Vaso Azzurro Ratings and Reviews
I had chicken piccata. My husband has veal Marsala. All entrees came with the same sides - mashed potatoes and vegetables. My meal was okay. This is my second time at this restaurant. It’s okay but with so many restaurants in this area I’ll try a different restaurant next time.
Pasta was overcooked, sauce was supposed to be spicey but wasn't, could barely see the 5 small pieces of eggplant supposed to be in the sauce, maitre d treated me abruptly and harshly, live music was way too loud for the space, salad was small, over all the experience was over priced. Good things were healthy pour in glass of wine and waiter was good
The interior of the restaurant was great and the ambiance was lively! Food was just ok... Nothing spectacular! What really made the experience questionable was the snarly waiter who felt compelled to ask if our group had a reservation SEVERAL times in a matter of 10 minutes. What a moron!
Vaso Azzurro was just wonderful. 4 of us went before a performance nearby.
We all had salads with greens, avocado, gorgonzola and walnuts. Yum! and portions enough for two to share. Then two of us shared that day's special pasta, which was blackened salmon over fettuccine with sundried tomatoes and alfredo sauce. It was amazing. They charged $1.50 for sharing and effectively gave us two full portions. Our friends each tried the seasonal stuffed ravioli which they also enjoyed very much. The service couldn't have been better. We all said we'd go back in a minute.
My wife and I had enjoyed our fourth dinner over the past four months at Vasa Azzurro on Oct. 2, and we have enjoyed each one. The food, service, and ambience have been consistently excellent, and we enjoyed the singing by the maitre d during our most recent visit, which added to the romantic atmosphere of the restaurant. Their lasagna is one of the best I have had in the US and in Italy. The next time we want Italian food, we will return to Vaso Azzurro.
We enjoyed our visit to this very good Italian restaurant in midscale Mountain View. The wines by the glass were well-selected and the fish special (grilled Barramundi) was very nice and flavorful. Our vegetarian pasta was fresh and very palatable. We'd definitely stop by here again for Italian dining.
First time and had a good meal went with another couple. We all had different dishes they were all very good. There were entertainers there too and the owner joined in and sang. He was very personable went around the the tables and talked to everyone asking how dinner was and made recommendations for dessert!
The food here is always good though not exceptional. Be aware that indoors the noise level is very high, which, for millennials is seemingly no problem, but for us older folks presents a bit of a hearing challenge. Excellent jazz musicians were playing this Saturday night.
On my Open Table reservation, made a week or so before our actual date, I specifically requested an outdoor table because it is much quieter outside and the weather was nice and warm. However, when we arrived for a pre-theater early dinner about 6:00, the owner/host said there was no available outside seating despite almost every one of the outdoor tables being empty. He said they were all reserved and I had not reserved one. Clearly on my Open Table reservation when I went back to check it, the outdoor request was there. Very frustrating, and not endearing me to return.
This is a great place to go eat, the food is always very good the choice of wines is great. The staff is very friendly and nice and the Maitre' D also sings ... wonderful voice. I would recommend this as a a nice dinner spot with either friends or for an after business meeting.
Fine. Incredibly noisy inside. A far-too-loud signer and concrete walls and ceiling made it hard to hear my companions. We were there on a Saturday; it may be less noisy on other nights. Service was good. Food was good without being fantastic, but nothing wrong with it.
I would definitely go there again.
We have eaten here a lot over the years and will always go back. My wife's veal picatta was just as she likes it. I tried the veal scapellato for the first time and the sauce was not to my liking. I will stay with other items next time. The appetizer we had was the heirloom tomatoes with basil and buffalo mozzarella. Always great but not listed on the menu as it depends whether they can get the heirlooms. You must usually ask for the appetizer as it is 50/50 that they will have it. We ate inside this time as the wind was a little chilly and no tables were available except for the 3 new tables on the sidewalk. Noise level was decent but is known to get on the high side with many large parties. Do not let the sound deter you from eating here. On another note, Mark was singing a few songs through the night.
We all enjoyed our meals, but it was so noisy that we didn't even consider dessert. The point was to visit with friends, but it was so loud that conversation was nearly impossible. (One person in our party had a sound app and measured the noise level at 88 db)
Vaso Azzurro is my absolute favorite neighborhood restaurant! I have been a regular since they opened about 15 years ago. It feels intimate, yet has delightful outdoor sidewalk seating plus indoor seating among beautiful paintings set on faux painted walls, creating a feeling of being in Italy. Their food is awesome and with a wide variety of choices. My favorite is Gamberoni alla Ligure, a prawn dish with crispy polenta filled with Dungeness crabmeat. And be sure to try their signature dessert -- apple strudel. (Yes, The Best apple strudel in an Italian restaurant!)
Dining at Vaso Azzurro with a friend this weekend, we had incredibly good service as well. This is a family owned and run restaurant, and even additional employees fit into the "family team". It is so rare to find every staff member assisting each other and for a diner to get fast and superb service from whoever is available. We counted 10 waitpersons on duty at the same time. This includes 3 brothers and 2 sisters. One of the brothers and Mark, the Maitre D, sing beautifully and periodically entertain with their professional voices. All in all, an exceptional dining experience every time.
Our meal seemed especially delicious this visit. I had 5 (!) ample lamb chops cooked perfectly, and my husband 's sea food pasta was heaped with great goodies. I love the zabaglione! But no decaf coffee was available, and the non-alcoholic beer a little pricey. We love the personal greetings from family members.
i had a great time there, food was delicious, they even made something special for me per my request, it was just outstanding. Mark the singer just made everything perfect, he is a great singer and super nice person. I am definitely going back and will recommend them for sure.
Not suitable for a business dinner! I was very disappointed by my first experience at Vaso Azzurro in Mountain View. Consider this - what could make for a worse business dinner than being forced to apologize to your client for your choice of venue?
Where to begin - the only not terrible part was the food itself. It was not special in any way, very typical Italo-American, not authentic Italian cuisine at all. To whit - you'll never see fettucine alfredo on the menu of any reputable restaurant in Italy. The calamari was very run of the mill, and the tortellini seemed to be not freshly made, and not properly cooked. Tortellini after all should not be downright crunchy inside.
The service was poor, unattentive and error prone. When the bottle of wine I requested arrived at the table wrapped in paper, I didn't notice until after it had been opened and four glasses poured that it was the wrong wine. Too late to do anything about it then, huh? Does the server not know the difference between an Amarone and a Barolo??
But the very worst of all was the utter conceit of the maitre d', who interrupted our business meal TWICE so he could sing?!? Really? Is this an upscale italian restaurant in Mountain View or did we mistakenly stumble into a karaoke bar?!? The first time, I mentioned to our server that he was disturbing our conversation and asked that the volume be reduced, with no effect. The second time when he came back for an encore, and we simply stopped trying to continue our discussion.
I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone, for anything...there are far better, more attentive, more authentic Italian restaurants in the south bay.
