  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
Located in the heart of Boston's North End neighborhood, VINOTECA di MONICA serves Rustic Regional Italian cuisine and Wine Spectator’s Grand Award for one of the largest Selections of Italian wines in the city.

You no longer need to travel to Italy to experience the marriage between regional Italian food and wine. The menu focuses on the preservation of traditional regional dishes, with an unpretentious dedication to the true flavors that make regional Italian cuisine so popular.

The art of pasta and bread making are carried out daily, for your sampling, where the freshest ingredients is an everyday affair. VINOTECA di MONICA is the result of Monica’s Restaurant evolution and our passion for the Italian culture and the big role food and wine plays in its preservation.

The food was very good. The service and the attitude however was very poor. They close at 10:00 and my husband went to pick up the car so we won’t all have to walk and we were told to “Clear Out” even though they knew my husband will be back in 5-10 min so my friend and I had to wait on the cold street. Very unkind attitude.

I was expecting much better based on the reviews. Service was extremely slow and not attentive at all. Took a half hour to get some water. An iced tea that was empty was taken away rather than refilled. There are two doors to the outside with a vestibule. The outer door was held open by a rope so that whenever the inner door was opened, the cold night air blasted in. We had a variety of salads, calamari, pappardelle with ragout and scallops/shrimp fra diavolo. Nothing was remarkable. All very average. The cocktail and wine were good. The restaurant was not very clean at all and I had the unfortunate experience of seeing the kitchen after exiting the dirty bathroom. It was disgusting. It was also expensive. A dish of ice cream was $14. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place.

While tremendous variety of pastas, all dishes were just alright qualty-wise with the biggest problem being overly salty. All dishes should be priced about 20-25% less.

Had a 7pm reservation, didn’t sit until 8pm, didn’t eat until 945pm. It was honestly pretty ridiculous. I know it wasn’t the servers fault since the kitchen was backed up but they didn’t even try to make it ok. They avoided us the whole 1.5 hours we were waiting for our food and didn’t offer to comp even one of the FOUR rounds of drinks that we ordered while we were waiting. They’ve lost my business.

Vinotecca De Monica stands on par with some of The North End’s best destinations. We were a party of 5 on a Saturday night. Tables are a little tight as the space isn’t particularly large. For appetizers we shared a fantastic caprese salad and I wanted to try the eggplant parm. The eggplant parm was very good, but was hijacked by my son who polished it off while raving about the sauce. I ordered a veal Milanese which was very good although nothing special or memorable. The others ordered various pasta dishes; everyone was thrilled with their choices. My son ordered the lobster ravioli, which was truly outstanding! My wife had a really good cappellini con gamberi, and my daughter was still talking about her butternut squash raviolis 2 days later. If I had to pick one slight negative; when we inquired we were told the restaurant does not make any modifications to their dishes. (My wife originally wanted to order the shrimp and scallops fra diavolo but without scallops). Surprised they wouldn’t honor that request. It wasn’t that big of a deal for our group; but it could be frustrating for someone who is a picky eater
