Violino Gastronomia Italiana
Violino has the reputation as being one of the most respected and influential Italian restaurant in Edmonton.
The welcoming atmosphere and the sophisticated cuisine steeped in the rich tradition of Italian food culture, refined Violino as an authentic Italian restaurant.
Violino specializes in the rich food and wine culture from Italian Peninsula, creating refined but unfussy food served in a lively intimate atmosphere accompanied with a comprehensive wine list.
Our hostess was very kind. We told her we hadn't seen each other for months & were celebrating our July birthdays. We had a lovely, quiet dining experience from 11:30 until 3!! Beautiful patio & great food!!
Mediocre at best. Over-stuffed ambiance. Probably the most marginal negroni I have had in my life. North Americanized Italian food.
I am a return customer and I have always lived this place. My guest that came with it was their 1st time and like myself they will return. We asked for a quieter/private seat and they accompanied us with 2 choices both the host and management. While we were there, they made a point of seating guests further away from us as well which I found very co sideration and going that extra little bit. Food is fabulous as always.
We had such a wonderful anniversary celebration here. First time and will definitely be back! Amazing service, food and ambiance.
My mom was in town from Manitoba! They made the entire evening wonderful!
We love Violino’s so decided to make reservations that afternoon. Last time around, my friend ordered the lamb and it was my turn this time. I wasn’t disappointed. Tender and flavourful. My wife had the Chicken Florentine and also loved it. Our server was attentive and friendly as usual. One minor irritant was the noise level. A couple of large tables arrived that had been drinking before their arrival which made it hard to talk, but we’ll keep going back.
They served the main dish while we were still eating the starter. Main dish was cold so probably it had been prepared while we were eating the starter, which they had expected us to finish earlier. Apparently, they have no idea that rush is the worst thing you want, when going for a dinner with a beloved one. Bad planning and bad service for such a pricy restaurant. Pity!
Decent service, definitely no bang for the buck. Too expensive for less than mediocre food and small portions. Would not go back would not recommend.
Lovely place to go for a leisurely Father's Day dinner.
Great patio excellent quality food.
Our meal at Violino was overall very enjoyable. The ambiance of the room is very pleasant, background noise/music was subdued, service was very friendly if a little leisurely and the food was well-prepared and presented. The menu is interesting and offers plenty of variety within the Italian theme.
Great authentic Italian food served in beautiful old house. Share the Placcatore Freddo (various meats, cheeses, grilled vegetables etc) as an appetizer for the whole table (we were a table of 7) along with the Bruschetta. The menu is full of excellent choices but it was difficult for us to not order from the daily specials. The service was excellent. We'll be back.
The ambience and the quality of the service were excellent.
We were very impressed with the menu and the quality of the food.
Extras like asking about the “occasion” and helping us with our celebration really showed the service orientation.
We are already recommending this restaurant to our friends.
Our new favorite Edmonton Italian restaurant.
Excellent meal and service as always. My wife and I consider this our favourite place for dining.
There are many GREAT Italian restaurants in Edmonton, unfortunately, Violino Gastronomia Italiana is not one of them. I ordered the beef tenderloin to be served a piece of meat I had to wrestle with. There was nothing outstanding with the bruschetta or my Caesar salad as I can make better at home. As for dessert, when I order a Chocolate Mousse, I expect a Chocolate Mousse. What I received was vanilla or sweet, white mousse with a squirt of chocolate in it. Sorry, but I won't be back.
I have gone to this restaurant for 5 years, it is our designated anniversary spot and always have the same dish with the same great taste.
We have been going to Violino for several years now, typically on special occasions and some business meetings.
Has always been our favourite restaurant in Edmonton. We recently booked for our daughters 18th Birthday and was left a little disappointed. Previously has always been outstanding food and ambience and felt like a genuine Italian experience, this visit we noticed the front of house and serving staff to be different, not Italian. Serving staff seemed uneducated on the menu and unwilling or uninterested to help. My wife ordered a half bottle of her favourite wine which was brought to the table in a decanter, we did not see the bottle or the cork. I thought the restaurant had new owners until I recognized the owner/manager from previous visits. Food was mediocre, not what we had experienced previously. Violino always seemed worth the high prices, however this last visit left me feeling I could have gone somewhere else for half the cost and had an equally as good meal. The outside of the building is also looking very tired and run down, all points to financial difficulties from what we experienced.
