panne cotta & espresso. The appetizers (olives, Acne bread) and main courses (risotto, pork chop) are so excellent it’s hard to believe something this good actually exists. Also, the polenta with mascarpone & bergamot iced tea .. each element was perfect.
Although I’ll always love Zuni, you can tell the service isn’t where it used to be. Their new automatic 25% charge to the bill is annoying especially because they now can’t attract front of house staff. I’m worried this will be going downhill fast.
Zuni was my lifeline during covid. I knew that if they cooked food for me, it was important that I have as close to the in restaurant experience as possible. Many restaurants tried to do this, but really only Zuni achieved it. The roasted chicken became the celebratory meal because it was prepared and delivered with the same care and love.
Getting to return, inside, yesterday was everything I wanted it to be. Nice service, amazing food….a real joy. I am glad they are thriving and support their working hard to treat guests and staff with the same level of respect and integrity. Good food is so much better when you know that every detail, great and small, matters.
I specifically booked an inside table. I waited until an inside table popped up on OpenTable (took awhile). When we get to the restaurant, we are seated outside and I'm told that if we want to wait for our inside table, it would be a "few hours". Super disappointed in this - not really into fine dining outside on market street. Food was great but service needs to be improved.
Zuni Cafe has always been a high treat. Unfortunately, with the pandemic and restricted diners, the lunch menu was seriously limited. I was disappointed in the limited and uncreative offerings. However, the desserts were excellent. I won't go back until they are fully open and have their fabulous menu again.
Our waiter was exceptional, as were all the staff! It’s not the restaurant’s fault that dining outside confronts the diner with Market Street traffic noise and the plight of the homeless. Zuni Cafe deserves its honored place in San Francisco restaurant history.
Dinner was wonderful last night, as always. The food was perfect and the service was warm and wonderful. I'm personally not quite ready for indoor dining, which is a shame since the indoors is part of Zuni's charm, but at least I got most of the experience. They had heaters for every table, though mine blew out a few times because of the wind, but the servers were quick to re-light them. Outdoor dining on Market Street is not ideal, but they've done the best they could within the constraints, and I had a great time - their takeout was always excellent, but going in person is SO much better. Every time I eat here, I think I should go back more often. I'm also thrilled that they're moving to a more equitable pay model.
I've been coming here since 1988 when I first lived in wine country. I moved in 1992 but whenever I'm back in the city I always return to this great restaurant.
Always have the freshest and best ingredients and always a great selection of wines by the glass. Looking forward to next time plus things will be normal (post-COVID).
Great restaurant great service, caesar salad and melon cucumber salad were well-executed.
Zuni is still a fantastic restaurant!!
Food wonderful, service ok. 25% “service charge” to supplement staff wages is ridiculous.
How splendid to be back inside Zuni! Such a treasured restaurant.
I had not been to the cafe for 20 years. I was a bit disappointed. I know Covid has hit every restaurant. The food was good but more expensive than I remember. The non alcoholic drinks were as expensive as the wine list. It was very cold and our heater kept malfunctioning. The wait staff did a great job. Just not sure we will return anytime soon. I’m sorry to see another iconic San Francisco restaurant go downhill.
Scored outside dining only, but I will take it. Any way to get a table at Zuni! Have been a fan forever!
I was celebrating my birthday and I had an awesome time. Service, was very good. Food was excellent we had osyters, Cesar Sallad and the Chicken the Lemon panacotta for dessert. It is our favorite now in SF.
My third visit in thirty years. Zuni just keeps getting better. Kudos to the reservations desk for accommodating the addition of one more person at the last minute .
Well prepared and tasty food. Very meager menu.
Zuni is always a great dining experience.
The chicken is delicious, a must have. The burger is a winner, also. Oyster menu was limited, but always excellent. The sole chardonnay by the glass was a perfect match. Outdoor dining on Market Street is a true San Francisco experience, but this isn’t Zuni’s fault. Service was spotty - it has been much better in the past. Easy to spend $300 for 2 at lunch.
This was our first opportunity to return in almost two years. The Caesar salad was fantastic and the roast chicken with bread salad and a side of fries was as good as ever. It was great to be back!
First time at Zuni’s for me. Highly recommend for super quality food and ambiance. Excellent service!
Zuni cafe has always been consistant and creative with "simple" dishes. Good ingredients and preparation. Service was commendable.
Pricey but high quality
Excellent dining experience
Outstanding service - we sat outside. Food and wine were good - but options are very limited, especially if you have dietary restrictions.
25% tip automatically included and poor service. Ridiculous!
Dinner outside after the Van Gogh exhibition. Service was fabulous and friendly. Food delish. Ambience would have been a 5 except that it was (thanks COVID) outside and cold. Space heaters were provided and did the job for the most part — one slightly melted Patagonia was a casualty for the evening.
Looking forward to warmer weather and or indoor dining.
We love Zuni! We went again last night and had an amazing meal. Even though we opted to eat outside, it was just as lovely as being inside! Service was excellent, as usual- but most importantly— food was consistently good! We had oysters, and a Caesar salad. Amazing! For entrees my husband had a pasta w clams. I had swordfish w butter beans and asparagus.
We enjoyed all with wine and cocktails!
Feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to visit Zuni! Always just perfect.
We went to Zuni following the Immersion Van Gogh exhibit. We loved the wine, olives, bread, shoe strings and of course the amazing chicken. There were 3 of us and we still each had a little chicken to take home. I meant to ask about the 20% surcharge and why it had not been enacted yet. It got so much press last week. We left 20% regardless. Thank you Zuni staff for a lovely and tasty lunch.
Good food and service. One of best outdoor options given the difficulty of being outdoors.
Took a friend out for our first outdoor dining since last march. Food was perfect. We loved the soup & salad. I had the halibut and loved the flavor. My friend had the burger and he thought it was one of the best burgers he has had. Services were great. Hope to come back soon.
It’s clear that Covid has attempted to take down this SF institution, but I’m so thrilled Zuni has persevered. Excellent food, perfect service...I love any opportunity to visit this restaurant. Here’s hoping the inside will be back open again soon!
Great food and wine! A well planned covid/sidewalk setup and overall a pleasant night.
We sat outdoors along Market street and honestly, it was nice to watch people out and about. It’s a nice reminder that life is beginning to return to normal. To add to the ambiance, Zuni had Rob playing accordion which is always a nice touch to dining. The service and the food were top notch just as they always are. It’s a relief to know that this classic SF restaurant has made it through the pandemic and continues on in an exceptional manner.
