Chef Tyler Florence brings his passion for high quality and style to San Francisco with his new flagship restaurant, Wayfare Tavern. A classic San Francisco Tavern featuring authentic American dishes inspired by local cuisine at the turn of the 20th century, the menu ranges from classic comforts to rustic delicacies. The beverage menu features locally-sourced wines including a selection of Florence's own label, quality draft beers and organic root beer as well as classic Victorian-era cocktails.

All three floors of the restaurant have been designed keeping historical accuracy in mind making Wayfare Tavern reminiscent of a Victorian parlor and an Edwardian men's club, where anything goes from black-tie to blue jeans. Pull up a stool to the Chef's Counter at the open kitchen and look on as Chef prepares your lunch or head to the Library and Billiard Room for a game of pool. Within our second floor dining room, we have a Billiard Room available for parties up to 16. The room has double pained glass doors and features an antique tin ceiling, vintage red felt pool table. To make ordering easy, the room has a red "hot" phone which direct dials to ordering food and cocktails. Reservations are suggested and the room is available upon availability.

Our waiter was one of the best waiters we've ever had. Service was excellent. The restaurant setting was unique in that it has 4 floors and all different. There's something for every palette on the menu. It's American style food which is rich and heavy with several traditional dishes. The noise level was acceptable. They have several separate dining rooms for large groups.

I liked the food but my Petrale Sole was n oily and tasteless. Also the waiter was not attentive at all. He also lied about the where our Oysters came from. We wanted Big ones from the East Coast and he insisted that the Small ones were from the East Coast. It was really annoying. We weren't going to argue about it, but it was not professional. I would recommend this place but the service needs improvement.

Underwhelming and disappointing meal. I expected better from a Michael Bauer top 100 restaurant. Restaurant does have great atmosphere and service. The meal started well with the popovers and salad and went down from there. The signature fried chicken was very ordinary-not crispy or especially flavorful. Have had much better elsewhere. Steak, for $42, was also very ordinary and not a great cut. Meal for 2 with a cocktail, 2 glasses of wine, no desert and tip came to $200. Had a much better meal for lunch that day for $66 with a cocktail, draft beer, desert and tip.

The waitress had difficulty putting thru the OpenTable $25 rewards cert. She actually had to hurry after us before we got out the door to let us know she couldn't process. (The balance was paid in cash.) We had to wait in order for her to get the restaurant manager to handle. Fortunately, he was able to process. This spoiled an otherwise nice first visit to Wayfare.

Most of the food was a bit over cooked. The calamari was rubbery and the pork and fried chicken were a little dry. Nice place though, cheesecake was great.

This was a disappointing and chaotic experience. First it took a while to get our servers attention. Once we placed our order which included two cocktails, we waited for a our drinks to come. Our appetizer arrived and still no cocktails. We were halfway finished with our appetizers when our cocktails arrived. I ordered the fish and chips sandwich. I took one bite of the sandwich and all the fish fell out of the sandwich and landed on my lap then on the floor. The servers came immediately and offered to replace the sandwich and get club soda to clean my shirt. The club soda never came. The new sandwich arrived promptly and it was delicious. My wife had the fried chicken and decided to take half of it home. We got the bill and they charged me for two fish sandwiches plus my wife’s meal. I said to the server that I didn’t know I was going to be charge for a second sandwich. He removed the second sandwich. We paid the bill and got our to go bag. When we got home we opened the to go bag and we got someone else’s lunch.

Consistently delicious. The only issue is with a party of 7, we were jammed into a booth. We made it work as it was an affable group but it was not very conducive for a business meeting.

Positives: Great Ambiance and Drinks, Nice waiter and Bartender, Great food options for meat eaters (the fried chicken was a hit!). Moderate noise but great for a group or happy hour.

Cons: Hostess was disorganized and there was a significant wait for our reserved table (my advice would be to pester her sooner than I did so you don't get forgotten!), very limited options for vegetarians/vegans ( I called about this and there were not options presented- "it is what it is" was pretty much the response I got...) . Probably not a great option if this is you or your friends. Can be loud for a date or quiet dinner- would not recommend this earlier in the evening.

Beautiful restaurant. We had a reservation for 8:15 on a Sat night. We got there early to look for parking (there’s no valet) and found a spot right away. We checked in early got a table at 7:30. That was nice because both bars—upstairs and down were both packed. The cocktails...the first round was tasty; the second was way too strong. The bone marrow and the braised short ribs were amazing. The servings were bigger than we expected, so we didn’t save room for dessert unfortunately. The two of us ordered an appetizer, two entrees, and a side, and we couldn’t finish. We asked to take home the leftovers, and they gave us a claim ticket, and we picked up the bag st the hostess station on the way out. Cute system for leftovers. It was like a coat check but for food. The vibe was lively and fun. The service was great. The food was creative and delicious, and we had a great experience.

Atmosphere was great, and service was overall pretty good. Food was slightly above average, but nothing spectacular. It was a nice evening, but I was expecting a little more from the food offering. We had the fried chicken for a main, which was good, but nothing particularly special.
