The service was extremely slow. The menu was too limited, especially considering we had two guests who don’t eat shellfish or meat. But, even if they were open to anything, $4 per soggy Hama Hama oyster was too much. Sadly, I can’t even remember what else we ate.
We love Sea Creatures restaurants and Westward has a great set up (blended indoor/outdoor) during COVID, with covered deck seating, small fire pits burning real wood (it smells incredible) and of course Lake Union views- time yourself to include that as part of your visit! Reliably, Westward had a menu that was decisively curated and balanced, with bright, unique flavors. They make their own hot sauce and it is AMAZING with oysters (usually a purist that doesn’t even like lemon), highly recommend. We had oysters, 2 small dishes and 2 large dishes. Cocktail was delicious as well.
Great food, great service, good drinks!
Portions are modest but just enough.
The food and hand crafted drinks were amazing, as well as the service. Easily the best oysters we’ve ever eaten. Love the location by the water and the overall ambiance. Will dine again.
Great food, awesome new outdoor areas, way to go Westward!
Love being here. Such amazing food and views! Chef Mike is legendary.
Lovely spot but was disappointed that front of house prioritizes their fire pit tables for walk in guests, rather than guests that have booked ahead. My friend and I arrived and were given the option of a table essentially indoors or outdoors without a heater. The hostess told us the open table with a fire pit was reserved for walk-ins so we were offered a table without heating. Halfway through our meal, we saw other walk-ins seated at a fire pit. Doesn’t seem fair to those who planned ahead. Regardless, our server was very good and the cocktails were delicious.
The food was amaaaaazing! I got the black cod and my husband the spareribs, along with bread and fingerling potatoes. Service was quick and efficient but not rushed. I guess my only tiny complaint was i wished they had a heater for when you’re waiting outside for a table. We froze waiting the 10 minutes or so (for the record we were a smidge early), and obviously due to Covid restrictions we had no choice but to wait out in the wind and cold. It would be nice if they had a heater there in addition to the table heaters.
I really can’t wait to go back when all this is over so I can enjoy the fabulous food and the view not seen through a clear plastic wall 😆
Always a great experience. Great staff. Food is top-notch. Great atmosphere.
With a toddler in tow during these crazy times, it’s a rare occasion that my husband and I get out as just the two of us. On top of that, I’m trying to sort out some health issues and am currently on a very strict elimination protocol in which I can’t even have a spice as basic as pepper. We had an opportunity to have a sitter and escape for a date night, so we took it! I called Westward ahead of time to see if they could accommodate my needs and they said “Come on in! We’ll take care of you!” Our dining experience was wonderful and even though I personally felt like I was “that high maintenance customer” the staff made me feel comfortable and like it was no trouble at all. I enjoyed the oysters du jour and the chef prepared a beautiful piece of black cod and root vegetables that were both absolutely delicious. My husband enjoyed cocktails and gorgeous dishes (as intended) and was very satisfied! What a treat the whole experience was. We will absolutely return to Westward! (hopefully I will have less restrictions then!)
A special thank you to Katie and the Chef :)
Great place for outdoor dining in the middle of the pandemic. Beautiful views of Seattle.
Some of the best and most original food in the Seattle area - and an excellent choice of great wines and cocktails as well. Just bring a blanket or wear warm cloths as all seating is outside and the space heaters cannot cope on colder evenings.
We were celebrating the purchase of our new boat. Westward did a nice job of Malory lunch feel special.
Great experience. The duck is amazing! thank you for all the safety precautions and great service!
Westward is one of the few places I will eat during COVID. Their precautious are more than fair and of the highest standards. I appreciate that they are working to ensure their employees feel safe serving and appreciate the precautions they asked us to take to ensure their staff's safety
We loved our experience at Westward! We started out with drinks and a light chip & dip situation out by the fire. They've revamped their outdoor area quite a bit with 3 groupings around solo stoves and Adirondack chairs. We then had a fantastic meal in the tented area which is heated pretty well (and protected from the wind). Overall the energy was great and we felt a glimmer of normalcy. We will definitely be back soon.
The hostess was not the best communicator and made us feel awkward and uncomfortable but the server, Victoria, was so outstanding that she made up for the weirdness at the beginning. The food was great, the fire pit was fun and a nice way to be socially distanced during this time. Loved the black cod and fingerling potatoes.
We were there for our anniversary dinner. The whole vibe didn’t feel right, the hostess was so cold and wasn’t friendly at all. Pumped a whole lot of hand sanitizer on my hand without asking if I wanted any.
