I go to dinner here at least once a month. Food and service are top notch. I like the comfortable yet classy ambiance too. It’s a place that we bring our favorite visitors to and each remarks how much they enjoyed it too!
The warm, friendly greeting by the bartender, who came over to my daughter and me when we entered, was unexpected and put us at ease. We sat at the bar, awaiting a table, talking and laughing with him, a delightful, genuinely warm man. The drinks were excellent. Our table seating was just right for two, warm, friendly service by a great waiter, delicious food and dessert was memorable.
Venticello is a remarkable restaurant. Its upscale Italian cuisine is gourmet quality with both classic and creative dishes perfectly prepared. The staff will exceed your expectations and I expect that you will return time and time again. Further, its location on Nob Hill makes it a nice walk from the great hotels!
Don't miss it!
Superb meal - best gnocchi ever - very friendly staff -
neighborhood charm / building
Cable car stop right by - a gem of a place in SF !
Good, but not as good as it used to be.
Absolutely fabulous experience! Great food and service. Will definitely be back:-)
Service was great, food was great. Had a wonderful evening highly recommend this place.
Nice ambiance. Good wine list. Hasty waiter but the service was good enough. Warm interior with a wood burning oven behind the bar. We will go back.
The staff was lovely and accommodating. The food was delicious. I enjoyed some of the best short ribs I have ever had. They surprised us with their homemade Tiramasu which is not to be missed. Eggplant parm appetizer had me eating the sauce like a soup. Highly recommended!
This is a little gem. We had a nice window table, great service, good wine and food...can’t miss.
This is one of our favorite restaurants in San Francisco. I always feel like I am eating in a neighborhood Italian place in Boston or New York. Consistently well-prepared classics in a pleasant, comfortable space.
Excellent service. Grilled prawns were very tasty but sauce just so so. Lamb was delicious. I plan to return and try other items on the menu.
The gnochi was very disappointing, pizza could have used more basil. Some of the pasta dishes were hot, some warm.
Venticello is an old standby that continues to put out consistently good food at very fair prices. The selections are rather limited ( 3 pizzas, and a handful of entrees and pastas) but there is enough variety that most folks should be able to find what they are looking for. Everything that we had was good -some better than others. The mixed green salad was good(nothing special) but unfortunately the margherita pizza really missed the mark( lots of cheese and not much sauce. It reminded us of pizza that you might find at a fair or festival. Both of our pastas (gnocchi made from ricotta( and a gorgonzola cream sauce were excellent however. Service was excellent with jenny very attentive and everyone else pitching in to make the evening very nice.
This a an adorable neighborhood restaurant and the food is very good. We liked the Italian wines. The dining experience could be enhanced by placing the tables farther apart so the noise level would be lower. We had a difficult time hearing each other talk.
Cozy space in Nob Hill. Small bar area where you can also eat. Brick oven baking. Home made pasta. Creative bolognese sauce with pork cheek instead of pancetta. Easy walk from Fairmont hotel in safe upscale neighboorhood.
The food was good. Waiter not very attentive. Took forever to just get our first drink. Down hill from there.
Homemade pasta done perfectly. I swear they are hiding an elderly Italian grandma in the back as I can’t imagine anyone else putting out dishes this good. A great value with exceptional quality. Would highly recommend.
Loved the ambiance and service here. Food was really good, but not AMAZING. Great bread.
We live in the neighborhood and Vinticello is our "go to" restaurant for out of town guests, business dinners or an early Sunday dinner. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. The food is authentic Italian. The special was homemade Paparedelle with shrimp, lemon, garlic and cherry tomatoes...so delicious! The strawberry rhubarb tart with vanilla gelato was to die for.
Great location and the food was great- very quaint and nice atmosphere, I will definitely go back again - try the braised beef short ribs!
