** Wild Ginger - Downtown

The food at Wild Ginger spans the Pacific Rim from China to Indonesia. We pride ourselves on offering traditional dishes from these distinctive regions and insist on house-made ingredients. Chefs make spicy chili sambals, fresh coconut milk, delicate egg noodles, and our pungent oyster sauce all from scratch. To achieve the sublime flavors of the East, there is no substitute for the time-honored customs of these rich and ancient cultures.

This restaurant used to be a bustling and lively place. It seems a little down on its luck these days. There’s not enough light over each of the tables, our banquette seat had a big tear in it, and the place felt a bit cavernous and empty. Service is just fine and food is still delicious but the space is a bummer… Music coming from one tiny little speaker somewhere. Sad…

The satay appetizers are very good and have been consistently so for years. Noodles were freshly made and quite delicious. Overall very good. Spices are strong. Heat level is not selectable. Soups are really large enough to share but we were unable to get additional soup spoons and small bowls. Staff was otherwise very attentive.

Arrived on time and were immediately seated in main dining room. Server knelt at our table, inquired as to how "we" (in the royal sense) were doing, and what were "our" (in the royal sense) plans for the evening. She gave us menus, did not ask about our interest in a drink then disappeared for a full 25 minutes -- disappeared from us, that is. She was busy chatting up other folks, taking pics for them, bussing tables (while there were others whose primary duty was bussing and filling water), but for whatever reason, decided not to check in with us. We were going to have a cocktail prior to meal but we followed our instincts not to. When she finally reappeared at our table, she took our order. Our meals appeared within 10 minutes, but wine meant to accompany dinner did not for another 15. She was quite chatty about our plans and our past experiences at this restaurant but all this was increasing our tension because she was not especially adept at managing her time and her tables. We heard the table behind us complain of the same thing. Food is always good here, but the service was not on this night. Wish I could blame it on a talent shortage, but other tables were getting served quite efficiently and effectively. Could do with a little less obsequiousness and a bit more attention to the customers body (and verbal) language.

We were a party of three for an early dinner on a Saturday. The service was excellent! The waiter had excellent recommendations regarding the wine list and entrees. I don't eat meat or dairy, and there were options on the appetizer and entrée menu for me (and there were other dishes the waiter offered to make vegan if I wanted). The flavors were rich and layered with a savory blend of spices and sauces. Overall a good experience, would go again, and great location near large event centers like Benaroya Hall and 5th Ave Theater.

First time back tonight since 2008. This place used to be my fave, everything used to be delish. But tonight it was meh. Our dinner was mediocre. The staff tried hard and the food was cooked to perfection but the seasoning was forgettable.

Excellent dining experience. Only one problem, the waitress said the dessert menu had to be given verbally as certain items weren’t written down. Our guest was from Japan, with minimal English skills, and my hearing is not great, so I find this unacceptable. Offer a written dessert menu please.

The food was amazing. The service was poor. The wine we selected was not available and the sommelier tried to have us order a $180 dollar substitution. When we said no to that, he said he’s gladly help us fine a nice $100 bottle. He still hadn’t sorted out the wine when our food came to the table. The food was as wonderful as I remembered, but Amber, our waitress was hardly the sort one would expect to serve a $200 dinner for two. I would never sit in her section again. She needs a lesson on customer service.

Wild Ginger is our favorite restaurant, but I do have some criticisms: The sea bass was delicious but overpriced at $47.00 The lamb chops had way too much hoisin and peanuts on them. Entrees should come with a side for what the cost is.

I ordered the spicy margarita which came in a large water glass. I imagine being a higher-end restaurant, the cocktail would come in a more presentable fashion. I also ordered the duck for food. It was fairly average. I ate the whole dish, but it was somewhat disappointing and for how it was advertised. My window overlooked the street and it’s no fault of the restaurant, but half-clothed homeless people were surrounding the entrance and side of the building. Overall, it was an average experience.

We’ve eaten here for many years, since it was a tiny place in a different location . The potstickers were excellent, the flank steak chewy. $100+ for one beer, one glass of wine, one app and one entry….not worth it. Server was v good. The area on 4th avenue is a disaster (not the restaurant’s fault), blatant, horrific drug use. Very sad section of Seattle.

We rarely make it to downtown Seattle these days, but whenever we do, we make it to Wild Ginger for a meal and take a second meal home for lunch the next day. Yes, it is _that_ good. We have not had a meal yet that did not satisfy, and with our very picky eaters, everyone can find a meal they not just eat but enjoy.

We went here because Fifth Avenue theatre was offering a free appetizer with a ticket to that night's show. The food was overall good - the raw tuna dish was outstanding, and the spring rolls and sayur lodeh curry were pretty standard Thai faire. My boyfriend enjoyed his wine, and I ordered a wild ginger daquiri that the waiter recommended for me as a mocktail - it was a bit tart and likely needed the booze or perhaps an alcohol-free spirit to balance it out. Our waiter was incredibly friendly.
