Ventana Grill Ratings and Reviews
Zackery our waiter was great. On time seating using Open Table. I loved my drink a Tequila Old Fashion and had 2. I had the Seabass and it was OK, but loved the spinach, apricots and pumpkin seed site, my husband also like his side and it was different. He had prawns and shrimp and thought there should be more. We shared a Mudd pie and it was good but nothing special.
This is my favorite Pismo Beach restaurant. We try to go there about once a month. This last visit was not up to par. I am not sure if they were understaffed or some other problem. We did not get our tortilla's -sauces etc until dinner was served. They usually come shortly after we order. My husband received his soup after his dinner and neither were hot.
I will go back as I know this must be an anomaly as all of my previous experiences have been positive.
Enjoyed a leisurely holiday lunch with close friends during a busy period. We were never rushed. Salads and desserts pleased the entire table. Menu is expansive and features intriguing specials, different each day. Highly recommend making a reservation and requesting a table with a great view.
I had the best Tiramisu at Ventana Grill I've ever eaten. It was drenched in rum with a wonderful texture and potent expresso.
I ordered it only because I was a little tired yet had a long drive ahead of me and the restaurant doesn't offer Expresso or Cappuccino. I tried the iced tea but it was bitter. At least the Tiramisu had some Express in it and I thought it might wake me up a little. It was a delightful surprise!
My granddaughter loved the chicken taco with beans and fluffy rice. Very high quality food.
My favorite meal at Ventana Grill was the one during which we watched dozens of whales breach!
We were so pleasantly surprised by this outstanding restaurant. The setting is spectacular and on the ocean, the decor/atmosphere is casually elegant.
Right away the service was excellent. The hostess made us comfortable while our table was being prepared. This restaurant is obviously quite popular, as every table was full on a Friday night.
Our server was terrific. Learning this was our first time to the restaurant, he took the time to explain the menu and specials, as well as noting our dietary restrictions.
The food: WOW!!! First of all, there was a lady hand making tortillas in an area in full view of the diners. It brought back some fond memories of dining in Mexico. The tortillas were excellent.
I had the Sopa Azteca ( tortilla soup) to begin and my husband had the clam chowder. Both of us kept remarking how much flavor our soups had. Delicious!
For my entre I had the Arrachera Steak & Shrimp Molcajete. Outstanding flavor. It's been a long time where food in a restaurant has delivered so much flavor. The portion of the dish was generous; the steak was tender and the shrimp were perfectly cooked.
My husband loved his vegetarian enchiladas, I had a taste and they were delicious and also full of flavor.
We think this is one of our better dining experiences and hope to return when we visit Pismo Beach again.
Stayed at the Shore Cliff Hotel and this restaurant was next door. Beautiful ocean views, friendly staff and servers. Excellent molcajete steak and shrimp dinner. Good variety of appetizers and dining options. We will definitely choose this restaurant when we are up in the Central Coast area.
I made reservations 2 days in advance for lunch on Saturday for 2 birthdays (four people total). I requested outdoor seating on the deck based on the lovely pictures in their on-line presence. When we arrived no one knew about the reservations (I wouldn't have made lunch reservations had it not been a major event for us). When they found the reservation, they didn't read the request for outside and started to seat us inside. I asked for outside and we were told that outside was first-come-first served and we would have to order food at the bar and it would be brought out to us. Where as this information on the website? All this transpired before our birthday guests. Decided to sit inside so we could be waited on. Too bad as it was a beautiful day. All booths with a view were full (did they make reservations?), so we got a table with a view for two of the 4 people only. Food was pretty good, service was courteous, but very slow. It didn't matter because we were not in a hurry, but the gaps between ordering (wine, appetizer, main course) were very noticeable. The restaurant is attractive and the view is excellent. Although I also said in the reservation that there were 2 birthdays, they asked when seating us if there was anything we were celebrating...duh. Made it look to our guests like I hadn't asked for anything special. Nice ice cream dish for the 2 birthday people though. All in all, our guests were happy but I was very frustrated after trying to plan so well for a very important event. I will not be going back here again because of the general disinterest from the hostessing staff/reservations/management. I don't think they are hurting for customers because of the location, so mid-range effort is probably adequate. Good view, good (not great) food, good (not great) service.
Very impressed with the menu, the acoustics in the restaurant help to keep conversations from carrying, the wait staff is attentive without hovering, very professional, professionally dressed. One of our favorite parts of this place is the home-made tortillas, flour and corn, made all day/night long. The views are spectacular, especially sunset, with a wrap-around deck.
Best place we ate during our stay in Pismo beach, well balanced flavors and original dishes.
Service could use some polish, we are both in the service industry and and are easy going but highly critical. A must while visiting Pismo beach, we will return for sure.
I can and do definitely recommend this place. The view is simply great, but the ambiance inside is also really nice.
Personally, I ordered their hamburger, and found it too spicy for my own individual taste. That, however, is subject to one's own likes and dislikes. I wouldn't suggest letting that deter you from going here! My wife had fish, and enjoyed it very much.
