Recognized as one of the most romantic restaurants in San Francisco, we are located just a few blocks away from the historical Mark Hopkins and Fairmont Hotels, as well as walking distance from the Huntington Hotel, The Stanford Court, and the Ritz- Carlton Hotel.
As you walk into Venticello, you will enter our upstairs area. Our full and complete wooden bar is supplied with an array of distilled spirits as well as some of the finest Italian and Californian wines. This allows you and your guests to enjoy a variety of beverages while hearing the Cable Car bell ring just outside our front door.
Venticello, meaning soft breeze, will sweep you and your guests away with an unforgettable experience.
It us always packed and always great. They have an excellent and interesting wine list- exceptional salads and italian dishes. Next time I will try the pizza from the great brick oven!
This restaurant was recommended by a friend. The experience was rather disappointing for me. I expected everything to be a notch higher--the food, the service, the ambiance.
Enjoyed our first visit to Venticello in SF. We were able to easily walk to the restaurant from our location at Powell & Pine Streets. Food was good and wine was reasonably priced. Noise level was quite acceptable until a table of 8 golfing buddies arrived and it turned into a sports bar - way loud, cursing & we quickly finished our meals and left. Will probably return.
This restaurant is a neighborhood gem. The food is very good, the staff is so warm and accommodating and the restaurant is small and charming. Love it!
The staff was friendly and interesting. The dining experience was amazing. We highly recommend this restaurant.
The food was pretty good, but the ambiance was somehow lacking. Just didn’t have an upbeat feel at all.
This is our second time in SF and also our second time in Venticello. First time was about 10 years ago and surprisingly they still serve some good food in this place. Our waiter was a bit unfriendly but the food was good. Beet salad and black pasta were very delicious. Will come back again.
Food and service was terrific. We found this place by sheer luck while traveling. It's a hidden gem.
We all have a favorite Italian restaurant. Whatever it is for you, have dinner at Venticello and you'll have a new number one. Service, atmosphere, food...all of it was impeccable.
Quaint spot for well executed Italian inspired dishes. Beautiful salads, homemade pasta, delicious pork chop, reasonably priced Italian reds. Couldn’t ask for anything more!
We'll be back! Drove from Los Gatos for a concert at the Masonic and Venticello was one of the restaurants within easy walking distance. What a find! We ordered the prawn appetizer, my husband ordered the pork chop and I ordered the flank steak. The food was so well prepared and delicious!! The service was wonderful, and we loved the cozy ambiance. It was the perfect spot for a date night/anniversary and our waiter gave us a complimentary Tiramasu dessert to boot. We will be back!!
It was an excellent dining experience. I have recommended to my colleagues from the Ritz Carlton.
Christian our waiter was incredible and the host at the front door was very friendly. Food is excellent and we will be back in the near future.
Excellent food with great service and incredible neighborhood atmosphere.
Food is always good, but the menu could use a bit of a refresh. Same items for 2 years.
Food very good and reasonable. Will go again when we are in town again
A favorite restaurant for many years with consistently good food and service.
One of San Francisco best established places to dine. Excellent food selection and best comfort food for the price. A must every time we visit or vacation in San Francisco.
The food was great. A little high priced. The pompous attitude of the waitstaff was off-putting.
We ate at Venticello prior to a night at the theater. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The food was wonderful (perfect portions and very tasty). Watch out for the hills around (your walk to or from the car could be intense). The decor is very European, which I like. The host and server were very friendly. You won't be disappointed with your meal here.
I had the lamb, and my wife had the orecette pasta, food and wine were great
We have dined here before and love it. The ambiance and the service are wonderful. The food is always exceptional. They made my husbands birthday weekend end on a high note. It was a delightful dinner. Thank you!!!
Great feeling, wonderful staff, very attentive. We were slow deciding (it all looked so good - including the special not on the menu), and the waiters were very helpful.
Our second time time there. Always the best service and delicious food. The wait staff is so helpful and attentive, and we love their wine recommendations. I had the spaghetti vongole and my husband had the roast chicken. Delicious!
The food was very good; the service was terrible.
