Yama Sushi & Izakaya
Your accommodations will be met whether you're dining with a loved one or with the family or even just to get together with a few friends.
Our masterful sushi chefs use only the freshest and highest quality ingredients from fish to vegetables, along with the exceptional service you expect. Our menu changes seasonally, and has many varieties to please both fish lovers and vegetarians alike.
Our server didn’t know anything and told us to wait until she came back to unwrap the flaming jack roll.
She never came and I opened it. It was lukewarm. Gross. I had this before and we got to open it ourselves. Not sure what the rule here is. She also didn’t know what Saki to recommend.
The St. Jack roll is a must. Very sweet and attentive server...
Love this place. One of our favorite sushi restaurants in Portand.
Great ambience, even better food. This has become a favorite place for us after our other Japanese restaurant let us down. Highly recommend!
We had a large birthday party of 15 people and Yama Sushi accommodated us so beautifully. They let us know up from that we could only split the check 3 ways for debit cards. We were able to make decisions based off of that info and the rest of the evening went so smoothly, it was almost unbelievable how flawless the service was.
Their menu has a great range for all pallets and so incredibly delicious. Every piece of sushi was divine. The octopus was the surprise hit of the night! I would highly recommend Yama Sushi for your next birthday party!
Excellent restaurant. Glad it is in the neighborhood.
Have eaten here during dinner time and happy hour ending at 6. Wasn’t psyched that last visit, the host/owner sternly told a 5-year old and us that Happy Hour wasn’t available at 550pm. Had seen others ordering right up until 6pm on prior visit. With a sushi-loving kid, pricing is a bit more important than previously!
Really good options, I liked the drinks. Donica was amazing
Delicious rolls. Great sake. Beautiful interior. We will return!
My husband and I go here very often. It is always fantastic!
Yama is always great and location is perfect for a fun night out in Portland!
Great food and outstanding service
Friendly staff and wonderful food and drinks!
Great service, great food. Appreciate the attentiveness and kindness.
So delicious and so fresh! Great sushi but steep prices! Special occasion sushi. It was wonderful food, great and friendly service and we had a great time!
Yama Sushi & Izakaya was recommended to me for my mother's birthday, sushi was requested by her. Three of us went. We started with edamame and pickle plate. Good selection to the pickles (jalapeno is a "modern" touch which we declined), very nicely presented. The miso soup was excellent. One of us had bento box tempura, California roll, and teriyaki chicken. Very good, although chicken on the dry side. One had tonkatsu, very good, crisp, large portion (he couldn't finish). My mother had the Rock n Roll sushi plate. The rice for the sushi's and the bowls was very fresh. Presentation of the food was very good and eye appealing. Service was friendly and attentive. The ambiance fresh and clean, very calm. It has the best qualities of a good Japanese restaurant and excellent food.
One of our favorite sushi spots in Portland. Come here once every few months. Great quality fish. Great sushi selection. And customer service is top notch.
First time here, couldn't of been better. It was a very rainy day, so even though I came for the sushi, it was the Ramen that really hit the spot. That being said, the sushi was fresh and yummy...the sashimi sampler came with all our favorites. Am already looking for an excuse to come back again.
Our service was absolutely delightful allowing us to thoroughly enjoy a birthday celebration! The oysters were some of the best I've ever had. The bluefin tuna was also top notch! A great sake selection. They were out of several of the desert selections but the black sesame ice cream worked for us! Actually, the entire experience was world-class!
Excellent neighborhood joint for sushi and ramen! Service was efficient (not particularly friendly, but that’s an individual server thing...) Food was really good, though. Rolls were yummy and ramen was very good. Definitely worth a stop if you’re in the neighborhood.
Fabulous sushi. Did not like sitting upstairs as it removes one from the camaraderie of dining with others. The busser came to the table with a full bus tub of dirty dishes to collect one of ours. NO! NEVER! Detracted from the experience. Food always great.
Always a great experience at this restaurant. Inventive cuisine and fresh seafood. Oysters on the half-shell as well. Delicious.
The volcano roll was hands down the best thing we ordered. We even ordered another. The outdoor seating was nice and I appreciated being able to bring my dog. All of the rolls were top quality and the 55 sake was great too.
We enjoyed the food but service was terrible. We ordered appetizers and the waiter didn’t come back again for at least 45 minutes till long after we’d finished eating the apps. Dinner took a long time to arrive and one roll of sushi was missing. Waters were not refilled. Plates were never cleared. It was just very unfortunate since the food was great.
I went there for my birthday, and the food was amazing! I got the Yama Bento Box and the Yuzu sake wine. Both were amazing and perfectly complimented each other. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a date night, special occasion, or even just for a great lunch! 10/10, would recommend!
Excellent service and the food is way beyond excellent. Have not had a "roll" that was not YUMMY! The sushi and nigiri is fresh and served well ... always a great presentation! Can not say enough good things about YAMA ... repeat customers here and will continue to support them!
Son and mom dinner
Excellent, as always.
I had two very drastically different experiences with this restaurant. My boyfriend and i went there our first night and had an amazing food experience, the grilled octopus was plated nicely and garnished with a touch of perfection. The second night however the grilled octopus was charred and did not have the same dry rub it was so carefully done in the previous night. The plating was drastically different as well as it looks like the cook had just thrown it on the plate. We also didnt recieve the same sauce/garnishes we did the previous night. We ordered a tuna tower and the server took our utensils and began smashing the tower before we had a chance to appreciate it at all. She exclaimed it was the best part, but ive never had a tuna tower mashed down and sturred up to look like dog chow in front of me before. Im perplexed...
Our go to sushi restaurant. We come here at least once a month and have tried almost all the specialty rolls. Never disappoints!
Good but not great
Food was amazing the only issue was that our reservation did not show up on their guest list. They did however try to accommodate to fit us in but unfortunately the only available tables were outside. I didn’t make a fuss and took the alternative only because it was our 5th wedding anniversary.
Have been going to Yama for years and as always the food is amazing but the last two times it has taken over an hour for them to bring out any of the ordered sushi rolls.
It's a very pleasant spot. For the most part the food was very good. Perhaps the only disappointment was the uni which might have been a bit fresher. But it's very agreeable. We had the black cod which was excellent.
We love dining here, it's one of our favorite places.
We love the food and general vibe of the place. The rolls are amazing and hard to pick a favorite. If you like sushi, we would highly recommend Yama.
I love Yama Sushi. I used to live in SE Portland and it was a regular haunt. Now that I live outside the city, it's a special treat. Their Kobe beef roll is unbelievable. One of my favorite things on their menu. And I also really enjoy their house sake. Their food looks and tastes so clean. Fabulous place!
Nice mix of sushi and cooked food. My kids like this place, and they are picky. They order the miso soup, karaage, sushi rolls, and salmon teriyaki. I like the razor clams. Great ice cream across the street at 50 Licks for dessert. Lively crowd of families, 20-somethings, date nights. This is a great neighborhood izakaya. However, the ramen is not as good as at two Japanese chains that have spots in town (broth is decent, but noodles don't quite stand up).
