Vin de Set

We went here for our 1st Anniversary! It was delicious and they even gave us a free dessert to celebrate! The only thing I would say is, at times, they seemed a little understaffed due to having to wait for our waiter or someone to come by in order to ask for bread or another drink. But the food and ambiance was amazing!
We've eaten at Vin De Set many times, and always enjoyed the experience. However, this trip the menu changed, taking our favorites off the menu and replacing with items, that were not as enticing. We returned our crepes because something in the crepe was burnt / bitter. We then got our main course and it too was burnt / bitter. We would be hard pressed to return due to the quality of the food.
We enjoyed the experience overall. Our food and drinks were good. The only flaw was that we arrived about 15 minutes early and were seated at the bar until our table was available. About 30 minutes after our reservation, we were told our table was "ready". We decided to stay at he bar.
Dinner with friends on Friday evening. Very good meal as well the service. Waiter was great...funny too! Our 3rd time at Vin de Set. Will be back!
We went for our anniversary dinner after reading mixed reviews and deciding it was worth taking a chance. We had a lovely dinner in spite of a few things that put us off. We made reservations and did not have to wait. We were seated with a great view of the city and given a complimentary glass of champagne. We both ordered specials mine was a filet over mashed potatoes with asparagus. It came out lukewarm as if it had all been prepared earlier and then plated but not kept very warm. None of it was bad but not excellent. My husband had the tuna and his was a good temp but just not mind blowing at all. I will say the appetizers of crab bengiets were GREAT! Best thing we ate there. I ordered a drink and never received till after the check was brought and I told her not to worry about the drink and right after, someone brought it to me... our waitress seemed confused and distracted the entire time. I wouldn’t give it another try based on the experience and 100 tab.
I expected more, especially from the food. The Chateaubriand was delicious, though a bit salty in places, but the asparagus and mashed potatoes were only lukewarm and had no flavor. The profiteroles were tiny ; one was burnt, and I couldn't distinguish among the flavors. Years ago I had much better meals here, so I was doubly disappointed. Expensive, hyped, but once past the hype, it's not good value.
This restaurant suited our needs perfectly as we entertained an out of town visitor. The conversation level was perfect. We loved looking at the new wheel . Would like larger windows for wintertime dining.
Though Vin de Set has been a favorite for a while, I have found that it is a great place to stop on the way to a show at the Fox. Easy in and out, great food and ambiance at the bar. Easy trip to the Fox. Option to drink on HH prices (prior to showtimes), but still order for the regular menu as an option. We'll be making it a regular stop for this season!
The rooftop bar is pretty awesome, but the dinner experience fell a little short. The food was OK. The frites are great -- top notch. The rest of the meal was delicious but unexceptional. The escargot and the steak were on the warm side rather than hot. Most surprisingly, the wine list was limited and pretty unimpressive. I expected more. I would definitely go back for a drink or a light nosh, but I'm not in a hurry to head back for dinner.
Excellent gem. Food and service was extraordinary. Everyone should give this place a try.
We had a wonderful time, great server, great food and loved the ambiance. It was perfect until I just read now, checking the brunch menu, that you serve rabbit. Therefore I probably will not be back. This is Unfortunate because I loved our time and meal.
We had a wonderful anniversary dinner. The staff even started off by greeting us "Happy Anniversary" and mentioned it several times throughout the night! Our server, Charles, was very professional and charming, giving excellent detailed menu recommendations and making interesting conversation. He was not in a rush yet was very efficient. I was floored by the unexpected hospitality by everyone that made us feel comfortable and also elevated the occasion. The ambience was very romantic, and the food prices were not over the top. We ordered a mushroom crepe and the sea bass, and both were excellent. They have a nice selection of cheeses for the cheese course and it lovely presentation with olives, grapes, and two chutneys. I thought the cocktails and wine were pretty good, though not the best in the city. We would love to come back and try more appetizers and desserts since they all looked fantastic. I don't think you can go wrong ordering anything. They also said they change the menu about 6 times a year which is really neat!
While I was sad it was raining and I wasn’t able to sit outside, I enjoyed the indoor seating. It was comfortable and cozy and I enjoyed the inside seating. The food was delicious and prepared perfectly. I tried the lamb and the onion soup, and it was delicious! My party had the ratatouille ravioli, and the sauce was divine!
We are so eager to visit again soon.
Quality from start to finish. Wonderful atmosphere, excellent food and friendly employees. This is a very classy place that you can relax and enjoy an evening. The cocktails are first rate.
My wife and I enjoy an occasional date night at Vin de Set. Never disappoints!
Thanks. Very nice evening.
Great food and service.
We took the fixed prize menu thinking that would be almost the same as ordering from the menu but a bit more worth it. It turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. The first course was really good, escargot and shrimp crepe, really good, and felt like it was cooked in the moment. The second was the ratatouille ravioli, which was soaked in sauce, pasta was mushed and overcooked, and honestly felt like cafeteria food. The other main dish was salmon, which was really good, although the lentils felt like they had been reheated in the microwave. As a dessert we got the chocolate brownie, which was good but a bit too sweet for my liking. Next time we'll have to try to order from the menu straight.
Overall, a very good experience. Our waitress was nice and very pleasant. But, she could have been a tad more attentive during and after our meal. She may have just been a little tasked.
