Loud DJ noise for lunch. The food is okay.
The food was fantastic….lobster Mac and cheese, truffle fries, and the la Leche chocolate dessert. We ordered an appetizer, salads and entrees. We asked for the salads to come out before the entree, which it did,but just barely. It seemed like we got the appetizer, salad, and entree one right after the other. Then we waited a while for our dessert. Other than those timing issues, all was perfectly wonderful.
Find was excellent, service was iffy. I.E. Didn't have wine requested, didn't bring back the wine menu. Had coffee with cream, had to request a spoon. Waiter never came to table inquiring about the food or any other needs.
Pre-pandamic this was one of our favs…. but this visit was just this side of terrible. Our server was non-existant, the place smelled like sour bar-rags. We were initially seated at a so-so table, then moved (for no apparent reason) to literally the worst table in the house (just outside the kitchen service door). AND - there were multiple nice two-tops open when we arrived…and when we left, so there was no reason to seat anyone at this table. The hall to the bathroom was littered with chairs, cast-off tables and other ‘storage’ items. I felt like I was walking thru their storeroom to get to the bathroom. The sour smell was joined with bad-fish smell in this area. The appetizers were pretty good, but the entres were not (and expensive to boot). I had the $35 lobstr mac-n-cheese. I found only one, very small piece of lobster. The pork-belly medalions were hard as rocks and there was very little sauce - so I basically paid $35 for dried-out pasta. My husband had fish-n-chips which was all overly cooked (burnt tasting) batter with very litte fish. Over the years this place has been a bit up and down, but the downs were never all that bad so we always came back…. but I think this is probably our last visit. Too bad as it really can be a beautiful space.
Our group enjoyed our experience at Union Rooftop. Our server was very friendly and helpful and she contributed to the enjoyment of our evening. The food was fresh and delicious. Your restaurant was a great choice before our show.
We highly recommend the Breakfast Chimichanga, Chocolate Banana Pancakes, and the Cajun Ham and Cheese. Don’t forget the Bottomless Mimosas.
Crammed us in like sardines. Felt like I was in a high school cafeteria. Rooftop seating smelled like dirty bar floor mats
This space features lots of close tables packed in, making your neighboring tables within arms reach of each other. The meal and drinks were very good, and birthday sparkler on top of the dessert was a fun surprise and a crowd pleaser.
Place was very dark and had a weird smell.
Union Rooftop was terribly smelly, almost unbearable. We left before ordering.
This restaurant is likely best enjoyed during warm weather. So I would give it another shot in summer. When we were there in November, the entire restaurant smelled like garbage. I know we could have left, but we couldn’t get in to any nearby places with our group of 5. Service was decent, as was the food, but not good enough that I would go back for just that. Let’s just say there’s room
for improvement. Our server never came back to ask how our meal was - or to ask for drink refills, which we all would have ordered. Last, it’s very dark in the whole place. Candles on the tables would be a nice youch for ambience.
The service was great. The food was decent and well priced. And the ambience felt a little like....A Rax restaurant. Remember those partially glassed eating areas in the front of Rax? Ambience was lousy and the place felt run down. The bathrooms were a wreck. Really really bad. BUT it is super close to the downtown theaters so it was perfect before a show. And like I said - good food and very good service. Just use the bathroom once you get to your theater!
My birthday was fantastic! Thank you for having such wonderful staff and ambiance!
The food is just ok for the price, but it's a fun brunch spot.
Odd smell- chlorine trying to cover up mildew?
The only thing good about our experience was our server, she was lovely. Went for dinner before a 930 show on Sat 11/13. This place is FILTHY!!! You’ve been closed for such long periods of time during the pandemic and have limited hours—- and you couldnt clean this place? Has it ever been cleaned? Staff working host stand both bottom and top, zero professionalism, looked like they rolled out of bed for work. For what was once a nice unique place to go is an absolute dump. Apparently drag brunches are “the time” to go—- although that would be fun, skip the food as you’ll probably have a serious stomach ache like I did from my meal.
