Highly over rated. There were more employees than customers and it was still the longest I've ever waited for service.
Food was good. Took a while to get our order taken. The waitress also touched my fork with her hand. Wish she would have acknowledged that and brought me a new fork but that wasn’t the case. She new she touched it and just basically left.
Awesome Service !!!
Super Vibe !!!
Great Food !!!
Spending a weekend south of Pasadena, CA, is always great.. we are always grateful of the time we are given to spend time with the kids and grandkids!
That said, Friday afternoon allowed for some time for my wife and I to enjoy together.
We were cruising down J Street and noticed Water Grill and wondered if this was part of a family of restaurants (we had eaten many times before over many years at the Water Grill in Los Angeles).
We made a reservation and then arrived on time.
Super Vibe !!! Blending open and warm architecture and beautiful bifold vertical windows that bring the dynamic street scene in, one feels a part of the community (plus the people watching is awesome). Moreover, the vibe is more laid back then the Downtown Los Angeles location... and it should be as it is San Diego of course :)!!
We were greeted and seated immediately.
Awesome Service !!! Dawna and her team mate (we apologize for not remembering her name too) provided us with Awesome Service !!! They were super friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable! They assisted us with ordering drinks and appetizers. Later, they reviewed the menu with us and then made sure we were happy with our choices. Their energy was positive and uplifting:)
Great Food !!! We ordered crab cakes, fish and chips and the Black Sea Bass (grilled, of course because I love grilling fish). They were all so flavorful and perfectly prepared, just like our experiences at its sibling in Los Angeles;)
We had a great time enjoying the Vibe, Service and Food!
Life is short, enjoy it and spread the Love. Water Grill helps:)
A great place for a pre-game meal. Generally good service. Loved the fish n' chips.
great service and classy joint. The fish was cooked perfectly, but then layered in salt that just ruined it.
Mixed green salad was huge but way too much dressing. Filet was not worth the $46. Sea Bass was ok but too much salt on crust. Service was just ok, didn’t refill water or bring bread that was requested. I would have ordered more wine had the server been faster to check on us. Mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts were the best part of meal.
We had a large group and had a few order mishaps along the way. Wrong entree, had to wait while the right one was fired while everyone else ate. Signature cocktails tasting different each time ordered.
Water Grill was awesome. The service was great and the food was phenomenal. I had the Chilean Sea Bass and Maple Cheesecake and both were fantastic. I had a group of 8 people I was buying dinner for and some ordered oysters, drinks and everyone had dessert and the bill was barely over $100 per head. Fantastic value considering how good the food was. The restaurant itself was beautiful inside and has a really nice feel to it. Some of my guests were big time food snobs and they all loved this place. I would definitely go again next time I'm in San Diego.
This was the most wonderful dining experience. The service was fantastic. They were attentive without being smothering. They friendly and made excellent suggestions. The food was delicious. Some of the best poke I've ever had. It was a perfect meal.
Everything we ordered (from the apps to sides) we thoroughly enjoyed. The service was fantastic and the ambiance was fun. This is a great place for any occasion!
Great place great waiter. Had the
Fritter appetizer yum!!! We had Brussel sprouts and we each had the scallops. Perfectly prepared, nice sized sea scallops with great flavor.
A bit more expensive than average. The service was not at the same level than the quality of the food.
The Water Grill is a sheer delight. The menu had almost too many choices, but the server had great suggestions and really helped ease the choices. Of my party of 6 that night, every single person loved their meal and the experience.
Been here a few times now. Fresh seafood with great wine and cocktails. Can’t go wrong!
Three of the five meals were less than expected from a restaurant of this stature. One of the fish meals was way over cooked (fried cod) and the sea bass and one of the halibut meals were very bland.
AMAZING food!!! Service was fantastic! Environment was quiet. Booked a reservation 45 min in advance and they had our table ready as soon as we walked in! Not a restaurant I could go to on the regular because the price point but definitely a great place for a special occasion! My ONLY negative (I’m not even sure that’s the right word because it wasn’t a HUGE problem) was that the waiter talked fast so when he was describing the dishes to us it was a bit difficult to follow everything he said. Besides that... SO glad we chose to eat there. The Chilean Sea Bass literally melted in my mouth. The Sole was delicious as well and so were the prawns. But hands down the Sea Bass was probably the best piece of fish I’ve ever had in my life!
