All three floors of the restaurant have been designed keeping historical accuracy in mind making Wayfare Tavern reminiscent of a Victorian parlor and an Edwardian men's club, where anything goes from black-tie to blue jeans. Pull up a stool to the Chef's Counter at the open kitchen and look on as Chef prepares your lunch or head to the Library and Billiard Room for a game of pool. Wayfare Tavern is a truly unparalleled dining experience translated from a century ago. Photo: John Lee.

Fried Chicken Sandwhich
buttermilk brined chicken, house-made pickles, green apple & fennel slaw, harissa aioli
Superb food. I don't know if it's America's best, but the fried chicken was pretty darn good. The popover 'bread' was excellent (that's Yorkshire pudding, for the Brits), and the doughnuts we had for desert were both light and tasty. Definitely pretty noisy, even on a Wednesday lunchtime, but tolerable. Service was friendly and prompt.
This was my first business lunch in more than 1 year, and the outdoor seating option was a great option. We had wonderful service and great food, and are happy Wayfare Tavern is open and doing well.
This was a big let down of an experience. We've been to Wayfare Tavern over the years and have really liked it, but last night we had a really bad experience there.
We were seated at 6:45pm and two of us already had drinks, but two of us did not. The waiter took a really long time to approach the table, but did get the drinks going. He then blurted something about oysters and left. He didn't return for 20-30 minutes and when we ordered the oysters that he had mentioned we said we needed a minute to look over the menu. He then told us, "Oh no, the kitchen is closing right now, you need to order everything!" So we ordered in a rush. The table was also a two-top and not big enough for four.
We made the best of it, but the service and weird waiter interactions just made the whole experience a little bit miserable. We won't be going back there again.
Great place for brunch on Sundays!
Our server Brian was fantastic and directed us in all the right directions for our food choices. We loved everything and we would definitely go back. It was our 14th wedding Anniversary.
Wanted to try this place for awhile. Service was excellent. Food was excellent. Cocktails were delicious. Pricy but worth it. Felt full but not weighed down. We tried things from the raw bar, sides, appetizers and entrees. Deviled eggs and burrata were so good. Fried chicken and tavern burger were super yummy. Fried artichokes, I’m obsessed. All the cocktails were nicely balanced and delicious. They have a nice outdoor dining area. It was a wonderful afternoon meal.
We enjoyed our lunch at Wayfare. The popovers served before our meal were excellent, fresh and hot.
I had the waffles and fried chicken. The chicken is fried to perfection, the batter contains fresh herbs. The waffle is sweet, touched with vanilla. One of my companions had the Brentwood corn soup along with an order of fried artichokes. The soup tasted of the essence of fresh corn I'll be back to order that. My other companion had the mussels which came with chorizo, fava beans and couscous. The portions are hearty, bring your appetite.
For dessert two of us had the coconut cake, layers of yellow cake layered with pineapple curd. The vanilla frosting had fresh coconut sprinkled all over and it was served sitting in a sauce of toasted almonds. The slice is ample, rich yet refreshing and well worth the splurge. My other friend had the brownie trifle, dark chocolate pudding with brownie chunks mixed with macerated cherries. If you need a chocolate fix this is for you.
Our sever was intuitive and knew when we needed extra silverware and water.
It was a nice day so we chose to sit outside in the tent. Next time (covid permitting) we'd like to sit inside. The interior appears to have a cozy, rustic ambience decorated in period detail.
We'll be back!
Great food. Excellent service
Excellent, thank you.
Wonderful dinner! Thanks Wayfare!!
Great food and service
This is my third visit and it was very good. Chicken was delicious and tender. Beef dish my hubby had was excellent. I love the ambiance here even when it’s so busy you have to say “whattt???” Several times. The corn soup was delicious also. Thanks again. Service was impeccable!
Food was great and service was terrific
The food is fantastic. We had the best fried chicken.
We had the burrata, peach salad and shared corn soup. It was delicious and the only downside was not having a bigger stomach to also have the fried chicken. I did get some lobster deviled eggs to go and boy was my husband happy.
Excellent food and excellent service. Easy to get to from the SF Ferry Building.
We were offered bread then told they didn’t have it today. Had a chicken sandwich and a burger. Both were good but thought the bun fell apart very quickly on both.
We sat outside on a chilly San Francisco evening, but the food and service made it worth it. Just amazing!
Food was yummy and the staff was amazing. Thank you.
The food was awesome - get the Fried Chicken and Burrata Mash potatoes. The menu wasn't large but everything was delicious as well as the cocktails and service. Our booth was very narrow and cramp (lacked leg room for adults) .
Food and drinks were beautifully presented and absolutely delicious!
It was a joy from the time we arrived to the time we left. Service was constantly excellent and polite. The meals arrive in a good time with excellent presentation and flavors off the charts.
Awesome. Great. Attentive service!
Fried chicken is fabulous and I've never been a fried chicken fan before. This fried chicken isn't greasy and has so much flavor and topped with fried herbs too which have a delightful crunch. The music outside was great. Can't wait to come back - one of our fav restaurants in SF.
Best chicken in town.
Excellent dishes but our French waiter was very difficult to understand and was impatient.
Chef Tyler Florence personally greeted us outside, brought us in and sat us to his table! He ordered for us just about everything on the menu & it was ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! Started with the sweet succulent oysters, the hot steamy popovers, then the most INCREDIBLE Prime Beef Tartare I ever will have the pleasure tasting in my life! Next, the super creamy Burrata Toast w/melon & prosciutto melted in the mouth. Lobster Boil Deviled Eggs were the perfect bite of Heaven. Of course we had his World Famous California Herb Fried Chicken that always impresses & satisfies! Burrata whipped potatoes/Mac n Cheese & a slice of Pineapple Coconut Cake was ridiculously deliciousness! The ambiance was nothing but relaxing & inviting. Our waiter, Brian, was super personable, knowledgeable, patient & a pleasure. Our overall experience was STELLAR!! I’d give it 10 stars but y’all need to give me that option! Thank you, Tyler & Wayfare Tavern! See you again soon!
Good place for business meeting. Like the outdoor area that has been built.
Yummy shrimp cocktail, yummy perfect burger, fried chicken was perfect, good but $$$ cocktails. Waiter was great, hustling around, wonderful ambience, too full for awesome sounding desserts
Best fried chicken ever! Great service and great wine list. Love the atmosphere and excellent for business meetings or fun times. Can't wait to get back!
Incredibly slow. Over 1 hr and 20 min for two salads.
Found the napkin had a stain and I asked for another new one. But again, the another one had a same issue and the writer didn’t feel sorry about this. Finally the third napkin had no issue, very disappointed for such high class restaurant.
Amazing food and great service... very dish was delicious!
SF Gem. Excellent food and service. Had a great lunch.
Everything was fabulous. Get the deviled eggs!
Had a reservation for Sunday afternoon, we were seated early (Bonus)! Our waiter was super informative concerning the establishment, menu items, drink recommendations, appetizers, answered all questions (there was a bunch!!). They are known for the fried chicken, don't even hesitate, it was delicious! This restaurant will go in the regular rotation!
Love the restaurant atmosphere. Wanted to come her because it’s Tyler Florence’s restaurant. Sadly the food wasn’t great.
Had an enjoyable brunch. Everything was delicious from the popovers to dessert. Great server and supporting staff.
Great food with good service. Have option for indoor and outdoor dining.