The downstairs restaurant is vacant. You take the elevator to the rooftop dining. Overall the ambience is good, but very dark. We could hardly see our menus, they could use more overhead lighting even if it’s just the string patio lights that they have outside. Also, they could use a few patio heaters as the space was a bit chilly with the roof closed and snow falling outside. The two hostesses were extremely under dressed in ripped jeans and yoga pants, and would play on their phones and talk to coworkers while standing at the host to station. After our meal, we used the restroom downstairs. It was filthy. Graffiti on one of the stall doors, paper towels all over the floor, light fixtures not working, and two of the three soap dispensers were empty. The stairway heading down to the bathrooms in the basement feels like something out of a murder film. I wouldn’t want to have gone down there alone. I was thankful to have two people with me.
Overall I’d rate my experience a six or seven out of 10. And that’s only because of the food was good. It’s such a shame this is a beautiful location and it has not been taken care of.
All was great—but I forget how loud the rooftop is when the cover is closed. Lots of noise, lots of hard surfaces for it to bounce off of.
The food was great! Our server was super helpful for us out of towners. We were the first ones there for dinner service and put in the very back by the kitchen, along the glass rooftop (which was nice). It did not feel busy or bustling by the kitchen (a positive). It was really dark though. In the end, we enjoyed our food & experience!
The food was very good. It was very noisy and very dark. They need to add more lighting. I get that the ceiling is glass, but even having candles or lights on the table would help.
It was an enjoyable evening. Tables were close together and it made it difficult to have a conversation.
Before Show dinner.
Needs better lighting!!! Suggestion to Put some Holiday light strings across the ceiling. Would give it super cool look.
Seemed a bit over priced for what it was.
Came to Minneapolis for my twenty first and came to Union for dinner and drinks which were amazing!!! The view at night was so beautiful & I bet it would be even better during the day! I got three drinks which were so yummy and would definitely go there again!!
The fall menu selection was delightful
It was nice to be in the rooftop space as the sun was setting. Very comfortable. Water was poured right away, and our service promptly arrived to take our drink orders. Appetizer and split salad with protein nicely filled us up and was tasty. It was a nice prelude to our concert at First Avenue. Thanks!
I love UNION Rooftop!! Everyone in our party was amazed by their meal. Our server (can't remember his name) was super-helpful in making recommendations. The only reason I didn't go all 5 stars was that there was an odd smell last night (sewer?).
Otherwise, another stellar evening at the UNION Rooftop!!!
We chose this restaurant based on its proximity to our event for the evening. Molly was our server and she was attentive and excellent and made good food recommendations. The dining area is quite dark once the sun goes down and the tables a bit small but overall we had a very nice evening. The cheese curds with honey espresso sauce were awesome and my husband said his walleye was the beat he ever had. Would go again for sure.
Amazing, took my wife and we both loved it. Specially the Cajun pasta! Recommend and the Pineapple Express martini!
Loved the chicken and my 8oz steak was cooked to perfection, the celery root was delicious as well. I have no complaints.
Great service! Food was delicious and service was fast!
Atmosphere was good, seating seemed to be squished together, was not as impressed with the food as some reviews had made it out to be, but overall it was ok. The service was great by our waiter
I thought the dinning room was a little too dark it needed more lighting. Also the pasta I got could have been fresher. The carrot cake was not very good it tasted like it had been sitting in a fridge for awhile.
Antonio is a great server. He took really good care of us, I was impressed. The food was delicious and creative, and the atmosphere was lively. We really enjoyed our experience.
The scallops were outstanding! The Chilean sea bass was great and the lobster mac and cheese was good. Cocktails were terrific. I made my blackberry cocktail that I switched the alcohol out for ginger ale. It was perfect. Service was terrific. Only negative was two of the chairs were wet. Staff wiped them off, but my brother and sister-in-law still left with wet pants. We should have gotten them different chairs. Other than that, we had a wonderful time.
I loved the food, the truffle fries and the honey glazed salmon was delicious! Food came out fast and was plated beautifully! Would definitely go again.
The Food was just ok. I had cajun chicken alfredo the windows are in need of cleaning.
Friendly staff, delicious food and great service. We were seated on time and we’re able to add someone to our reservation
Food was disgusting
