Great Mother's Day brunch! Food was excellent and service was outstanding. Noise level was a little high, as we were seated next to a large table with a screaming toddler. Lovely water view.
Great Service!!!! Overall extremely enjoyable Mother’s Day celebration!!!
The location is good for viewing the bay, although, mostly see industrial structures from that vantage point. The food was good although overly pricey. Service was excellent and very friendly. Went there as an early Mother's Day celebration and they gave us dessert for free.
Enjoyed a nice meal after a long day at a convention. The tortilla soup was very good. It was a quiet and the service was good
Vela still proves an independent great find along the marina venue list in San Diego. Waterfront views and an excellent menu are just some of the great things here.
Our reservation was for 545p and we arrived on time. There was a long line, supposedly all for 545p. We were warned that the kitchen was slow, so we immediately gave our order when the waitress arrived. By 7pm, our food had not arrived. The waitress was extremely apologetic, tables all around were leaving after more than an hour with no food. Our food arrived at 7:15pm, and we shoved it down and were half hour late for our event in the same hotel. It's understandable that they would be busy, with 2 conferences going on. It is inexcusable that they were understaffed and did not plan how they accepted reservations.
Food quality was a let down. Ratios on various dishes we off
If it wasn't for the staff this place would not be good. Chicken was over cooked. The menu was limited to an event in town BUT staff said we could order from 2 other local places and they would get the food. Drinks rocked! A purple martini with raspberry was awesome! this is a hotel resturant so don't expect much! I would try it one more time WITHOUT the event being in town to see if it makes a difference!
Took for ever to get our food and then the orders were all wrong, when they were finally sorted many people still ended up with the wrong food. Service was HORRIFIC. We even had to wait another 30 minutes for the bills. We'd been going here annually for years- never again. OH and the restaurant was half empty on a Friday night during a major event--we should have figured there was a problem.
My rare steak came it medium well, once they remade it, it came out great! My wife's brisket burger was delicious also.
Very scenic restaurant; service and food wait can be speeded up a bit. overall it was okay and I would give a second try.
Worst brunch I have ever eaten. Food was tasteless, cold, and soggy. Had been sitting around a long time. Cheese tasted like the refrigerator. Ham was super salty, inedible. Roasted veggies weren't cooked. At that price point ishould have had better food choices and fresh food. The Deserts were mediocre, kids liked the cake pops.
We went for Mother's Day Brunch and they had a great variety of choices from build your own omelette & Eggs Benedict stations to a wide array of Salad and dessert options.
Poor service! The waitress didn't come to take our drinks until we had been at the table for an extended period of time and then didn't return for almost a half hour. When she finally came back to take out order, one person was between items and she said "if you need more time let me come back so I can take another order" and then she left.
Luckily the food itself was pretty good because I would otherwise never consider coming back.
Came for breakfast only to find out that it was going to take a half hour for food to come out. Since we had other meetings, we were on a tight schedule, and couldn't wait that long.
Nasty hostess, crowded and major food delay.
The Aguachile (which is like ceviche) had wonderful flavor. It would have been even better with some tortilla chips or something else crunchy for texture and a "fun" way to eat it.
The service was terrible.
I liked the vela cause of it's spaciously rooms,- having space around one table makes it not to crowded although parts of the restaurant can naturally be clairaudient if big groups are together. Any chosen Food was good. I visited for dinner 3 times. The waitress gave anytime her best. There is nothing I have to complain about.
First let me say that this restaurant is located in the Hilton which is the only reason we dined here five times. As we were attending an event with limited time for meals so we opted for convenience our first night , at lunch as well as one breakfast. Dinner was terrible! I had the Porkchop $38 which was very fatty and my friend had a piece of fish $34 she reported was very small and flavorless. Our bill was $200 for 2....MANY better choices in this price point. The selections are limited. At lunch on the first day the restaurant was full and most of us were late getting back to the retreat because the kitchen and the wait staff could not handle the size of our group. I decided to give them a try the second day and the service improved considerably however the food did not. Salads were chopped iceberg with what appeared to be frozen chicken , Fish tacos, quesadillas, turkey club… All average $28 lunches. The service improved because the restaurant was practically empty… No one went back after the first day. If you're staying at this hotel breakfast and lunch are decent I would avoid dinner at all cost… If you walk to the next hotel the Marriott has Roy's which is incredible or the gaslamp district across the street has many fine choices. Cheesecake Factory is just a short walk as well. If you want to take the Ferry to Coronado there is a wonderful restaurant overlooking the water. This restaurant is overpriced for below-average food.
