Delicious food and great service. We went on a very quiet night and enjoyed the views. It was a lovely experience.
This is a nice hotel restaurant with nice views. It is a little out of the way but good for those at the hotel. My salad had shrimp and crab claws. The crab claws were great, larger than average and prepared perfectly. The shrimp were all under cooked and that was the only thing left in my salad plate. The waiter did not ask anything about the quality of the meal or why all 6 shrimp were still on my plate. I don't make a fuss at most restaurants and I think this one time it was a fluke which is why I am still recommending it to others.
It was decent. Nice selections. Slow service which worked out great because we just wanted to visit. Polite staff. It was better than I expected based on the reviews. Large portion size. We only ate half of what they gave us.
The staff was friendly, but mostly absent. The restaurant was fairly empty, but the service was very slow. Ordered a bottle of white wine (way overpriced), which was served at room temperature, and served 20 minutes after ordering. Soup/salad were served 10 minutes later. Then, unexpectedly, the entre was served 5 minutes later. Basically, the wine was warm, the soup was cold, but the main dish was fine. Meal presentation was not a consideration. Don’t know how it came out of the kitchen, but it was served with all the components in a heap.
Given that this was a business meal, among friends, I didn’t give it lower ratings. Had this been for a special occasion, the ratings would have been lower.
On Valentine's Day, I assumed the restaurant would not rise to its best level, but I was surprised to find the food from the fixed menu was excellent. Servers were attentive, and the evening was perfect. The price was a bit high, but that was to be expected for such a holiday.
Brought my grandmother here for her 90th birthday! Their "Impossible" burger was amazing and the service was impeccable!
The food was cold and mediocre. While we were eating our appetizer, our entre came. There was a huge group making very loud noices. I thought this was the fine restaurant in the hotel. It was not fine at all.
This is a good place once you are seated. Food is great and very creative. Make sure you have reservations or you will be waiting outside for a long time. Even if the place seems to have tables available for your party, they will make you wait.

Started at the hilton for 4 days....
1. Steak quesadilla are awful. Overcooked, tasted pre-made.
2. Fish tacos....OK, but covered in Feta cheese and the corn tortillas were not grilled. Bland flavor. Edible.
3. Spaghetti seafood combo... outstanding! Finally!
4. Every restaurant in this hotel had the same menu.... come on Hilton, you can do better! Dinner in the gaslamp district at Lionfish... superb.
Poor food, tried their burger, patty tasted frozen and no treatment to the bun for the hamburger. Had to ask for all the sauces required to make a good burger.
This was our first time dining here - the high ceilings and the view overlooking the water was really nice. Our reservation was just after sunset so next time we’ll make sure we arrive before sunset :).
The food was excellently prepared and delicious (yellowfin Tuna and the spaghetti with mussels and shrimp). Our server Kendra was awesome as well!
The menu featured on open table was not available as it was comic con. The much-reduced menu was disappointing but we decided to go ahead. The food was similar to a school canteen and was badly presented and very bland. The risotto was inedible so we sent it back and decided not to replace it. It was very expensive and a real shame as we rarely get out together (our son is autistic) and this was a special occasion.
Vela has a nice location but the staff are uneven. We ended up eating several meals there. Some staff were helpful, others indifferent. They would be chatting to other servers instead of serving your table.
Beautiful place and the service was outstanding and very pleasant. We were a party of 15 with kids and they were very kind to us. The view was incredible and the food was great. Definitely will return.
It is lovely on any day but a holiday. Short-staffed and you could not order off of the menu. (This was not posted, it was only mentioned inside the holiday menu on the app). Tables were not cleared, no one came to the table and only the buffet was available for $50/person.
The menu looked great, but when my tuna tartare came out it was on a HOT plate! Yikes!!! The heirloom tomato salad was also oddly room temperature and on a warm plate.
Went to the Easter Brunch and was extremely disappointed when I learned they kept their “Enhanced Brunch” items off to a separate room where no one told us about. The buffet we ate was just ok but no different than the normal Hilton breakfast buffet yet we were charged a huge fee for the enhanced Easter Brunch that we didn’t get to eat because no one told us where that was. When asked at the very end after getting our check, the waiter gave us a to go box instead of adjusting our tab. Overall, poor experience that could of been avoided by better customer service by our waiter, hostess and other staff.
It was good food and good service. Expected prices for a downtown hotel in San Diego.
We were a bit leary since the Yelp reviews only gave it 3 stars, but we heard it has beautiful views so we took our chance. It rained on the day, but we can see that the view would be great on a different day.
The service was not to par. We waited for quite a while for the waiter to come out. Also, when we asked the waiter for more bread, he forgot and we had to ask the food runner for it when he brought out our main course.
The food was a bit salty, but not too bad. The price was a bit steep for the food and service.
Would not come back, but would recommend one time experience for the dining with a view option.
They accepted my reservation but were closed which blocked me from making another reservation until i called them to cancel which was impossible with them closed

Excellent experience, very good food
Upon arrival at Vela, we were surprised to find the restaurant closed for the evening. Luckily a worker stopped by, who led us to another venue in Hilton open for the night. He further alerted his manager who came to apologize for the mishaps. We were informed that whereas we should have received an email of the closure, the system does not enable the staff to receive any reservation notice from Open Table until the day of, which might not provide enough time to send out the notice.
While every staff at Hilton's food and drinks dept. was more than hospitable to ensure a wonderful dinning experience for our group, I feel Open Table should improve its system with every venue in the system to prevent similar situation in the future
The spaghetti squash primavera was outstanding. The crab cakes were just okay. Nice cozy table with a view of the bay. Service was excellent.
The food came out wrong (was told we were having halibut but got swordfish) and timing was off so the food was cold. Atmosphere was boring and sterile.
We were there for the Thanksgiving meal and our reservation was at 8. While we checked for an earlier time the morning of nothing was available. But when we got to the buffet one of the workers told us we needed to get what we could because they were fixing to close it down. To expense of a meal to not get the full experience.
Timing was not great. Waiter was nice but delivered soup two minutes after serving our cocktail. No bread with meal until we asked for it.

Great service by Lukasz (spelling?)...and food hit the spot, especially the 50/50 romaine/kale ceasar salad and crab cakes as appetizers.
Though or reservation was early they were out of the prime rib we went there for. We both agreed to the offered substitution of filet mignon but our plates looked very different. One cut was very thin and overdone the potatoes were not as described. Quite overpriced.
