All three floors of the restaurant have been designed keeping historical accuracy in mind making Wayfare Tavern reminiscent of a Victorian parlor and an Edwardian men's club, where anything goes from black-tie to blue jeans. Pull up a stool to the Chef's Counter at the open kitchen and look on as Chef prepares your lunch or head to the Library and Billiard Room for a game of pool. Wayfare Tavern is a truly unparalleled dining experience translated from a century ago. Photo: John Lee.

Brian is the best, he made our experience very pleasant!
Super good beef tartare. A little cold as the night when on. More heaters would have been great but overall great as usual.
In these Coronavirus times, I just long for some comfort and that's just what Wayfare provides. Went for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and sat outside in the alley which was quite comfortable. Had the Fried Chicken and Mac-n-Cheese with some Corn Soup to start. All was fantastic - you must know by now that they've perfected the fried chicken and the mac-n-cheese - it was exactly what we were longing for. Thanks Wayfare!
It was wonderful as usual, a little cold , but I should have known to wear a jacket. The steak tartare was great, and I also had the pasta dish , both amazing. My guest said the hamburger was great and the fries. It was a really fun meal, and different sitting outside and the streets being empty. A rare experience in downtown San Francisco.
We had the most delicious meal, and the service was excellent. The outside seating was in a quiet, blocked-off area beside the restaurant, though there were a few tables along the sidewalk.
Great service. Great people. And more importantly, great food! Recommend for everyday dining or a date.
It’s way too cold. Not enough heaters and the dining experience was fair. Better to order takeout
Glad to see Wayfare Tavern open during Covid. Always a treat.. PS the fried chicken is the best!!
The only reason I gave the three-star rating on ambiance is not their fault. Due to COVID, they are serving out on the street. The interior when I visited the restroom was lovely and inviting with an old school charm. I will definitely go back to experience that when this madness is over. The staff was amazing and attentive. I had the fried chicken and it was wonderful. The mussels were fabulous and different from most other preparations which were a nice change. The ribs were fall off the bone tender. This is obviously a favorite hang out for businessmen in the area after work relaxing and gathering. I highly recommend this place- and the steak tartar!
It was outdoor seating on a side street during “corona” times, but Wayfare made it quite charming.
The staff were friendly. The food was delish!
Best fried chicken EVER!
Broccolini was out of this world!
Whipped potatoes was excellent!
Didn’t have to touch the menu and the bill. All was done electronically.
All necessary precautions taken by Wayfare to make staff and customers safe. Kudos to Wayfare Tavern!
I've always loved Wayfare Tavern and was glad they were able to get outdoor dining areas in time for my birthday! Great food.
Great spot. Always good food with choices from basic to fancy.
Outdoor seating can be pretty windy. Not the restaurants fault of course.
Reliable place for great food and well made cocktails.
With COVID appreciate the option of outdoor seats.
Las sillas de exterior incomodisimas, hacia mucho frío y se pagaban los calentadores y las personas no estaban al
Pendiente. Tardaron muchísimo entre el plato principal y las entradas. El pollo frito tiene más nombre que sabor.
The house made doughnuts are delicious
Great food. Outdoor seating.
A bit windy in the side street, but it is SF.
Meh... I realize there's a pandemic going on and we are grateful to have the opportunity to eat at your establishment. Our wait person (female) was not really 'present'- not cordial, all business. And that kind of set us off for starters. And the cold. windy alleyway ,while so fortunate for you all, was kind of dark.
Food was ok. Popovers were outstanding as always. good luck to you guys! I wouldn't recommend until you have inside seating available.
Great experience for me and my honey
very innovative modern cooking; great deviled eggs; fantastic pork chop; the donuts for dessert were wonderful, but you will need to ask for chocolate dipping sauce :-)
Outstanding service and the food was amazing as always. Thank you!!
Yay! Celebrating getting out of the house! The food and service are always exceptional. We got there early and there was only one couple sitting at a table. I only wish the tables were spread out a bit more. Being summer in the city, it would be a good idea to put a heater between the tables to create a nice warm space with distance and separation. Overall, worth every penny.
A different experience than previous due to covid restrictions. They had approx 20 tables and only one server. Who was not great in the first place. Very limited choices and overpriced for the overall experience. I’ve been here a couple times before and this was not a good experience sadly as it was my daughters birthday.
Incredible as always. Thank you!
Team was great! Handle the covid measures while putting out a great meal!
We sat in the alley which was set up, but not swept so there was trash all on the floor around us. Our waitress was nowhere to be found and did not check even after our food was delivered. I understand the social distancing but you still should check on your tables.
The food here was awesome and delicious, but we did have to wait approximately 15-20 minutes to get greeted by our server. Though it was only outdoor seating, our server had 1-2 tables and she did not approach us at all. Later on, I saw one guy look through the window and immediately after, he greeted us and asked if we were helped yet (bartender). He then proceeded to take me ur order, serve us our food and check up on us. The only time our server came to us was to bus our table and hand us our check. We tip very well since we’re both servers so we know the difference between good service and bad service. We did not leave a tip for her but we did hand 20% to the bartender that Helped us out. Overall, we were very pleased by the taste of the food and will definitely be coming back. Thank you!
Thanks, it was our first time dining out and it was perfect!
We sat outside socially distanced and it was just delightful!!
I frequent this place often for lunch and it’s always amazing! Delicious food and impeccable service!!! Thank you, Wayfare Tavern! 😋
Great Setup in the alley right next to their restaurant. Very roomy and spaced out nicely.
I love Wayfare Tavern and I know it's tough right now with COVID-19. The food was great. Sitting outside is chilly, so be prepared. The reason I don't have 5 stars is due to service. We saw tables all around us getting served who arrived after us - bread, drinks, their food. For some reason we were out of the rotation. Other than that, it was delicious as always.
It’s was so amazing to have the option for a Father’s Day dinner in the alley. That sounds funny but with Covid being on everyone’s minds, it was refreshing to have a gourmet dinner served with elegance & excellence! Thanks again Wayfare!
It was a good experience working under the "new normal" of Covid-19. The staff did a good job given the circumstances and food was great.
Fathers Day - outstanding brunch!
this was our first time out since the lockdown. We were just happy to go to a restaurant again. We enjoyed the setting in the alley with the Transamerica pyramid in the background. The food was good, just had the burger - it was good but over cooked and the fried chicken - it was tasty. The cocktail for 4 was a great deal. $34 for a "flask" which gave us 3 drinks each.
Excellent experience, especially considering the situation we are in. Food was delicious as always.
With SF reopening to outdoor dining, the Tavern is making the most of the adjoining outdoor space.
The service was top notch, as was the food. I’m excited for when they can reopen indoor dining, and would make a trip to SF just for that.
