We had a wonderful anniversary meal. Great service and lovely ambience.
Excellent service. The place is beautiful and the food is phenomenal. Will definitely come back. Made for a sweet date night setting
I liked the ambiance - it was average. The table setting very rustic, plain and nothing to make it welcoming or inviting....the table felt more pub style. We tried the fries - cooked in duck fat w/rosemary. Those were amazing. Fresh, hot, aromatic and having the different dipping sauces made it fun and interesting. I had the beef tenderloin as my main meal. The steak did have a great sear on it, it was cooked to a great medium temp, but it was a little too salty and it was not as juicy and flavorful as you'd expect. Tendorloin is hard to get juicy and flavorful, but I do expect them to get that spot on. The tenderloin did come with a sauce and bleu cheese....I love bleu cheese with steak, but because bleu cheese can already have a saltiness to it, it made the whole meal salty, between the steak, the sauce and the cheese....so that was just a little dissappointing. The swiss chard that came with the steak was flavored well, but oily...so that wasn't good. It didn't make for a clean bite that I was looking for. Now, I will give the benefit of the doubt: the entree was supposed to come with fingerling potatoes, but I did not get them. Maybe the potatoes were meant to soak up some of the saltiness and oil from the sauce and swiss chard. The highlight was what I switched the fingerling potatoes for; which was the cauliflower and corn puree, which was sweet, light, airy and felt like having a cloud in your mouth so that was amazing and they got that spot on. The live music was great that night. The speed of service was absolutely finite. The organization of staff was clearly very much on the same page and it showed. The server was a great delight and did an extremely great job. Overall, this a great dining experience and I would recommend it if you just want a great meal - but I wouldn't have high expectations or say this is a MUST restaurant to try.
Wonderful wonderful waitstaff and food. Would definitely recommend
Great food..great experience. We will definitely go back.
Excellent eclectic menu with varied appetizers. Knowledgeable server to explain choices.
Food and service were just great. Particularly enjoyed the sirloin steak special and delicious desserts.
Fantastic food, great drinks
Usually it’s a really good spot but the mixed drinks were very poorly made (Manhattan and margarita) and was a bit disappointed in the goat cheese / bread appetizer!
Great for a date night. Food was really good and sitting outside on a nice evening was great
First, the Wait Staff are always top notch at Union 50; Brandon was our server and he's taken care of us before; he is an excellent server and we always appreciate him.
We had the special which was a piece of skirt steak with 2 shrimp: it was called "Surf and Turf'. However, as great tasting as the sauce was, skirt steak isn't one of my favorites--it's from the short loin of the cow and rarely as good as tenderloin-- but we thought we'd try it.
It was a 6 oz piece and was indeed cooked the way we like, (medium rare, rare) but it was too chewy. A different cut of beef for 'surf and turf' would have been better. I've had surf & turf in some venues with a 6-7 oz filet which is far more tender. Having said that, it seems that in many restaurants we go to in Indy (and we dine out 2-3 times a week) due to Covid as well as supply/labor shortage/transport, meat quality in many dining establishments has diminished.
I'd recommend avoiding skirt steak if at all possible. And, I'd serve this with 3 shrimp instead of just 2.
The sauce was delicious as were the shrimp; the veggies ( was it succotash? Wasn't sure) were too crunchy and needed to be cooked at least a minute and a half to 2 minutes longer.
The atmosphere is amazing from the second you walk in. Large open feeling with the bar at the center lined with top shelf beverages.
Food was amazing and the portions perfect. Had the best Old Fashioned I have ever had.
Had a lovely time participating in Devour Indy! The menu was well crafted and fairly priced. Overall, the meals were so tasty the only way to express it, is you have to come in and try it!
Everything was great. Ate off the Devour Indy menu and it was a great value.
Sat at a weird table booth. Not same experience as I had in open bar area. The Pool Party drink was AWESOME!! Thanks!
Best meal we've had out since early summer 2018. I cook well enough to be critical and just didn't find much to fault. The 'Bistro' plates are enough for 3-4 to share and were more creative and better executed than the 'Grand' selections. Best appetizer was the wood fired mushrooms, though the Toast + Jam was more interesting. The lamb shank was easily the best entree. Wine selection is well done and fairly priced. Server wasn't the most experienced, but very attentive and took good care of us. Highly recommended.
Of the CRG restaurants I’ve been to this one ranks the lowest to date. The food was average at best and rather disappointing. We came during the Devour Indy week special and were not impressed. The first course meatballs seemed almost frozen and then cooked, not fresh and juicy. The salad option had maybe 10 leaves of lettuce and lacked presentation and flavor. For our mains, we had the chicken and waffles and swordfish. The chicken was breaded nicely and cooked well, but there was minimal “syrup” glaze to accompany the dry seemingly store bought waffle. No bueno! The swordfish was overcooked and dry - however the couscous was decent. Dessert was ok. The chocolate option was our favorite, while the tres leches was nothing to write home about. The highlights of the meal were the truffle fries and cocktails. It’s almost as if they cheapened the Devour Indy menu just to get people in the door. Will try again with the full main menu at some point. In the meantime, there are far better options with better service and food to try.
Very good food, drinks and service. We'll be back!
We had a wonderful time at Union 50. Very knowledgeable waiter, great selection of drinks, the food was delicious! We had the tres leaches for desert and it was exquisite!! Would highly recommend this place!
The food was delicious and served beautifully. The service was delightful. Planning to return more frequently.
We had a very nice server she made sure we were okay, food taste great, just that the live band is a little bit too loud
Good food. Great atmosphere. Cool interior and design. Reallly enjoyed the dessert and drinks
Food was just ok, nothing to right home about. Service was good!
Food was great and good service and nice surroundings!
All around great !
amazing experience during devour Indy.
Service was awesome, food incredible! Will be back
It was lovely!
Peach meatballs were disappointing - not enough peach or mango flavor. I was really looking forward to the meatballs so was sad I wasn’t thrilled by the dish. Chicken and waffle was good although I ate very little so I could have room for the dessert. Fries were yummy and the garlic truffle dipping sauce was fantastic. Espresso Chipotle dipping sauce sounded interesting but missed the mark in my opinion. The star was the Tres Leche cake. I finished the entire cake although I was stuffed! I would have preferred a fruit ice cream instead of the vanilla ice cream that came with the dish. The service was fine and I love the interior of the building.
Always great. A changing menu that keeps diners interested. Cocktails are wonderful and a large selection of beer and wine. Have never been disappointed.
It was our 43 anniversary! The restaurant all fours because of the music noise level - way too loud.
We went there for our anniversary around 6 PM. It was a little quieter than later. Food was great. Lamb shank and Duck, Duck hit the spot. Great place for special occasions
Great feel, good food and entertaining server. I will have to return and listen to music one nite. I recommend
Waitstaff was welcoming, ambiance is great - open space and great lighting. Food was fantastic as were the drinks. Chocolate terrine dessert was out of this world.
It was my first time, but I will be back. The plates are big, but very good.
Great menu. It was hard to choose what to have. Everything we did have was amazing and the cocktails were strong and delicious. Service was outstanding.
It was great!! Loved the chilaquiles poutine and the dates.
Dad was in town. It was great!
Love, love, love Union 50! Food is always clean the plate delicious but prices don't clean the wallet. Highly recommend shrimp and grits, tomahawk pork chop, and scallops.