Arancini balls to start, followed by braised short ribs and spaghetti carbonara, finished with salted caramel gelato and complimentary tiramisu for my wife's birthday. Excellent wine pairings suggested by our waitress, and we never felt rushed throughout the meal. Space is a little tight -- don't plan a breakup date here!
Went here on our first date and the food was great, Italian cuisine. The ambiance was just right and it was very clean inside. It has two floors and a nice, cozy bar wall. Definitely recommend for dates. Our server wasn't as energetic as we would have liked, but I was pretty satisfied w/ this place.
Everything was great from start to finish. We started with an amazing Octopus carpaccio. Beautiful and tender. Both our entree’s exceeded expectations. Wonderful experience. I can’t wait to go back!!!!
Warm atmosphere; charming room. Food is well-prepared. Portions are just right--not overwhelming and not too small. Wine good. Service warm and efficient.
Best gnocchi I have ever eaten, in a creamy white/mushroomy sauce. Great wine selection. Top of the line wait staff.
Home run on the food. Gnocci were to die for....Pork chop was cooked just as ordered and the cabbage and apples under were great....the sauce on the pork chop was fabulous. Great wine value. Will b e back
2nd visit in 3 months & thoroughly enjoyed both times! Food is wonderful, service is great & totally love the atmosphere. Will most definitely return again!
Spaghetti Carbonara, homemade gnocchi and the short rib were outstanding! Personal size Margarita pie was a little too bland.
Service was just okay however it appeared they were short staffed and our server was trying to take care of too many tables.
The most notable memory of our dining experience was how exceptional hot it was in the restaurant. Half way through the meal we took our sweaters off down to our undergarments. We
were perspiring. Towards the end of the meal we finally said something and the server opened the door which gave us a bit of relief but the next person in closed the door.
With all that said we would return if beforehand we could confirm it wouldn’t be so hot.
Very nice traditional Italian restaurant. Very small, but nice and cozy interior. Truly excellent food and menu choices. Attentive and professional waiter. The sort of place I would dine at once a week if I lived in San Francisco. Will return on my next trip.
I’ve been dining here for 20 years and the food standards have always been excellent and better. Lovely atmosphere and views.
We done at Venticello every time we visit San Francisco.
First impression was positive as we were greeted by the hostess and seated at a nice table for two. The experience quickly eroded when our disinterested waiter arrived to tell us about the soup of the day, one special, no ribeye ending with “that’s it” The homemade meatballs were over cooked dry lumps of hamburger and prepared in a crock of tomato sauce that completely covered the meatballs. I had to stir the spoon around to find them. The minestrone was bland. The Fettuccine was good but the portion was average at best. It could have been an off night.
Ambience very quiet and romantic. Food very good. Caesar salad perfect. I loved my meatballs & my husband loved his pasta marinara. Will definitely go back.
I first ate at Venticello's 22 years ago and loved it. The food is great and the atmosphere is cozy and warm. I moved away from San Francisco about a year later, but I had such fond memories of the place that when I was in town recently on business, I sought them out. I was happy to see that they were still in business and the food and the ambience had not changed. They are in a residential neighborhood located at the top of a hill, and from the entrance (and a few of the window tables) you can see the Bay Bridge, which is currently lit up with a cool light installation. I definitely recommend this restaurant to couples seeking a romantic restaurant or to anyone who wants a great meal in a warm and cozy environment.
Excellent food, excellent service, beautiful neighborhood.
Very nice local spot. Small and cozy, food was very good. Menu a bit limited, but we enjoyed our meals and would definitely go back.
Wonderful experience. Nice ambiance, great food and wine. The restaurant was lively ( a little loud) but that is to be expected at a busy restaurant.
Great ambience, food, very crowded, busy, service a little slow probably due to how busy it was.. highly recommend
Great restaurant. Super cozy and the staff was really nice. The food was delicious! Their pasta was perfectly seasoned and cocked al dente. Their tiramisu is a killer. Amazing spot for a romantic dinner.