Such a shame, we loved this place, not sure I will be back
Great place for lunch with a friend - never rushed.
The food was good. Towards the end of the meal, it felt like we were forgotten. Our server disappeared. It took effort from us to get a dessert menu. We waited nearly 30 minutes before we got staff’s attention to get our bill. That part was disappointing.
Good portion and quality nicely prepared and presented. A little too much sauce on both our selections. Attentive service.
One of our favourite restaurants. Food is always delicious and with the extensive menu and daily choices there is always an interesting option to try. Wonderful to be able to carry on a conversation with your dinner companion in a normal speaking voice. The service is excellent without always interrupting your meal.
My friend and I had a wonderful dinner. Our server was fantastic. We started with a cocktail followed by wine, dinner and dessert. I had the linguini which was delicious and my friend had the ravioli which she also greatly enjoyed almost as much as the tiramisu!
First time at this restaurant and it was absolutely delicious, one of the best tenderloins I have had. Went for Mother’s Day 5 course brunch at $65. Excellent value, my only comment is that it was a fixed automatic 18% gratuity and we were a table of 2. I have read other news articles complaining about fixed gratuity but this is usually for large groups.
Our first time there and for such a special occasion. Mother's day. The setting was great. Upon arrival my wife received a single rose before being taken to our table. The hostess was very professional. The 5 course meal was phenomenal. We were seated upstairs. So romantic and quaint. It appears to be newly renovated, not sure but they have kept the original windows and added a touch of modern to the walls with marble I believe. I feel our waitress could've been a bit more friendly and personable. Not sure if the language barrier was maybe what made her come across stern and lacking conversational warmth but I feel that stood our for us considering where we were. Overall very pleased though. Prices were fair for the 5 course meal for sure. I feel the 18% gratuity was a fail based on the service received though.
I celebrated my birthday with my 3 closest friends and we really enjoyed our time at the restaurant. Our waiter was fantastic and the food was delicious.
One of best spots in the city to entertain. You will not be disappointed. It has it all character, old world charm, and service is outstanding.
We will definitely entertain the patio next time.
Violino is a great place for delicious Italian food. Prices are fairly high.
Thank you for the quiet ambience you create at your restaurant. This is one of the few restaurants in Edmonton where a group can easily visit over a delicious meal and not have to compete with either loud music or loud surroundings. You are our go-to restaurant
Service from Jesser was fantastic, very friendly, personal and knowledgable. Made our evening special with a birthday surprise for my wife, and the food was amazing. Will definitely be back.
Excellent service. The ambiance might be improved with some music in the background; it is so quiet
Amazing service, AMAZING FOOD! Definite must try!
Excellent all around from atmosphere to Jesser our waiter; great food and ambiance!
It has been a number of years since I have been to Violino. Happy to say the service is still excellent and the food was amazing. There were four people in our group and everyone noted how much they enjoyed the evening.
Very enjoyable evening with friends. Staff and kitchen do an amazing job that elevates the dining experience to a highly personal level.
Outstanding. We look forward to our next occasion.
Very very nice restaurant, the male waiter was very professional very friendly!
Good price great food, definitely will go back!
It is located in a old house remodeled into a restaurant setting. Lots of character, tables are spacious and spread out, very quiet and upscale. An easy three hour evening, great for romance, anniversary or special celebration. The menu has a varied select for any pallet. Dishes were plentiful and very tasteful. The service lacked the night we went, only the one waiter which held up drinks and food courses it seemed like. The drinks come in standard bar glasses but tasteful. Overall it was really good.
Great food. Great service.
We had the cheese wheel and the black and white pasta with prawns and both dishes were very delicious and totally worth the money. Our server was very nice and polite. All in all we had very enjoyable time .
Delicious pasta dishes!