After visiting the first time and the food was great was despointed the second time. My wife salmon was undercooked and my sea base portion was smaller then the previous time and they ran out of broccoli
great place for date night or family or just a group of friends
Food needed salt, was bland. Expected more of a wow experience with the price
Our server Garett was exceptional and appetizers (oysters and octopus) and entrees (Halibut and ribeye) were wonderful.
A great place to eat before a Padres game! The best fish in San Diego County! Friendly staff and awesome corner location in The Gas Lamp area.
Llegue al lugar a las 5 pm y ya me habian cancelado la reservacion, no se porque?
De cualquier manera estuvo bien, pero no lo deben de hacer cancelar si el restaurant estaba casi vacio
Food is fresh and has flavor!!!
Service is great!!
Restaurant is clean!!!
Fun place. We were there after Padres' opening day game and the place was crazy and fun, right in the heart of downtown. While not crowded with diners, our service was slow and the prices for food were a total disconnect from the quality of the food. My halibut extremely overcooked. Overall though, we enjoyed the scene and would give the food and service another chance.
Delicious dinner after Padres Opening Day game! Everything was wonderful!
Food was good but not hot; food was room temp. Dessert was amazing (bread pudding).
Always a treat to be able to be with friends at the Water Grill. Food, service, and ambience is exceptional. Have been many times and will definitely be back for more.
Service was fantastic. The food excellent. Highly recommend!
Meh....high price, small quantity and good (not great) dishes I expected but not hoped for. Hard to believe anyone goes out fairly to regularly for a mid $40s fish entree. $180 for two with tip that included two cocktails, one appetizer, two entrees and one dessert..IS a bit much.
The bread was delicious. My partner ordered the raw tuna and it was perfect, I ordered the chilled crab it had nice flavor but was dry.
Cappuccino was the best I have ever had.
Amazing as always! My favorite place
Great service, great food! The server was attentive and helpful, and the food was delicious.
Our waiter Bob made the whole meal such a treat, he’s the best!!
We really enjoyed our time at Water Grill, the service and food were amazing. Unfortunately, the noise level and immediate surroundings were very disruptive. It was very difficult to communicate casually, and detracted from the relaxed mood we were hoping for. We had asked to sit somewhere quieter, but the upstairs area was closed at the time.
The quality of the rest of the experience still made it very positive, but I would not come back when looking for a relaxing time.
Food quality was great. Dish creativity was lacking. Flavors and textures were great. We chose this restaurant for the king crab legs, looking for a generous amount of crab leg meat. Instead, we received crab legs that had huge joint knuckles with the legs being cut in half. While it all tasted great, our intended desire was not met. The chocolate mouse dessert was horrible. The bread pudding was outstanding.
Had an amazing dinner, Bob our server knew exactly how to make our dinner an experience we won’t forget! Definitely check out some of the raw bar to start, it’s a great way to experience how fresh the seafood is here. With 16 different oysters to choose from you can take a trip around the country without leaving your seat. The scallops from the raw bar are served on a half shell with a citrus pesto, pistachio and micro cilantro- Amazing. Crab cake- ammmazing, clams- amazing. For the main course we did a Spiney lobster which they have live in tank btw amazing. I would come here again in a heart beat. The experience is worth price!
Service extremely poor. Ignored at the bar for a good 15 minutes while waiting for table. Never did get a drink. Then very slow table service all through out the meal. Food was good but nothing special- certainly not worth the price. Disappointing night.
This place is only OK, I was a bit disappointed in most of the meal. Service was not the best for a table of 6, service was slow, food prep was ok, plates were very small. Actually, I can’t find anything good to say. You need to focus on serving the customer
Great location, really good food and wine, and amazing bread pudding for dessert!
The food was delicious and the service was excellent. It was pricey but a very nice option for me and my mom who was visiting.
