All three floors of the restaurant have been designed keeping historical accuracy in mind making Wayfare Tavern reminiscent of a Victorian parlor and an Edwardian men's club, where anything goes from black-tie to blue jeans. Pull up a stool to the Chef's Counter at the open kitchen and look on as Chef prepares your lunch or head to the Library and Billiard Room for a game of pool. Wayfare Tavern is a truly unparalleled dining experience translated from a century ago. Photo: John Lee.

I celebrated my birthday at Wayfare recently and I was beyond impressed. The food was to. die. for. Incredible service, gluten friendly options, and a wonderful vibe. I was able to sit upstairs and enjoy each part of my meal. Definitely returning!
Went to Wayfare to celebrate our anniversary. Found out later that friends called ahead to send us a bottle of champagne to celebrate- the restaurant took credit for it, signed the card from themselves. Service was only so so. The manager treated us as if we had covid. Food was served cold. Overall a lack luster experience at a very high price.
We went to celebrate my niece’s 16th bday. Made a note of it in the opentable notes when I made the rez. Request for a candle with the dessert was ignored.
Soup was served room temperature I had to send it back to be reheated. Was so looking forward to try the famous fried chicken but it was underwhelming at best. The mashed potatoes wasn’t good. My vegan daughter contented herself with the broccolini which was super oily. There were little dishes of dip and seasoning we had to figure o which dish they go with.
It probably was just an off day for the restaurant but I’m not sure I would venture to try them again to find out.
Excellent welcome back
Outdoor seating was nice & much better than expected.
A lovely location, AMAZING service, and a menu with local and international specialties. the PEL mussels were to die for as were the popovers. Only caveat is the fried chicken touted by Food & Wine Magazine: not worth the price or hype.
This was our first time at Wayfare. Very cool setting. The hostess was cold and not welcoming. It seems that COVID restrictions have caused restaurant staff to lose their friendliness. It's sad they don't appreciate that people are making an effort to dine out and keep them employed but instead have reverted to being angry masking police. Our server was fantastic. The drinks were good. The food was not. The fried chicken had great reviews but it was very dry. Not sure if we'll come back or not.
First, a few positives. Excellent service, great cocktails, best-ever caesar salad. Low points. We could sit directly across from each other -- we had to sit diagonal because booth sides are close together (your knees would touch plus some!) and there are also huge table legs in the way. Rest of the food was disappointing. Brussel sprouts were "roasted" beyond char. Fried chicken was cold in the middle and luke warm (barely) on the outside. The waiter very quickly attended to the chicken for us.
Always a hit. Even sitting outside. Fantastic martini!
We went for the first time to enjoy the Travel Zoo friend chicken dinner. The meal was amazing and the rest of the experience closely followed suit.
It was okay. The gnocchi was not especially good.
Outside in the alley due to Covid, they did a nice job making that work. They ran out of the mashed potatoes which is a bummer considering that is a nice compliment to the main course
We came here for our 32nd wedding anniversary with our kids. The food was excellent! Every dish was delicious, the sides were excellent, and our drinks were great. Our only complaint was the service. We had a waitress that would disappear and couldn’t be found when we needed to order an additional drink and wanted to order desserts. I was surprised since the other wait staff was around all the time clearing plates and taking orders at other tables, she was not. We don’t go out in SF that much right now because of COVID but we would definitely come back, hopefully with a new waitress!
So happy we dined here...and delighted with the food. It was awesome. Manager greeted us with some 2020 history and challenges they have overcome to stay in business. Deviled eggs, Caesar salad, fried chicken and burger were all incredibly tasty. Our server was not too pleasant nor attentive but it didn't spoil our evening. Can't wait to return.
Were careful with COVID-19 guidelines and respectful of diners. Service was outstanding, especially in adapting to the protocols. Food was phenomenal as usual.
They had a nice outdoor dining set up and the service and care re sanitation was excellent!!
Food as always superb!!!
We always love coming here and enjoyed sitting outside and getting the same experience! The beef tartar is the best! We will be back!
great outdoor sitting option, still love the place. great service.
