West Park Bistro
Service could have been better. They forgot our main course and we had to remind them after 45 mins
We waited a bit for our table even though we had a reservation. It was Valentine’s Day, though, and they were very busy. We sat at the bar and waited while we looked over the menu. We were a little surprised to see a limited prix fix menu for the night at $70/pp. We didn’t know about it when we booked. It included an appetizer, main course and dessert. The food was good, so it wasn’t a problem, but it would have been nice to know beforehand. Good service, a little slow but they were very busy. Overall a good experience
Despite having made a valentines reservation about 2 weeks ahead when we arrived on time there was no record of our reservation at the restaurant. I showed the hostess my reservation confirmation and she acknowledged it and said the reservation did not make it to their system but they would try to seat us in 20 minutes. It was already 8pm on a work night so we went across the street to another restaurant that was able to seat us. Needless to say this wasn’t the experience I planned for a special night out with my husband.
They should have advertised that they only have fixed menu for Valentine’s day. Service was super slow. They also ran out of dessert we wanted.
The food was fabulous! Appetizers, dinner, and dessert were all amazing. The service was incredibly slow, however. Granted, it was Valentine’s Day, but, if they are going to charge such a premium for that day, it would be great if they could maintain a higher quality of service. We waited 30 minutes after they cleared the appetizers for the main dish.
We came for Valentine’s Day and were pleasantly surprised at how organized they were for a packed house..
Food was great, so was service!
Coming back soon..
Food wasn’t great. Seafood was over cooked and didn’t have a ton of flavor
We usually dine at Town but decided to try something new. Enjoyed dining as the food was wonderful, and the restaurant was much quieter than Town. We didn't have to raise our voices to have a conversation. We will definitely be back!
We had a nice time at brunch. They refilled our mimosas on time and well. The brunch food could have been a bit better- more salt in mushroom omelette and less Smokey salmon in the Benedict. But all fixable. Didn’t have crab cakes which is what we were looking for. Very warm soft bread with herb butter. Overall nice time and probably could come back. We were served by over 5 people.
As usual everything was very good. This place is consistent so it has become our 'go to' dinner spot when we dine out alone or with friends.
All the pasta dishes are fantastic and so are the salads and most appetizers. Great burger and steaks/chops. We have tried pretty much everything on the menu since they've opened and we are never disappointed. This time we tried the crab cake appetizer (again) which I did not like (again). They deep fry instead of pan fry which I don't like. The crab meat was a little mushy (no lumps of crab meat.) The salsa that accompanied them was too heavy on the onion which took away from the delicate flavors of crab and mango. Other than that everything was wonderful.
The food and drinks were good but the service was terrible. Would not recommend and definitely not going back.
The table was not set for 6 people as requested through the reservation. They we're extremely slow and unattentive throughout the entire meal. We almost had to stand up 3 times during the meal to request more water, wine, and bread. They are lucky the food is decent because the service was not. We went there to celebrate a birthday and it was definitely not the experience we were hoping for.
Food was good, service was poor which included missing an entree which finally came after almost everyone else was done eating.
The restaurant was not very crowded, but the services was painfully slow. Very nice staff, but slow to the point of being a big disappointment. Gnocchi was very good, bun on the burger was not a good match for the delicious patty, desserts were delicious, salmon was good but the artichokes were not trimmed properly.
West Park Bistro is a wonderful restaurant in the heart of San Carlos. The ambiance is lovely, the staff friendly and efficient, and the food and drinks are excellent. If you want a nice place to take out of town company, this is the place. It's also great for a casual lunch or dinner with friends.
Love the consistently great food here! They do a wonderful job with the octopus, and we tried the gnocci this time around. Absolutely spectacular! Already looking forward to going back. :)
Third time or so.. Second time my party of two has unfortunately been sat next to a table of 8 or 10.. This is the worst, plus the room was full. I asked the young hostess if we could sit further away or in the front room. She replied they were completely booked ..at 5:30pm.At 8 pm when we left after practically yelling for 2.5 hours(service a tad slow) there were other tables in the back and at least three two tops still in the front.
The pork chop was excellent.. sides not so much . Would love if they would change those out to be a 10...service started off pretty good.. then he was just overwhelmed with tables.
Will try again on not so busy a night or season. I know its big party season. I need to stay away from restaurants that cater to that. I think if you're in a party of four or more, or are 'energetic',(aka loud) this is the place for you!