Staff could not handle crowd. After waiting an hour, my food order was wrong.
Did not have lunch because my 1 1/2 hour lunch conference break was over.
Sad this happened because it's a nice looking restaurant. Will not be returning.
Great place to dine
Easy access from garage ramp, very friendly staff, great food.
Took a long time to eat. Waitress was a bit mixed up.
Advertised the parade of lights which were nothing to write home about.
Immediately greeted upon entering. Seated in area we did not request and I immediately informed the hostess. She excused herself to look at the assignment left us standing in the isle for approx 10 minutes. She returned to tell us the mgr told her the window seating was reserved. I again informed her I also reserved window. My husband requested for mgr.. Mgr arrived & immediately sat us in the area we reserved for. Restaurant was half empty & remained that way until we left. Food was good & would have been delicious if it was hot. I informed the cook but nothing done.
Went here for dinner with friends. Food was average, but the service was decidedly slow and inattentive - surprising considering the restaurant was only about a quarter full (at most).
Everything was delicious !!! From the specialty infused cocktail and focaccia bread , grilled peach salad to entrees - perfection !
Vela has yet to disappoint! The food variety and quality is outstanding and makes staying on property enjoyable.
The short ribs were just about the worst short ribs ever. This restaurant seems to be just a place that will capture hotel guests that are stuck for something to eat in the hotel. Overall most disappointing. Not very good at all. In fact, this seems like a restaurant that might be at a two star Hilton, not the Bayfront Hilton in San Diego which would seem that it would support a high end restaurant. This was like a coffee shop atmosphere trying to be a fine dining restaurant. Definitely will not recommend this location.
This was a terrible meal for all of us, and we are not a hard-to-please group. Still, this was sub-standard. The restaurant was near empty, but our orders still took long enough the waitress apologized not once but twice. One meal was not fully cooked but we were too late to send anything back.
The food in general was Applebee's-level for (albeit lower-level) fine dining prices and in no way matched what San Diego restaurants -- even the ones in hotels -- generally provide. My steak was overcooked. We could have eaten twice as well for half as much at any number of restaurants within walking distance. Major fail. Avoid.
Nice space, though. Nice view.
This restaurant is situated within the Hilton San Diego Bayfront. It is a standard hotel restaurant, nothing out of the ordinary. Food and service was good, as would be expected in a 4 star hotel. The ambiance was not special as it is a standard restaurant without any extra special touches. It was a good meal and functional for the purpose of dining on arrival with our group.
The calamari was good
Food so-so and limited
Good for work meeting
The food was EXCELLENT! The view was gorgeous. And at first, I enjoyed the quiet atmosphere as I, along with nearly everyone else in there at the time, was dining abone. Then they turned on clubby music, which, in my opinion, was louder than it needed to be. The embiance seemed awkward after that. In addition, all of a sudden, a staff member (I think it was my server) was talking to/arguing with/reprimanding another staff member VERY behind me in the kitchen doorway. That also made me a little uncomfortable. I tried hard not to listen to what he was saying.
Food and wines elections were great. Many vegetarian options as well as a good kids menu.
We came later in the evening with a group of 11. Appetizers were very good (ricotta, kalamari, and shrimp cocktail). Service was a little slow, the tomatoey-quinoa-lentil soup that was supposed to be risotto was a bit of a shock. It tasted fine, but wasn't really risotto. The salmon and chicken were quite good. They did a decent job for a larger group on short notice.
Lovely wait staff and delicious food and drink specials. Just the ticket after a long day's drive from nor cal.
Foodwas good. I order the short rib w risotto & the rice could have cooked a bit more. But the meal was very flavorful. My sister ordered the brussel sprouts w poached egg & she thought it was okay. She didn't quite like the sauce. We had plenty to eat. The svc was a bit on slow side. Overall it was a prtty good meal.
The price of the 3 course meal was too high. The tables were too bright with spotlights. The squirming and noisy children were distracting for what would seem to be a quiet, expensive restaurant. The courses were served about 5-10 minutes apart, which seemed excessive.
Very disappointing. The menu was nothing if what we had read online. Very limited choices and the food was not tasty at all. also overpriced for the quality!
