Visiting from NY and was looking for a place for dinner! Came across this place on Open Table!! This place was SOOOO GOOD!!! Def recommend!!! We got the corn chowder soup, Caesar salad and Seafood pasta!!! We would have ordered more if we weren’t stuffed from our earlier lunch wine tasting!
My son and I were pleasantly surprised by this little place in Santa Rosa. It was packed. Food was good, service was excellent. I made reservations same day on a Friday, so couldnt get a table inside. We chose the bar instead of sitting outside. I would go back. I had a chicken breast was a bit overcooked. Son had the porkchop, he enjoyed it.
Always love this sweet spot to have a cozy dinner with loved ones for special occasions. This was a birthday dinner with my daughter and we had a lot of catching up to do. The outdoor dining feels like a lovely garden and the food is always good.
Staff was extremely professional and knowledgeable. We were told all ingredients in every dish as it was presented to our table. As well as knowledgeable of wine profiles to pair with every course. We will definitely be back and we will bring friends to share this amazing experience. Highly recommend eating here.
Simply fantastic, as always!
One of our favorite spots
Wonderful food and excellent staff
The food is impeccable as is the service. The fall soups were sublime in flavor and presentation. The halibut and duck breast were done to perfection. I love this place for a spirited evening of conversation and gastronomic delights.
Perfect service snd food was delicious. Staff was very knowledgeable about their food and wine.
This restaurant is a hidden gem in this area, especially if you’re a foodie and love seafood. I highly recommend it!
This was my second time here. The food was delicious and service excellent. I recommend thé Cheese platter and pork chop highly.
What a fabulous meal in a cozy restaurant. Our server was amazing and our meal was so tasty. Must have the escargot when you visit!
This was our first time here and I’m sorry that we waited so long to dine at this restaurant. The food was beyond amazing. I had the best halibut I have ever had. Our server was a star. I can’t say enough about how much I love this restaurant and how we will be back many more times.
Delicious meals. The rabitt was prepared superbly and the ice cream stuffed eclairs were otherworldly.
My friend and I had a great time here. The food was excellent, the staff very friendly, and you get like you were dining in a farmhouse. I can’t wait to go back.
We had a delicious and lovely dinner with attentive service We have eaten here many times and the food was even better than usual!
One of the best restaurants in Santa Rosa. Always great food and the service is impeccable. My husband and I have eaten here many times and love this place for special occasions as well as the impromptu need for a great burger. Highly recommended.
Best Farm to Table in Sonoma County! The rabbit was so good, I ordered a second one to take home! All foods were amazing and the service impeccable.
I love this restaurant! The food is always great!
Throughly enjoyed all aspects of our time there. We have never had a bad meal or experience at Walter Hansel
Offers a menu of old school French bistro classics like duck confit, French onion soup, cheese platter, duck-lardon-frisee salad, classic Caesar salad and chocolate profiteroles. The Service was very good - prompt and on point. The food is generous portions. Complimentary amuse bouche and port wine were nice touches. The confits were OK, not excellent. They were cooked to tender and well seasoned, but the meat tasted re-warmed - both the duck gizzard salad and the rabbit confit, but they tasted old and reheated. The frisee lettuce was fresh and the lardons plentiful.
This was our first time at the Bistro and it was outstanding. Three of us had the hangar steak and one the seafood dish and they were excellent. Two of us also had French onion soup and it was nicely prepared and delicious. Pricing is what one would expect for such high quality food. The service was also very attentive but not instrusive. We ate outside and did not see the interior; maybe next time.
Excellent food, the gizzard salad, beet salad and duck entree were outstanding
Food was good although my fish was a little dry. Another in my party said the rabbit was the best. Service was excellent. Restaurant is close to the road and we had decided to sit outside due to the pandemic. Traffic noise was excessive. If we return it will be after the pandemic is under control and we feel comfortable sitting inside. On a totally positive note the 2018 Walter Hansel Three Rows Pinot Noir is superb.
The staff was very friendly and inviting. When we drove up we couldn’t tell where to enter. The outside smelled of manure. Once we began to order the tap water tasted and smelled off so we ordered canned soft drinks. The baked French onion soup was delicious although hardly any cheese on top. I had the duck with polenta and carrots, duck was not that tender and dry, polenta was tasty carrots were really under cooked. The hanger steak was chewy, frites were nothing special. So we decided to skip dessert. The server was very good and inquired often regarding our needs.
Bested our expectations! Everyone was great and the food was solid.
Fresh from the garden beet salad was beautifully presented and the most delicious I think I've ever had. My husband, not a beet lover, agreed! The special of the week, Seafood Risotto, highlighted the fish which was properly cooked and had great flavor. Didn't save room for dessert, but I've been told they are delicious too.
We come here often and are never disappointed. I prefer the new indoor seating which spaces out the tables. Everything was amazing and the staff is always courteous and attentive.
We were immediately greeted with complimentary sparkling rosé but a lovely cheerful woman. They brought out a sample of a soup as well. The food TASTED fresh and looked stunning. We started with the heirloom tomato salad and it was gone in seconds. I had a potato gnocchi and my boyfriend had the Halibut. There were absolutely no leftovers. When you first see the place you may think about turning around because it’s definitely an older quaint place, but don’t. Everything was 5 stars I have nothing to complain about. Thank you all for being so welcoming
The managers have changed, and the menu is updated. The staff continues to be gracious, generous with information. We are welcomed like family, and they remember our needs and requirements.
We had a great evening. Everything was perfect. I highly recommend Walter Hansel.
Enjoyed the casual, friendly and warm atmosphere and service. Delicious meal. Felt like old Sonoma County( a compliment!)
We sat outside. Noise came from street and kitchen.
We had a wonderful anniversary dinner last night at Walter Hansel. Everything was perfect, from ambience to food to beverages to dessert. We will definitely be going there again. Thanks Walter Hansel for a memorable dinner.
Wow. What a fabulous restaurant. The food was delicious…I ordered the beet salad and short rib. My friends ordered the snails…it was wonderful from the first bite to the last. The restaurant looks like it is in a converted house and is very cool. The service was excellent, and a great wine list. We did the Walter Hansel Chardonnay flight. It was great. We are definitely going back!
Excellent as usual. Escargot are so delicious! Lovely seasonal Gravenstein apple dishes, both a salad and tarte tatin. Generous meat portion on the short rib stroganoff with pea shoots to keep it fresh. Friendly attentive service, as always. Love this place!
Great food. The service was amazing: attentive without being too interruptive. Wine choice was excellent and went well with the chicken cordon bleu. Will definitely visit again.
Heather was delightful. Always appreciate the extras! Scallop s were delicious. Glad to see more fish on the menu! Enjoyed the yellowtail.
Thank you for a pleasant evening!
It was our first time there and we were looking forward to the experience because of the reviews. First off the service was outstanding. Friendly and attentive staff and the location and ambiance is first rate. However the meals were just good. We had the duck breast and pork chop main courses and they were more like home cooked and uninspiring. It may have just been on off night for the chef and with many people still staying away from dining sourcing ingredients may be challenging.
Very much liked the place though and will certainly go back for another experience.
We always love WHB. The staff is friendly and very accommodating for allergies and sensitivities. Our favorite restaurant for more than 5 years.
