My birthday dinner last night was one of the worst restaurant dinners I’ve had in my many years of dining out. We arrived a few minutes early so we decided to have a drink. Unfortunately the bar area was so crowded we ended up standing near the door. After we were seated and ordered, we started eating our starters. We weren’t even halfway thru this first course when the waiter wanted to move us to another location. We said no. A few minutes later another server started setting up the silverware for the entre, and we weren’t even finished with the starter dishes. As for the starters, the deviled eggs were good, but the wedge salad was hard and even with a knife it was hard to cut. After the entre was presented it was more bad news. I had the schnitzel dish abd my friend had the fried chicken. The chicken was passable, but the schnitzel was like leather. It was fried and over cooked. We then had coffee, skipped dessert, and left. This restaurant was packed, but the whole experience was a disaster. This was our first time at the new location and it will be our last. There are just too many other excellent restaurants in the city were we can enjoy good food, not feel rushed, and enjoy our evening.

Hostess was especially pleasant. Bartender warmed up as night moved on. Burgers were very good.

The food was very good. VERY limited menu...check it out before going. Limited greens (a salad, one side veggie). The service was totally disappointing! Drinks didn't come until entree was served, even asking several time "where are they", had to ask for a steak knife for a pork chop and again had to wait. Had to ask for a dessert menu, had to ask for the check. Sorry, not what we expect from Wayfare Tavern!

Minimal service from a server with attitude. The bar doesn’t carry Grey Goose or Johnny Walker, and the wine-by-glass selection was poor. We considered the food mediocre - much of the menu was “stylized” versions of popular foods. But the popovers were great!

Food was excellent as always, and our server Sasha was outstanding. The deviled eggs, branzino and of course the fried chicken did not disappoint. But the setting—what were they thinking? The front dining room is cacophonous, with sound ricocheting off the hard surfaces and high ceilings. To get to the rear dining room, where we were seated, you have to walk through the pass, dodging servers picking up orders. Our table was in a far back corner behind a shallow wall—as though we were relegated to the time-out table for naughty diners. It was so disappointing. Wayfare Tavern has been one of my favorite restaurants for many years and a go-to spot for celebrations. I don’t know that I will be returning.

Had a business lunch at the new Wayfare Tavern. Same delicious food, great service and lively atmosphere as the old location. Expensive, but what do you expect in San Francisco. I'll definitely be back.
