Shrimp and Cod made into a Fluffy Dumpling, Served in Light Dashi Sauce
Great food, nice staff, great drinks (though cocktail options are somewhat limited).
Safety protocols were well followed. I reserved 2 seats in the bar, and we were sat apart from other groups. The food was without a doubt amazing! The servers were all very kind and friendly.
Yopparai of old has moved and changed their approach. Before it was more sedate and traditional Japanese Izakaya with emphasis on a wide variety of small dishes. Now it is a bit more youth-oriented with more American clientele. Fewer dishes but the quality is still very high.
I loved the space/atmosphere/food at the previous location. The new location has still fine food, but I felt the service quality gets lower than before.
Authentic Japanese fine Izakaya with attentive service. Individual Tatami seating fun.
Used to be a good place. Not good after covid reopen.
Excellent service- kind staff. Really enjoyed the food and would love to go back to try the sushi Omakase.
Pretty solid place, food is great, portions a little small but makes up in quality. Could have some cheaper sake's on the menu, everything seems >$100
Great food and great service in a nondescript sake bar. Excellent selection of sake and every dish we ordered was phenomenal!
Delicious food w beautiful presentation. Introduction to unfamiliar Japanese dishes w western influence. Courteous service. But bc of tight quarters there is a 2-2.5 hr time limit to your meal to fit in the next party.
used to be a much nicer low key high quality place. They seated us and when we did not order fast enough told us the time limit on our uncomfortable bar seats. when we wanted the check we had to hunt them down even though we got a stern warning we had to leave we could not pay. The food was OK but nothing special and it was crazy loud and the attitude made me feel stupid for paying a lot of $$ to sit in a tiny box full of loud people who had too much saki.
Great service, food, and ambiance. Unique experience.
The portions are very small and the service is a little pushy - you can’t really enjoy your meal and experience because waiters come all the time forcing to order meal, to bring dessert menu even when you didn’t finish eating yet... also about the food, I was expecting a lot more.
Yopparai is our go-to for birthdays, anniversaries, etc. The service is impeccable, the sake list is extensive, and the food is incredible. Go to Yopparai!
An amazing Japanese tasting menu with all the sake you can handle. Food was excellent, staff was friendly and helpful with explanations and suggestions. Counter seating was great, and gives you a chance to see the chefs put their impressive knife skills to work. Would definitely eat here again, and would recommend to anyone looking to splurge on a tasty tour of Japanese cuisine.
Loved our experience at Yopparai! The staff was incredibly friendly and food was fantastic.
A very special place. Food was so good, although a little expensive, and the service was fantastic.
Only decent Izakaya in the city
I love this place. Authentic Japanese feeling. Delicious small plates. I came here with my boyfriend for our six month anniversary. I’ve been here a few times now. Consistent. Comforting. Relaxed. I have everlasting memories of their grilled squid.
Absolutely delicious! The ebi (raw shrimp) special was one of the best dishes I’ve eaten this year. Can’t wait to go back.
Loved it. Loved it. Loved it. If Yopparai was a rock band it would be Radiohead. Definitely not Coldplay.
I was hoping for an authentic Japanese Izakaya and Yopparai did not disappoint me. Their sake is a little more expensive side but their food is very tasty and I really enjoyed the whole experience.
Excellent Japanese soul food.
Nice traditional atmosphere with very goo quality food
Very cute. Not good for groups. Great service. Lovely staff. Must get the oden and the tsukune. Super flavorful and tasty. Leave some room for shaved ice!
Yopparai is hands-down, one of the best izakayas in NYC. Always consistently excellent. I've had almost every single dish they offer and all of them were delicious and on-point. The staff is amazing as well!
Cozy restaurant with authentic Japanese izakaya food. The chicken meatball and other dishes are of much higher quality than typical izakaya. The sake selection is amazing. Service is impeccable. It's a little hidden which is also a great thing 'cause it feels like a special club. Must go!
Service was rushed. The table next to us experienced superior hospitality... Please work on that and be more “present” whenever possible.
Very special hidden place and service exceptional. Food was delicious!
Unique and wonderful
Excellent food and service. One of the few “real” Japanese restaurants in NYC.
wonderful nice service and incredible quality food! very authentic japanese! try the cod and the grill vegetable!
The food and service were top notch. Wide assortment of sakes, along with some of the best fried chicken I’ve ever had. Delicious sashimi, and the cooked dishes were outstanding. Highly recommend!
one of the best izakaya restaurants in NYC.
meat, fish, chicken, vegetables, noodle choices served in small plates, and a great selection of sake and beer
not a cheap meal but worthwhile
Food is superb. Cod is softly melting in mouth. Homemade tofu matches well with sauce. Chicken meatball is a little too salty. Washu beef could be more tender - takes longer than 2 mins to make it easy to chew. Service is a little lacking - no water refill - due to probably lack of staff. Although, appreciate the flexibility of letting us in well in advance of our booked time. Overall, a cute tasty restaurant with cozy ambiance.
Great food, service, everything! Will be back soon :)
Absolutely fantastic experience! Staff is well-informed and food is outstanding. Will be back!
Awesome food and service
Very authentic food and service
