Vito's By the Park - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Food was very good. Unfortunately, the cold draft from the front door made the entire dining experience chilly. We asked the hostess to move our table away from the door, but it didn't help much. The lit fireplace, while visually appealing, didn't throw any heat. Server was timely and helpful.
I had the chocolate pasta bolognese dish, and it was delicious! Not too heavy, and seasoned just right. Their garlicky bread and sauce is always a treat, and the salad was very fresh and a good size for lunch. Everyone enjoyed their lunches, and we will definitely return!
We had an early dinner on a Sunday night before a show so it was nice and quiet. Can't attest to the noise level on a busy night. I had the signature chocolate truffle pasta with bolognese sauce and my guest had the short ribs. Both were very good. I was nervous about the chocolate truffle pasta but it didn't taste chocolatey at all. Just kind of rich and earthy and very delicious. I would definitely eat here again.
Seems the menu changed a bit since we were last there and nothing really stood out though we both had a good meal.
Our waitress was very polite and friendly and did a good job.
One small pointer to her would be to pour a tasting of wine first off to the individual who ordered it rather than 2 full glasses. ..that way it can be tested for palatability, etc.
Our table wobbled the entire time the service try to fix it however unsuccessful. I got the braised short ribs they were super salty. My husband got the lobster ravioli the portion size looked like an appetizer. The service was excellent and the hostess was super kind.
When an Italian restaurant is less than half full at peak dining hours, on a holiday weekend, when the city hosts a marathon the following day you know something is up.
Our experience was fully mediocre, from the long wait for serivce, to the unkempt waitstaff, to the fully unremarkable food. While nothing was truly dreadful it was tremendously average. An Olive Garden experience at premium prices. Perhaps not a place to avoid but not one to rush to either. (For me, I could have given a more generous review had our wait person not been tardy, terribly sloppy and fairly inattentive.)
I rarely feel the desire to write a review but our excellent experience at Vito's deserves broadcast. We have dined there many times but our food and service on this occasion were superior, and of great value for the price.
The chopped salad, chicken and artichokes with linguini and Nona's pasta with broccoli rabe and sausage were each flavorful with generous portions. Our server happily went the extra mile by splitting our chocolate torte on separate plates and packing up our leftovers - including the focaccia.
Kudos to Vito's!
It was a very nice evening at the beginning. We got to our table at 6:30 which was our reservation time. We were greeted by server and we ordered our food and drinks. All was well until the main course which arrived at 7:22 well behind several tables around us who either ordered a little before us or right after us. Basically when food came we had less time to eat it than we expected as we had to be at the theater before 8. Food was very good and plentiful but very late. Server was apologetic and did discount our ticket but I would have preferred to have dined versus rushing to eat.
We were a group of friends meeting at Vito's prior to attending a performance at The Bushnell. The menu sounded delicious, but the food did not quite live up to the descriptions; nothing bad, just fairly nondescript. Service was also average, nothing horrible but it's the small things like waiting a while for the bottle of wine we ordered, and the water glasses never being refilled. While I'm sure they get busy when The Bushnell has a performance, it's not an unusual occurrence. Location is perfect, I hope the next visit is more favorable.
Had a coupon that, in the fine print read, "dine in only, not valid on Vito's to-go or pizza menu". I mistakenly thought the pizza menu was different from the lunch menu. But when I started to order a pizza off the lunch menu, our server said it would not be included in the coupon. The vegetarian in our group had to find something other than pizza and settled for the Panini with seasonal vegetables (she did not order the eggplant Panini as she doesn't like eggplant). Apparently the seasonal vegetables included eggplant. When she removed the eggplant she was left with bread, a slice of tomato, and two pieces of summer squash. Very disappointing. The other, non-pizza, food we order was excellent... the special pasta dishes and lobster ravioli. Food was served at the proper temperature and a good sized portion.
Service was excellent. Although busy, our food was served promptly and the six of us could carry on a conversation without shouting or straining to hear each other. The food was enjoyed by all - salads, Panini's, pizza, and pasta special. I would definitely come back to try other items.
We were surprised that this gem of a restaurant wasn't packed for dinner on a Wednesday evening, as the menu is outstanding and the food is absolutely delicious. Our server was so friendly and the service was great. We had the scallops and shrimp over linguine in a sauce that was so good!
For brunch it was only us and a large party in the restaurant and we were seated right next to them it was uncomfortable when they got quite for a speech it felt like we had to be silent as well. My eggs were under cooked. Not just runny, not cooked. Wouldn't go bacl
The food was great. The portions were way too small. I had a coupon for half price on all entrees and I felt I got half of a meal as well. But this is a great Italian restaurant. I would definitely go back and get something different next time. It looked like the portion sizes on other entrees were normal size/were filling. I guess the Lobster ravioli just comes in a smaller serving size.
My husband and I had our very first date here. The food has gone downhill since then. The sangrias were terrible. The mushroom goat cheese torte was rubbery-like it had been 'nuked' too long in the microwave. The fired calamari was chewy. The pear gnocchi was paired with peas and way to sweet. The short ribs were amazing. The limoncello tiramisu may have been delicious if it didn't taste like it had sat in a refrigerator all week uncovered. The server was fantastic but he didn't make up for the terrible food.
I had better experiences in Vito's by the Park. The service was poor and slow. The wine served was the wrong one and the waiter couldn't understand the difference between red and white wine!
I ordered the house recommended Pappardelle Bolognese was overcooked, cold and stuck. It was very disappointed. I ordered this pasta before having a good experience, but the quality is going down and it's not worthy for the money.
A friend and I had a great experience right before a Bushnell show. Friday night, not many people there, and Happy Hour food was excellent and economical. Since we shared our appetizers, we had a big variety, no drinks, and our tab was $20! They even brought us out a free pizza no one wanted!
I was eager to go there for Mother's day, which my family treated me to for dinner. Totally different experience. Very crowded, it took a long time to get service. My husband's Veal Shank was not very fatty, not very meaty. I ordered a chicken dish, and think they gave me something else. Considering we paid $100 for a good meal, we were very disappointed in the service, the food, and the atmosphere.
There were 3 women at the table next to us, with three kids. All were on their iphones, and barely paid attention to one another. Is this fine-dining? But that's another conversation for another day.
When we left, I went to shake the greeters hand for a nice meal, and she refused to give me her hand. I thought that was very rude, which encouraged my bad impression.
Our son graduated from college on Sunday, our reservation timing, early dinner, worked out, we missed the Mother's day crowds.
Our choice of Vito's by the Park also worked out. We had a party of eight, and I thought we had the best table in the restaurant. The service and food was outstanding. The whole experience was top rate. I highly recommend this restaurant.
We came to Vito's to celebrate a college graduation, on a Saturday, mid-day. The ambiance, the service and the food were magnificent. Our waitress, Jennifer was superb and the chef went out of his way to accommodate a couple of special requests. Every meal ordered was outstanding, thank you!!!
My daughter and I ate at Vito’s prior to seeing “Matilda the Musical” at the Bushnell. Vito’s is my fourteen year old’s favorite restaurant. She loves the Fiocchi pasta and cannoli! We were dressed up and the waiter treated her like a sophisticated adult. The food was great, the waiter was terrific and we had a very memorable father-daughter dinner. We will definitely come back.
Vito's is always high quality consistent in it's food. Being in it's downtown location it is easy walking distance to Bushnell and XL Center events as well as smaller theaters. Best to park at the event venue and walk over. Very nice appointments and atmosphere but bar noise can sometimes spill over into the dining room so plan your seating if you can.
