Water Grill - San Diego

Great food. We shared a bottle of wine and no corkage fee was much appreciated. We will mark this as a favorite and pass on the recommendation to many of our friends
The staff was incredible! Very friendly and helpful. The food was amazing, there were 5 of us and we each enjoyed our meal very much.
Just a mediocre meal. They took away a 3/4 full bottle of wine, and cleared our meal when we weren’t finished. Then they gave us place settings after we had finished our dessert. My advise, skip water grill.
Had a dinner with friends on a Tues night at Water Grill. Good overall atmosphere although a bit noisy and remarkably crowded for a weeknight. Better on warmer evenings since they seem to leave the garage door/windows open most of the night. If you like seafood this is the place to come, awesome selection of oysters and fresh fish. A bit on the expensive side, particularly the wine list, but overall a good experience. And in the middle of the gas lamp so many options afterward for drinks and music - Prohibition was our choice that night and a really good one.
Mexican swordfish was disappointing and not cooked properly
Jordan was a superb server. Maybe one of the best I’ve experienced. The food was outstanding and service was quick. Just a marvelous evening.
I’ve never left a negative review...until now. The service was slow, everyone seemed too busy with other tables, there were no napkins on the table, the server never checked back during meal, water glasses were empty, the server didn’t properly describe the “salad”...AND...no one ever mentioned the BIRTHDAY we had referenced on our reservation. Other than that, it was perfect!😳😳😳😳😳
Loved our waitress!!
Amazing seafood meal!!! Our waiter was impeccable. Great service and atmosphere. We were able to grab a last minute reservation and it was worth it. The food was beyond fresh and tasty! I will definitely go back when we are back in town.
Service was decent but the sides were u dercooked.
Terrible braised kale, terrible castaway drink, sparse service and over cooked steak
We were really looking forward to eating our fancy seafood meal, but the lobster was not properly prepared. So disappointing! We had no trouble getting a table for 4 at 8pm, our server was great and we enjoyed the ambience. But if you're looking for quality seafood -- keep looking!
Frozen seafood in the platter; vegetable clam chowder, Chilean seabass tasty but needs sides that don’t charge extra. Too expensive for the food
I love downtown and eat out a lot. Water grill has become
My favorite seafood restaurant in the area. The food is always fresh and delicious. Good variety of Oysters. And good drinks. Can’t ask for much more.
I know I'm in the minority for giving this restaurant a poor rating, but we just weren't impressed at all. The service was great and the drinks were great. But, they sat us (despite having a reservation and the restaurant being fairly empty) next to the drafty door. We both had the Chilean sea bass which tasted a little fishy and was a big let down overall. The rest of the food we had was good but not the best we've had from restaurants in that area.
A favorite of ours! Water Grill never disappoints, and I was delighted to see how busy it was on an early Wednesday evening. The iced shellfish tower is a delicious appetizer for us, and we love the breads as well. Our go-to cocktail is the margarita verde. My spouse had the organic greens salad, and I had the bitter greens salad - excellent. The fish and chips were crispy and hot; my grilled sole was perfectly cooked and seasoned. We celebrated our 20 anniversary at Water Grill, and our excellent server, Lindsay, bought us our dessert. If you are a seafood lover, I encourage you to visit Water Grill.
All good. Wonderful menu. Great place for a relaxing business lunch.
Everything was just Awesome!!! I am from Seattle so we get our fair share of Seafood and this was fantastic. Loved the oysters and whole grilled seabass!!
It was a nice evening and our server (Olivia, I think) was awesome. She was able to deliver a special request for my meal during a super busy night. She was the highlight!
The food was good, but they ran out of multiple desserts while we were there so we ultimately had to pick three desserts to get one that they had. The manager was very apologetic and offered some options to try to make up for it (but it really wasn’t the end of the world!) they definitely handled it much better than 99% of other restaurants so kudos to them for that!
Service and food were pretty poor. Even with reservation, 35min wait. After sitting down, 15min just to get drinks; another 15 min to take order. Ordered pumpkin soup and it had zero taste, completely bland. Dinner entrees were skimpy. Key lime pie for dessert was really thin, about 1/4" of pie. Really disappointed for the money.
My server was excellent and the food was delicious
Top 2 or 3 seafood restaurants in San Diego. Great service. Wide selection of oysters. No corkage on top of all that!
Seafood entrees were delicious and the bread was yummy
Our waiter was excellent, the atmosphere is wonderful. The prices are somewhat high for the worth.
