It was my girlfriend’s birthday and we were visiting from out of town. She ordered the octopus appetizer and asked me try it. I don’t eat seafood, but because it was her birthday I gave it a shot. It was delicious no fishiness at all. She had the Chilean Sea Bass and I had the New York steak. Both cooked perfectly. Ordered the Brussel Sprouts and the Broccolini as sides. Simply delicious. Our only regret was no room for dessert.

Water Grill is hands down the best seafood in all of San Diego.

Excellent experience and would def go back. Halibut was a little bit boring and i wish I got something different for $50... the scallops were best I ever tasted.

Overall experience was great! Food and drinks are so good! The only thing was the lobster Mac and cheese was dry and cold on the outside. Hot and cheesy in the middle. Still good we just had to dig for the good stuff!

Steak was cold and waiter never paid attention to our table.

Food was not seasoned. I had to add salt and pepper to everything. I have never done this at a restaurant before in my life. Ordered lump crab cake for appetizer and didn’t taste like anything. Next had to add salt & pepper.to the Chilean Sea Bass which needed seasoning too. Finally the lobster Mac & cheese once again had no flavor so added salt and pepper to make it taste good which a comfort food should already be ready to eat. My friend ordered caramel bread pudding to go...not sure how that was. All in all I expected more from this place. Have visited the one at The Forum Shops in Vegas and was only slightly better. This is a good place for drinks. App somehow wouldn’t let me add pics of appetizers & sea bass which all had a nice presentation.

My bartender/server was Michael. He was super cool to chat with and gave me some good insight on San Diego. I ordered a variety of oysters 🦪 and I had the scallops. The ambiance was nice, very airy. I would definitely recommend this place.

the quality of the Food was off the charts no matter what was ordered. the specials were good, the ordinary fare was good, the sides were good..........everything.
OUr waiter Megan was outstanding and personable and offered real attention so we had fun at the table.
What was not ideal was the high prices and the really small portions. When I say small I mean really small.........like 6 ounce fish portions, small vegie sides, no starch with your entres. It was a blatant gouging. Never again.

Worst sushi I’ve ever had. Would have preferred grocery store sushi, honestly.

Our server, Jordan was exceptional! He gave great suggestions for menu options, answered all of our questions, and had a very pleasant personality. Jordan’s suggestions were on point! He explained he’d worked at the restaurant since it opened. He was passionate about the food and his career and it showed. We’ll be back.

Server was awesome

The service was very good, our waiter was very helpful on suggesting dishes for us (we were visiting from NM) and also helping select gluten free modifications. We got the sea bass dish which my husband didn't have the modification and said was delicious. I had the same fish but there was some gluten free noodles in a broth. The fish was cooked perfectly and tasted OUTSTANDING. I did not care for the noodles but it was still an overall great dish.

Really good service, food was okay in my opinion nothing spectacular. Great bread and shrimp cocktail. My boyfriend loved the grilled octopus I didn’t enjoy the shrimp scampi.

The hostess was flustered and rude. The rest of the staff was great. The food was also on point.

Food was cold. Lobster Mac wasn’t warm. Manila Clams came out cold when it’s supposed to be a hot dish. Same with clam chowder. After eating Manila clams dish we were approached with a food runner bringing the same dish but hot. We obviously knew they brought out a dish that had been sitting there so it wouldn’t go to waste.

Incredible experience from start to finish. Our server was attentive and had excellent oyster recommendations. He stopped by frequently to check on us, and kept our drinks flowing. I had the shrimp scampi - 10 stars. My wife had jumbo shrimp Louie salad. She shared the massive portion of bacon with me, which went really well with scampi. They should consider making that an option IMO.

Usually bread isn’t all that noteworthy. Not the case at Water Grill! We devoured it. Every bit.

Can’t wait to return on the next San Diego visit.
