This was not the first time we dined here but it will be the last. We are always hopeful that they would change chefs or menus or something because we live nearby but we are always disappointed. To be fair, the dining room is usually very lovely. However they were doing ceiling repairs and most of the room was blocked off so we were seated in the back on folding tables and chairs. Because we were unhappy with many of their entrees in the past, we decided to order steaks. What could be safer? The steaks were cooked to order and very good. But the vegetables were cold, the sauces were cold and solidified, and the salads were wilted. Too pricey for terrible food.
Never again. Any other restaurant in Galena is better than this.
We have dined here several times before and always had very good experiences, this was not the case this evening. One of us ordered the salmon. It was described as being served with a number of vegetables including corn, asparagus, tomatoes and a specialty potato. The salmon we were served was on a bed of greasy corn. There was one very small piece of asparagus ( about an inch in length )and two very small pieces of tomato skin. No potatoes were on the plate. We asked about the potatoes and they were brought after we were all done eating what we’d been served. The salmon had a very fishy taste, consistent with fish that’s not fresh. We ordered the house specialty desert, Sinsinawa bread with ice cream. The portion we were served was over cooked and grease soaked with no ice cream. We asked for the ice cream. It took an unusually long time for the server to bring it. By then the dish, that is served warm, was cold. The server did not charge us for the ice cream. She did not mention or make any exception for the salmon dish that was missing over half of the items as described on the menu. It was a busy evening, and we just moved on. The experience was very disappointing. We emailed the food and beverage director about this unusually poor experience. We’ll see if he responds.
We have been here several times and have always enjoyed ourselves. The food is great and it's nice to see the same staff when we come back. It's easy to find what you are looking for from sit down dining to brunch to casual bar and even a pizza and coffee shop.
We had a group of 12 people, but only received service from on waiter who had a very hard time keeping up with our party. He even spilled a glass of red wine on 3 or 4 of our guests and only comped a handful of desserts that our party ordered. Very poor planning by the restaurant as we made our reservations several weeks in advance and it wasn't very busy at all.
The restaurant is in the Eagle Ridge Resort, which is beautiful. So the setting is impressive: lovely views of a lake, lots of flowers and landscaping on the grounds. The food was equally impressive. For a "fancy restaurant" the prices are reasonable and the food was excellent. I got the pheasant and my dining partner got the rack of lamb. Both were delicious, and came with a very nice salad (home-made dressing on the side) and a nice assortment of side vegetables that were arranged in a very creative and attractive manner. The staff was attentive and very friendly. We will definitely go back!
Our group of five friends, including one adult in a wheelchair, enjoyed Sunday brunch at the Woodlands in July, 2017. Our server was very attentive and pleasant. Wheelchair access to the dining room and restrooms was fine. The breakfast and lunch items offered for Sunday brunch were excellent with a wide variety of tasty choices, including the made-to-order omelettes. The lake view from our table was great. It was a very relaxing, nice dining occasion to cap off our weekend in the Galena IL area before driving home!
It's been about five years since we've done the Sunday brunch here, and unfortunately we were a little disappointed this time. The service wasn't great. We asked for water and waited about 15 minutes for it. One server told someone else to get us water, but she never did. The food selection was lacking and many of the food trays were either nearly empty or completely empty. The desserts were subpar. I remember having better experiences years ago. Would not go back again after this time.
I asked for a table with a view - and we were given a beautiful prime spot overlooking the lake and valley. With no additional prompting we were wished a happy anniversary. The vegetarian option was delicious - not just a regular meal without meat. Our waiter Jay was attentive but not intrusive and was completely up front with us about a brief delay on our drinks arriving - meaning we were not bothered because we knew the circumstances. It was a perfect meal and a wonderful occasion. Thank you to all who made that happen.
This Easter meal experience was disappointing to say the least. We had a 3:00 pm reservation and arrived 15 minutes early. We were told we could be seated early, but once seated we were told we could only have the brunch which ended at 3:00. We were not allowed to see the dinner menu, which was supposed to start at 3. The food was cold and did not taste fresh. Service was hurried and unprofessional. Wait staff and managers were heard arguing in the open near our table. Very unprofessional and really disappointing.
My wife has been sick recently so I thought it would be nice to ask in advance for a table near the windows overlooking the lake. I even confirmed this by phone days in advance. Instead we were seated in a booth by the staff station even though there were tables available near the windows. The food was good but nothing exceptional for an Easter brunch.
We went for our 10 year anniversary... the restaurant was not crowded and it was a Saturday night. The original waiter who came to our table to ask for our drink order never came back. They were doing a dinner buffet that night so my husband was so frustrated he just got the buffet so he wouldn't have to wait to put in his food order. A waitress ended up coming over by us finally to ask if our waiter ever came back and just took over the table. Service was EXTREMELY slow-- food was good but the service ruined it for us.
This restaurant has been exceptional for years. However, at our last two dining experiences there, it was close to awful. The protein was overcooked, the seafood was undercooked, and none of it was hot.
Puzzled as to why this restaurant has gone south so quickly.
We have only eaten here for Sunday brunch which to my knowledge is as good as it gets for this area. The food is excellent and at a fair price. Tthe view is exceptional if you get a window seat overlooking the lake. Good service but at times can get a little loud. Overall this is our favorite place for a Sunday Champagne Brunch.
I took my wife here for a early Valentines supper. Upon arrival we were greeted by a most friendly hostess, whom paid my wife a compliment that set a very good mood. From there our waitress and all the other staff that helped with our meal were very helpful and informative of all the restaurant had to offer. Our Meal was perfectly proportioned and cooked exactly as we asked. Great ambience associated with great food, we will definitely return in the future.