Great food and great service
I went with a friend I hadn’t seen in four years . Service was ok, but it seemed like the waiter had too many tables. My steak tartare was amazing, but the chicken sandwich was literally two over cooked pieces of chick, both very small. They fell out immediately abs I ate them thinking there was more chicken in the sandwich. There wasn’t so I just ate my fires. This is the second time I’m underwhelming by the service and the food. I think I stick with Tiramisu when I have lunch downtown. Excellent servive and decent portions and large cocktails that aren’t mostly ice.
I specifically informed the restaurant that it was our anniversary.. we got seated, ask the hostess if we can sit on a 4 seats table and she said it’s for a bigger party, then there were another 4 seats table that was available again and we asked very nicely if we can sit on the table, but again she said no to the waiter, few mins after, the 4 seats table were given to A COUPLE 🤦🏻♀️, seriously .. I always like to sit next to my man wherever restaurants we go to. I UNDERSTAND IF THE RESTAURANT IS FULLY BOOKED AND NO TABKES WERE AVAILABLE
We sat on our table for awhile that I had to flag another waiter so we can order our drinks, we came all the way from Santa Barbara n booked our hotel nearby so we can have indoor dining at this restaurant.. since the table were given to someone, we just decided to order few appetizers n just leave! It wasn’t like you were busy at all, btw the moment we sat down .. a couple were also sitting on a 4 seats table but refused to offer us smh!
Thanks for not accommodating our request when you just decided to just give the table to someone else!
Btw... not one of the servers greeted us a happy Anniversary too.. so what’s the point of you asking if we are celebrating any occasions!!???
I wish we were given the choice to eat indoor. The weather quickly changed on us & the heaters aren’t very efficient with heat. And may I suggest adding bigger tables for a party of 4. With serving family style, there’s not enough room for everything.
I hope to return when COVID is further along.
This was my second time dinning at Wayfare Tavern. First time after reopening for in door dinning since Covid-19 shutdown. Experience wise, service reminded me of a restaurant soft opening. Wait staff was very inattentive at best. My wine glass was empty and waited for my waiter to refill my wine glass. He walked by my table several time without refilling my wine glass. I ended refilling my own wine glass -not once but three times.
Amazing ! Simply Amazing
Long wait, Restaurant overbooked for same time... food not up to par
Another wonderful dinner at the Wayfare Tavern! Everyone makes such an effort to be helpful and gracious at this restaurant. Food and drinks are amazing. They do a wonderful job insuring their patron and staff’s safety by all their Covid protocol. Can’t wait when we return to SF to go back!❤️
We sat inside. The food was good as usual ( the fried chicken was awesome). It was difficult to adhere to the mask guidelines, as the servers were always near our table and trying their best to provide service, but there never enough time to put my mask back on. I spent part of my dinner taking my mask on and off every few minutes trying to do my part to keep everyone healthy. Overall, it was great to be back at Wayfare, even with the limited menu.
Great night. Small but tasty menu. Great bar program. Super fun location.
It was a great experienced!
Food OK. Service lacking
It was so nice to be out with family having a gorgeous dinner
My friends ordered the salmon and I ordered the pork chops. All our plates were eaten clean! Staff is professional and friendly. Love this place!
Enjoyed the fried chicken and loved the popovers!
Outdoor dining in the alley next door was great. The fried chicken is awesome. NA diwth the TravelZoo deal, value can't be beat
I love dining at Wayfare Tavern. The service is always excellent. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The food is amazing. My favorites are the fried chicken, hamburger and the doughnuts. However, I wisj they would make the peach cobbler again
Did not disappoint! Great staff, working like a well trained team. Especially impressive during these trying times. Experience did not make us feel that we were sacrificeing any quality due to the pandemic.
The broccoline was awesome!
We will definitely go back again and recommend it to friends.
We had not been out to eat in about 6 weeks! The food was AMAZING and the staff were terrific! The fried chicken was to die for! We will be back again.
Thanks Wayfare Tavern Staff
Considering the circumstances everybody is forced to deal with right now, outstanding meal, terrific staff. Danny , and the rest of the staff were great.Funny to think, I would pay to dine at an outdoor table in a side street and absolutely love the experience can’t wait to go back
The service was terrible. We were put out on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant next to loading area. We ordered champagne and it didn't come until our meal? The waitress never came back it was host who served us our champagne. Then they were loading a van in front of us while we ate. I felt the service was close to non-existent and with loading of the van in front of us the ambience was the worst.