Good variety of very fresh seafood, prompt service, tad pricey
Good food. Waiter does not focus on table. Seems distant. Poor overall experience.
Excellent bread, salad and service -- can't say as much for the seafood itself or the atmosphere. We had an early dinner on a night the restaurant was not busy and came in with high expectations. Host and servers were terrific from start to finish. Asiago cheese bread and (huge!) wedge salad with goat blue started off the meal on a very encouraging note. Fish entrees were cooked well, but a big disappointment due to the poor quality of the fish. We were sitting near a large party celebrating some occasion -- these folks were extremely loud and profane. I was surprised that the restaurant did not even attempt to moderate them -- maybe because they really needed the business?
We were celebrating my husbands birthday and Carly our server was amazing. She was attentive and her suggestions were spot on. The food and drinks were delicious and we had a great time. They brought over a bread pudding dessert to celebrate the occasion and it was to die for. The cherry on top was the birthday card signed by the staff. We will definitely be back. We appreciate all the attention to detail that they delivered.
The best of everything!!!
I opted for two appetizers- the crab cake (quite large w almost all crab/very little filing) and the ahi poke ( nice, firm pieces) which were both excellent! Plenty of food which was rounded off nicely with the kale yogurt with hazelnuts side dish. Just no room for dessert.
Dawna was our waitress. She help us greatly. Her recommendation and great attitude was what you need when trying a new restaurant. It was so relaxing and we were able to talk without having to yell at one another. Now the food was just amazing. We ordered multiple oysters and not one failed our taste buds. Our main course was even better. New Order crab cakes salads shrimp and grits is just amazing. You will have to go and experience the great food and nice atmosphere.
Beautiful restaurant but service was way off. Brought dinner entrees out when appetizers still on table. Two entrees raw and had to be replaced. They did do that but half of the party finished meal before others received theirs. Food good otherwise.
We had a fantastic experience here. The food alone would have garnered 4-4.5 stars, but the service was superb.
From start to finish our server, Garrett, was attentive without being overbearing, knowledgeable, & very personable. We had a few drinks. We also ordered and ate mussels, beet salad, house salad, kids salmon w/ a modified side, scallops, dover sole, & brussel sprouts. We also had the bread pudding dessert (yum).
I avoid dairy and the mussels normally include it. Not only were they perfectly willing to create my dish without the cream, it was done without any hesitation or hint of it being a bother. The same can be said for my 2 year olds side dish which she devoured along with her salmon.
It was a great experience and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
A fantastic meal with family! Our server Bob was knowledgeable, funny and did a great job. The food was out of this world. The clam chowder was the best that I have ever had. We had the lobster roll, raw tuna dish, scallops, black cod, swordfish and shrimp and grits. All the dishes were amazing! Would highly recommend.
We have been to water grill many times and always love the great service and best seafood in San Diego. Unfortunately, on this occasion, our lobster was overcooked and very tough and difficult to eat. We did bring it to their attention and they graciously bought us a round of drinks. Lesson learned, send the food back as soon as you know there is something wrong! We will be back, still believe this is the best seafood in San Diego.
We always eat here and the food never disappoints! The service this time, however, was not good. Very disappointed.:/
Fantastic fresh seafood. We went for lunch and I had the Shrimp Louie salad, abundant large shrimp and a home made louie dressing that was fabulous. My wife had the swordfish and it was a large very thick steak cooked to perfection sitting on top of fresh grilled asparagus in a lemon cream sauce, also fantastic. Everyone is friendly and the wait staff are prompt courteous and friendly. Highly recommend.
We went to the Water Grill for the first time while in San Diego for a visit. We were greeted and seated promptly. Our server talked us through the menu since we had so many choices. We found the seafood to be very fresh and our meals were delicious. I had the black cod and I must say that this is the first time that I’ve found black cod on a menu. My husband had the salmon which he enjoyed. I would recommend the Water Grill to anyone looking for a delicious seafood meal.
È sempre un piacere ritornarci. Ho visitato in passato il ristorante di Los Angeles e quello di Santa Monica.
Non poteva mancare quello di San Diego.
Ottimo ristornate. Cibo squisito.
Xmas eve so busy and slow food service. They did not have many fish items on the menu because of a shortage of stock for the night. Mgr did the right thing and comp a lobster on the meal.
Waiter was pleasant, nice and good, but the kitchen was slow to furnish meals.
