Chef Han has served two Chinese Presidents and was the previous Executive Chef in the office of the Consulate General of China in San Francisco.

I made a reservation for 3 people. When we arrived the restaurant 15 minutes before our reservation time, they told us there is no record of our reservation. I showed them my email confirmation then they told us to wait. After a few minutes the waitress brought us to a big table with 3 other customers already sitting down. She told us that we had to share a table. I told her that we didn’t expect to share table with strangers. She told us that we didn’t have a choice besides they didn’t accept same day reservations even on Opentable website confirmed that our reservation was booked for the same day. We turned around and left.
I found the service of restaurant is unacceptable.
Chose Z and Y based on online reviews. Reserved a table for 4 on a weekday night. We ordered several dishes including on house specialty, exploding red pepper chicken. That was easily the worst dish of the evening. Huge bowl of red peppers with a very few pieces of battered chicken. Very little flavor to the dish, and certainly not spicy as we expected from the description. On the other hand, the lamb with green onions was superb. Hot, flavorful and tender slices of lamb. This dish disappeared immediately but was solely responsible for the overall 3-star review. Without that lamb dish, 2-star at best. Also good was the green beans, fresh and crisp. There was an interesting beef and pepper dish that tasted more Tex-Mex than Chinese. Good flavor. Got the tea-smoked duck because the Peking duck was out. Best I can say for this dish is 'meh'. Not much flavor, the duck tasted tired, as if it had been sitting around all day. Unremarkable. Overall a disappointment. We were expecting a memorable dinner. What we got failed to deliver, except for the lamb. As for value, with a few beers, the bill with tip was about $180. Too much for ho-hum food.
Best wonton I think we have ever had. Prompt friendly service. Great food. Really enjoyed it.

The food is tasteless in favor and not authentic enough. I have no idea how people give a thumb up to this restaurant. As a chinese who is fair enough to say, this restaurant is pretty bad

Looking for dumplings and some great dishes then look no further. Great food! Service was good and the ambiance could use some work but the food is worth the visit.
The restaurant was a great experience. Tucked into a small storefront it is a case of appearances are deceiving. Excellent food and helpful service make this a must visit restaurant in SF.
Family meal with in-laws from out of town. Everyone was impressed with the quality and flavor of the food, and then we got the bill - $160 for 8 people! An incredible value for a delicious and iconic SF experience.

One of my fav Szechuan cuisine restaurants in SF. We always order the MaPo tofu and it's a hit
Very well run system. They know they will be busy and are very expeditious and friendly with service and promptness. Food was good. Hot and Sour soup, Smokey Duck and Garlic Shrimp was my favorite.
Great service and interesting and tasty menu. Good crowd. An altogether satisfying meal.
When I'm in town, this is the first restaurant on my list. The food is amazing - fresh and hot. The tea is just as amazing. Can't wait to come back.
We love this restaurant overall, even though this wasn’t our best visit. That said, the service made up for the few errors and we are looking forward to going back.
Nice place not a great ambience but food AAA
It’s a very busy restaurant. The Shichuan food is good and tasty. We were 10 minutes late and the reservation was canceled. However the hostess managed to seated us in 10 minutes. The street parking is difficult to find. As a Michelin recommended restaurant, I will give 3.5 star out 5. The stairs to the restroom was terrible.

After reading a lot of hype about food I found it just ok/good, not great. Maybe we ordered wrong? Don’t get the Mongolian beef
Best Sichuan food west of Chengdu. Great staff, quick service, but no dessert? be prepared to wait unless you have a party of 5 or more in which case you can reserve ahead. Especially love the fish in boiling chili oil, mapo tofu (both vegetarian and not), and the dried green beans. Love this place. Fed 12 people on Saturday night for a birthday dinner: $426 including drinks!
Small but not overly crowded. Noise level was high but we didn’t have any problem holding a conversation. Food was good and plentiful.

Found this place through reviews. Walked in and wanted to walk out if not for my date who has a streak of adventure. The restaurant itself is in very desperate need of a top to bottom cleaning and/or remodel. Dirty carpet, torn seats, dusty and stained walls. Won’t even address stench of restrooms. But after all of this the food was great. This is what we came for and it made the mark in that department. Definitely get a reservation as the line was long for dinner.
Portions are smaller and smaller. Ingredients are not very fresh in the spicy dishes in particular. We didn’t order enough due to the small portions to start off, when we tried to order more, we were told by 2 different servers (at time of requesting menu again and at time of ordering) that any other orders are going to take a loooong time, 30 min minimum. We insisted and they didn’t take that long. They also try to take away your unfinished dishes every time they walk by your table. I understand you have people lined up, but shouldn’t you ensure that your customers are finishing their food first???
1) make a reservation, don’t be late, & all guests MUST be visually present inside the restaurant to be seated. Must friend was inside & stepped out to take a quick call & host was trying to skip us because she wasn’t there at time of seating... granted we were early too & waited... extremely crowded
2) the kung fu tea not available everyday so check schedule before you go
3) Food is family style, eat as its served, otherwise food extremely cold if you wait for all items to come out... our mistake 🤦🏼♀️
4) no waiting area, it gets crowded & feels like people hovering over you as you try to eat (dont sit at any table by door)
5) Had the garlic crispy crab, green beans, fried rice, & tan dan noodles... definitely recommend all

Great food, SO much better than most Chinese restaurants. No thick, starchy sauces loaded with salt and sugar, just real flavors of vegetables and meat/fish/poultry. Crowded and noisy, not for a romantic dinner. Good service, crowd handled efficiently.

A very famous Szechuan Style Chinese Restaurant, however, not as good as I expected. 名气太大了，但是整体来说没有想象中那么好吃。辣子鸡还可以，但是量不大，沸腾鱼没有什么味道。
It was our first time having dinner at Chinatown in SF. For me it was a great experience. Very traditional Chinese food, very tasty and the best Chinese food I have ever had - not that I am a specialist in it. Very well cooked, delicious and a great variety of Menu. The service was good, very friendly waitress. Just felt that it is the kind of restaurant that expect you to eat and leave quickly, so dont go with a different expectation. Finally, I definetly recomend it.
We enjoyed the food very much. It was well cooked and presented. Delicious. The only area we were less than impressed was their service. The server told us to "Hurry up and eat, we have a lot of people waiting" and this was before the food arrived at the table. While the food is worth the visit, hopefully other servers are better.
Popular restaurant in Chinatown that live from the past history, you can find better options with better service and food. Service is inaceptable.
Had Chef's suggestion: Chicken With Explosive Chili Pepper and Fish with Chilli oil. Both were disappointing as Chicken was 90% dried Chilli pepper with 6-7 pieces of fried chicken with no flavor. Fish was OK not Szechuan style in my opinion.
Mo-po Tofu/pork was good along with Broccoli Beef.
Maybe next time will try different dishes.

Had a great experience! We had the beef in chili oil which everyone seems to love. Not my favorite only because I don't care for the numbing tongue effect. Also had the orange chicken shrimp chow mien and sautéed pork. All were seasoned to perfection. We left with full bellies. Definitely would recommend to any visiting Chinatown.

Doesn’t really live up to the hype. The explosive chicken is predominantly chili peppers, and some fried chicken tossed in there. And not spicy. Even with Long wait times, they do turn tables quickly.
Well advised, food was very good but service was disappointing. Waiter and waitress were not at all pleasant which detracted from the dining experience of a good restaurant.