Great brunch buffet, bloddy mary bar and bottomless mimosas. Food and service were outstanding. I was disappointed that the outdoor section of the balcony was not open. The closed off portion of the balcony felt like a SAUNA. It was a hot box with the sun beating down on you and now fans, open windows, or air circulation. We actually had to be asked to be moved indoors. I understand closing off the roof during winter months, but the space should still be comfortable.
We were in the back room which does not have the ambience of the other indoor space. Our server was not attentive or very interested in us. She rattled off the specials so she could get on with things, not entice us into ordering any. I had to leave the table to get her so we could order. There was a birthday person. I told the server ahead of time which one it was. The server comes out with the dessert and asks around to see who the birthday person was. Kind of wrecked the mood. The final straw was the dirty spoon given us to share the dessert.
The food was excellent!
I have come to Vin de Set many times. I have never had a bad meal or bad service. Both have always been excellent. Perhaps it was a very busy night. Perhaps it is the room tucked away out of sight. I just was embarrassed as it was my suggestion to all my friends.
I will come back but I will not eat in that room.
I did speak to the manager on duty that night.
Have never been this disappointed in a restaurant in my life.
The food was literally spoiled and they served it anyway.
The service was slow though our waitress was very busy.
The kitchen must be a disaster.
Couldn’t get out fast enough.
Night out with my sisters-in-law and wife to the Fox Theatre and then to Vin de Set. Fabulous food as always and Charles is such a wonderful server!
Visited a number of times over the years. Excellent selection of seafood and steaks. Thursday evenings generally brings out seafood specials. Drink selection and prices always reasonable. And, there’s that rooftop view.
The brunch was excellent....so many delicious choices and a great price as well.....
Eating on the beautiful outdoor deck on a perfect fall evening was fantastic. Great food, cocktails and service. A+
Wow, I’m so disappointed. This used to be a really high quality restaurant but it has really slipped. The food was mediocre at best and the service just ok. It seems like the Hamilton’s have over extended themselves and instead of doing a few things well, they are doing a lot of things just ok. I’m sorry to see it change like this, but there are much better choices in the neighborhood now like Bellwether or Indo.
We sat in a “U” shaped booth in the bar, it was a very nice feel, charming, and the music was French. The patio was cute, complete with hanging lights but too windy of an evening for me to eat outside. The bartender waited on us, he was nice, but obviously busy with fulfilling table orders.
The escargot was wonderful, 5 stars! I ordered the Sea Bass was okay, surrounded by very mild flavors, 3.5 starts —it was cooked perfectly. The brandy peppercorn filet we ordered was very nontraditional, only earning 3 stars.
The different cocktails we ordered were good, giving them all together 4 stars.
We had a wonderful time on the rooftop! Dinner was delicious, service was impeccable! Can't wait to go back!
Lovely night on the rooftop deck. Try the spicy crab beignets.
We had reservations and got seated right away. Our waitress was great and took our order quickly. Food came in a reasonable amount of time, but then we waited forever to get a bill at the end of the meal.
The server was not friendly nor was she attentive.
Everything was fantastic except for the noise from the wedding party that was having an event on the same roof. Not a total dealbreaker for us but we where expecting a more quite and intimate setting.
Live and you learn and the noise is not enough to keep us from coming back.
We look forward to going with a group next time.
Our server Ben was aces as well as our hostess and bussers.
We sat outside on the roodtop patio and it was quite lovely. The food was delicious and portion was generous. I liked the French onion soup (it wasn't overly salty & oily like other ones I'm used to) and baked brie was a delight. The tarragon aioli came with the fries was a bit odd to me & I'm usually a huge fan of aioli. The service was pleasant.
We celebrated our 34th anniversary at Vin de Set--our first time there. Though the weather did not cooperate for us to enjoy dining on the outdoor deck, we were given a lovely table for 2 inside overlooking the bar area. Charles, our server, was personable and very attentive. My only (slight) complaint was that the vinaigrette dressing on my luscious Berry Salad had very little vinegar in it--it was too bland. But our entrees (salmon and chicken) were decently portioned and delectably prepared. Charles even gave us a staff-signed card for our anniversary, along with a Creme Brulee dessert that was to die for. I also loved the authentic French music/songs played over the sound system. The whole experience was very French, which I loved. We can't afford to eat here more than once a year, but it was a real treat for us to enjoy this restaurant on our anniversary.
The best meal of our weekend in St. Louis! Highly recommend! We ate on a beautiful rooftop with a view of The Arch. Scallop & Bacon appetizer was outstanding, I wish we had ordered two. The Arctic Char for me and Walleye for hubby were delicious and perfectly cooked. Berry creme brûlée for dessert, wonderful handcrafted cocktails, fine wine and after dinner drinks rounded out a perfect meal. Our lovely waitress gave us pointers are what to visit during our stay.
we greatly enjoyed sitting roof top, nice breeze, good view, the staff was excellent, food was excellent as well. I recommended it to my friends at the conference.
Food was excellent! We particularly enjoyed the sea bass and the cheesecake. Our server was very efficient and unobtrusive which suited us well. We sat on the post which provided for a lovely view and a romantic atmosphere. Would definitely recommend!
Service was awful! Food and ambiance could have saved the day but the service tanked the night.