I won’t eat at this place again. The Food was good, but not up to the standard you would expect for the prices they charge. My main reason for not returning is the very unprofessional and sexist service. This unprofessional behavior escalated as the meal went on. We were two women who ordered wine by the glass, starters and entrees. The list of poor service includes: 1) The most disturbing was while we were in the middle of eating our entrees and with more than half our meal on our plate, we were asked if they could box up our meal. The meaning was not subtle, "hurry up and leave, we have people at the bar that want your table." The two men dining at the next table weren’t asked this question. When we let the waiter box up our meal, we were never asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu. Their obvious rude behavior made us so uncomfortable we left and went somewhere else for dessert. 2) While dining my guest was asked if she wanted another glass of wine. She said yes and ordered another. Within 30 seconds a second staff member asked her the same question. We informed this person that we had already ordered one. 30 seconds later a third staff member asked the same question. All these unnecessary interruptions made it difficult to have a flowing conversation. 3. When making my reservation online I asked for a quite table for a business dinner. Upon arriving we were seated at a table near the bar and it wasn't until I asked about my reservation request that I was told they had a private party and only had this table for us. (Character limitations prevent further listing) I have eaten at restaurants around the world, some with Michelin stars, some holes-in-the-wall, and have never received such unprofessional and obvious sexist treatment. This was an embarrassing situation for me to have my guest subjected to. I will never return, not even with a male dinner companion.
Celebrated a friend’s birthday. When check arrived- desert was on the house. Great food- great service!
They have the best lamb chops and Gorgonzola mashed potatoes!
Great attentive service and the food was great as well
We had a most enjoyable dinner for four. All of the meals were excellent! Meatballs and spaghetti, butternut squash gnocchi and raviolis (cannot remember the type). Desserts (bread pudding and apple cobbler/waffle topper were delicious. Nice wine by the glass selection. Great service. Out of the restaurants control were two loud groups near our table.
Really loved the pear and goat cheese ravioli and the tenderloin and horseradish potato. The meat on the tenderloin was perfect and the ravioli had so much going on it was really an experience. The Wagyu meatballs on the speghetti and meatballs seemed like a waste of what should be good beef, but that would be the only down note to what was a magnificent dinner.
Service was awkward and food was mediocre. Weren’t offered refills on drinks. After telling our waiter we didn’t want dessert, we waited 15-20 minutes for the check. Will not return.
We went for an anniversary lunch and split a delicious salad with grilled prawns, split crab cakes which were perfect, and one of the best gnocci’s we have ever tasted. They were butternut squash and had a fabulous cream sauce, finished with chocolate bombe and Turkish coffee. Can’t wait to go back and try
some of the other specialties!
Nothing further needs to be said than:
One of the finest restaurants on the Peninsula....easily in the Top Three.
This is a nice downtown restaurant for lunch or dinner. The dining tables are not positioned too closely together; the tables have tablecloths -- a nice touch. Lighting in the evening is soft and if you get there early enough you can have a conversation with others at the table without having to raise your voice to be heard. The service has always been attentive without being over-the-top. The food is well-seasoned without being too salty. I think the prices are a little on the high side, but maybe I'm out of touch. Nonetheless, I recommend it.
We frequent this restaurant as the food and service are very good.
Dinner was amazingly delicious. The portion was perfect and had a lot of flavor. The staff and waiters were extremely nice! I felt very comfortable and didn't feel rushed. The ambiance and decor is beautiful! I really loved the ceiling light and wall fireplace layout! There is a wine room that looked gorgeous but takes a different type of reservation to sit in it. Overall a gorgeous place with perfect staff and food! Thank you!! Oh yes excellent wine selection ;)
Celebrated my grandmother’s 88th birthday and they were attentive to our family. The service is impeccable and the staff are genuinely nice. Food was fantastic, cooked to order. Try the pistachio crusted goat cheese!
This is quickly becoming one of our new favorites. We had a special dinner with good friend tonight and the restaurant made it very nice. Excellent food, great service and convenient location.
Love the food and outdoor seating! The specialty cocktails need some work but everything else is excellent.
Always have the best experience at West Park. Their menu caters to all palates, whether you’re a large party or sharing appetizers. Brunch was exquisite and we were able to sit outside and enjoy the buzz of Laurel Street.
We started outside, but the Sunday morning music was a problem for my wife. We moved inside and it was much better.
The food and service was outstanding. Also the Leon drop cocktail was scrumptious !
Tables in the dining room are much more quiet than the one out front, near the bar.
Our waiter was courteous, professional and knowledgeable about the food on the menu. We enjoyed the Grilled Octopus the most, tender and creative.
Amazing food and service. Overall very great experience. Lots of choices, even gluten free. We love their cocktails/wine menu too
I wanted to love it but the service was slow/forgetful and more importantly, the menu just feels super dated -- why is there truffle oil on everything? The spaghetti was pretty good, but the steak my husband ordered was not high quality and unfortunately was covered in a berry butter? Also the potatoes were drenched in a blue cheese. Would love to see more attentive service and more fresh/local options, especially since it isn't cheap.
Food & service was UNBELIEVABLE! Hidden gem!
Great wine list, mixed service and food quality.