The serving staff were just all seemed extremely nervous to be be working as if we were all lepers.
The music was far too loud. We had two starters, clam dip with chips and oyster shot, both were not great, for the mains we had crispy duck and ribs, they came with nothing else, the server should’ve told us how the restaurant works, we would have ordered side dishes if we knew the mains were just meat and nothing else.
It was just the worst experience we had in a restaurant from beginning to end and as a whole.
Running a restaurant is still about hospitality. I think it’s time for Westward to reflect on their mission. What are you guys about? What are you providing to customers? Why should customers dine at your restaurant?
The food here is so special! Every bite is a burst of flavor! It’s warmer than most outdoor seating while still feeling safe.
It would have been wonderful except for the smoke smell from the wood burning. That really ruined our experience. Hope to try again in the summer time.
Such a beautiful spot. Water, fire pits, view of the city lights. However, the food was flavorless and way over priced. We had to ask for salt.
We just went during covid and the only real complaint was the they had fire pits going the whole time that were SO smokey. We all left smelling like smoke and it was unpleasant throughout our stay.
The food, as always, delicious! The marinated mussels were so good.. the best thing I’ve eaten in a long time. Black cod was perfectly prepared. Service was fine but pokey since they wanted us out in 90 minutes. My only real complaint is the smoke aroma in air from burning outside of the tent. It was a bit much.
We went early thinking it would be safer, less people. A group with 2 very small children, who kept screaming, made it uncomfortable even though we were at lest 15-20 feet away. Never once did they tell the kids to use inside voices.
Otherwise,it’s a beautiful space.
Phenomenal unique food. Amazing service. Great location. Good special occasion spot. Felt super safe, and open.
They have a great space and have set up beautiful tables outside under the tents. However, despite the open air and being outside they had the strictest mask settings of any restaurant I've been to. We had to wear them until the food came and had to put them back on every time a server came by which meant we were constantly taking them on and off and it was pretty awkward.
I’m a local and have been to Westward multiple times. The food, the ambiance, the service but more importantly, the social distancing culture that westward’s employees demonstrated was impressive.
We will definitely go back and go back more often.
Waitress forgot to take the order of one person at our table. One of the main courses was sold out and all of the bread was sold out. Definitely not worth the price for the service we received. Great wine and ribs.
Great location on the water. Good food, nice drinks. Friendly staff; quick, efficient, and clean during the pandemic
Would not go back
Great food and seasoning on the food. Great view. A little too pricey for what you eat, But you’re also paying for the great view.
Great option for covid safe dining. Heaters were sufficient for being outdoors on a cold day and not freezing (with coats on). They take the precautions very seriously and you still get to enjoy the view and great food that’s always wonderful at Westward.
Ambience, view and service were amazing. Nothing beats sitting by the dock with city skyline. Definitely top date spot. Cocktails were spot on! Kudos to the mixologist.
Food were also great although the portion is very disappointing. Everything were small and it was like watching a solo performance that clearly needed supporting actors. My husband ordered the ribs, while it was good, portion was small and it was just ribs, no veggies or anything else. I had the baked cod en papillote which was also good, but again it was just fish and nothing else.
Sure they had sides, basically veggies that cost $8 to $15 or more. I feel a bit cheated if I need to order $8 smashed fingerling potatoes just to round up the main course to be more substantial. Why not add the potatoes in the dish and round the main course price up instead of doing something like this?
We've been on a dine out adventure this past couple of weeks and we've dined at places like Westward that offers more substantial amount of main course with the same price and ambience. On that note, we will still come back for the view and ambience but we will be sure next time we come with partially full stomachs.
Always have a wonderful time at Westward! Food is delicious and was really impressed with their safety protocols. A+
Westward is an iconic Seattle spot situated on north lake union with views of the city. The food is high quality, and high priced! The oysters and ceviche scallops were fantastic; the potato chips & dill dip was bland/ lacking.
Great spot - they have done an amazing job with their outdoor dining - heaters above the table. Generous portions, good food, wait staff was amazing.
Great service, beautiful outdoor seating with water view. They have a tent roof completely covering some tables, and a big warm fire pit, so can enjoy even in rain.
Celebrating a Birthday. Fantastic view and attentive service.
Oysters were delicious! Even though it was chilly, the heaters kept us quite warm. Definitely recommend the clam dip. Homemade chips were a great pairing. Highly recommend the chickpea dish if it is still available as well.
We had a very lovely evening with drinks and snacks outside around the fire. It felt like as safe as a dining out experience can be.