The water glasses were not refilled until we had finished our main course even though one person was only drinking water. The other person was drinking wine by the glass. He had a glass of white wine and a glass of red wine with the main course. If the server had returned to the table after the main courses were served, he would have ordered a second glass of red wine.
The first course was a shared order of meatballs. There were no plates provided so we ate them on our bread plates. The person who cleared the first course dishes stacked the dirty dishes on the table before removing them. When he cleared a nearby table, he put the napkin on the dirty pizza plate with the bread basket on top.
The linguini with clams was served without a plate for the clam shells.
Our server was apathetic when he finally returned with dessert menus and we expressed our disappointment in the service.
I've been a member of OpenTable for several years and this is the worst service I've received at any restaurant.
A quiet, pleasant and nice experience. The staff was also equal to the food. We will return simply because it is a slice of SF of old that is becoming ever smaller in size.
Despite having a standing room only crowd, the team, including Daniel, were welcoming. The menu has traditional favorites and a few unique offerings like octopus carpaccio. The wine list was interesting and well priced. I recommend the meatballs as a special of the house. Also, the sparkling wine from Lombardy was a nice surprise. Make reservations--it is a small restaurant but worth the visit.
We arrived on time to our reservation and we were seated immediately. The restaurant is noticeably loud and we couldn't hear each other talk. My son was told to take his baseball cap off which seemed like an odd request but he complied. The food was average at best. My daughter's pizza was dry and nearly inedible. My rack of lamb was ok but nothing remarkable. The other two pasta dishes that the others had were unremarkable as well. Despite being in the middle of the room I felt like we were overlooked from a service perspective. I was served a second glass of wine and the first glass wasn't removed despite being empty. Our dishes, when we were done eating, were left on the table for a longer time that I would have expected especially watching the service of the other tables. I had to ask for a dessert menu while the dishes were on the table. I don't know if the service was poor because they were busy or if it was because I walked in with three teenagers. We eat out often all over the world and they are always have great behavior. Nonetheless, it was a disappointing dining experience.
Amazing dining experience!! Incredible food, fantastic service, and great wine list. It can be a bit noisy as it is a smaller restaurant, so we simply turned that to our advantage and got closer over the table to talk!! Don’t miss this neighborhood gem, and do make reservations.
Having lived in Italy, we can happily report this is quality Italian food. Be sure to ponder the daily specials for your dining selection.
Great dinner before the concert at the Masonic. Gluten free pasta was very good.
A gem that we would not have found if we had not been advised by a relative to go there. A really nice restaurant with attentive waitors and really good food and wine. Venticello should do something about the noise level though. At times it was almost impossible to keep the conversation going because of the noise. But otherwise - exellent@
Everything was very average. Expected a little more. However, service was good!
Everything had was ok. My friend had the porchetta, I had pasta puttanesca..both were good. Appetizer of meatballs and salads we not really notable. Pricey for an very average experience. My cocktail was less than average. Staff was very friendly and attentive.
We love venticello and have visited for years. Tonight they served a delicious “special” mushroom soup that was cold on arrival. We had to return it for heating. The service was fine and it was so nice to have a quiet time from 6:30-8 when it got really noisy, but we had a fun time.
We picked Tuesday night for dinner , hoping it would be less busy & more quiet than weekend . To our surprise , the restaurant was packed ( very good for the business ! ) . So we had to make a little effort to hear each other .
The food was simple but excellent ( just like how we like ) and even the garnish was well seasoned and tasty .
The Mètre D , Daniel is extremely personable and cheerful and made us very comfortable . Highly recommended for a fun yet classy dining experience .
Food good as always. Wine a little pricey.
We felt lucky to find this great little cozy spot. Perfect, unobtrusive yet caring service. Excellent food and fresh pastas. A very nice atmosphere yet reasonably priced. A gem.
Wonderful because of its intimacy. The excellent food and wine was just the icing on the cake of being in such a quaint setting.
A neighborhbood gem! We had such a great dinner and experience here. The staff, food, wine and ambience was on point and we felt we found a hidden neighborhood gem.
