Chef Tyson Cole, winner of the 2011 James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef Southwest--Thank you Uchi and Uchiko family and friends for your support!
Uchiko, translated as "child of Uchi" from Japanese, is the next restaurant venture for renowned executive chef and sushi master Tyson Cole. Located in central Austin, this second location of Cole’s highly-praised Uchi presents the same excellence and energetic atmosphere of the original with some noteworthy additions. Uchiko will feature a new menu with Uchi’s same style of innovative, fresh cuisine, a main dining room that accepts reservations throughout the evening and an eat-in bar/café area.

Uichiko of course is the spinoff of well known Sushi house Uichi on the other side of the city. We arrived late, and were seated at a table. After ordering, we found out that three key items which we came for were sold out for the night. We then compromised on a few other sushi dishes and hot dishes. Overall the quality was not better than I could get from a three star sushi bar on the east side of the Bay Area. Sato on the other side of town was much better.
We loved it!
The food, as always, is phenomenal. Particularly the 72-hour wagyu beef sashimi might be the best thing I’ve ever eaten. It never disappoints.
Sea bass 5 star dish. All sushimi very fresh and it’s what sets this place apart from the second best sushi location in Austin - kome.
Uchiko never fails to deliver an amazing dining experience. The food is always magical, and the service is second to none.
Lives up to the memories and the hype every time!
We had a great time at Uchiko! We enjoyed their Sake Social plus items off the regular menu especially the Wagu Beef cooked on a hot rock. Service was spectacular!
The staff make this place memorable. The service is the best in Austin. It can be hard to get in for happy hour most nights so make a reservation on opentable. Soooo good.
Our anniversary. Thanks for help making it special.
Before going to Uchiko I had been to Uchi so I thought I had a good idea of what the experience would be like. I told our server this when I arrived and asked if she could describe the difference between the restaurants which she replied, "well, basically just the menu items." No other explanations regarding flavor differences or inspiration. When I go to a restaurant where I know I'll spend roughly $100 per person including drinks, I want the wait staff to be extremely knowledgeable, professional, and consultative. I was with two friends so we ordered a few things but kept asking for recommendations and if we were ordering enough. All our waitress could say was that she recommended the ham and cheese sushi roll... The food was taking a pretty long time to come out so when we were finally able to flag her down, she didn't know what had already come or not. We decide to just get the check. Overall this was not a great experience. We had a few sashimi, a roll, the brussels sprouts and edamame. Honestly, nothing blew my mind for the price and lack of service. I'll be sticking to Uchi from now on.
From the standpoint of quality and innovation of the food and service quality, still the best in Austin
Food and Service were impeccable!! We love the Uchi brand and the staff.
Went to Uchiko for sake social hour and had an amazing time. A great filling meal with unique sushi dishes as well as a few hot savory bites. Plus with social hour, it was much less than it felt like it should be.
The food and service by our waitress was impeccable. We will absolutely go again!
Another spectacular meal Britney, our server, dove the selections and pairings based on our brief taste preferences. We also had a visit with Tyson which capped off a perfect evening.
Amazing food, service, overall experience! Do not miss this place!
Love happy hour!!
Awesome as always! Only flaw was slightly too salty tempura on the Nasu/Eggplant. Other than that, just incredible!!!
Would love to see the Sweet Corn Dessert back on the menu. Easily my all time favorite dessert dish ever!!!
Superior quality. The sake cocktails could be improved but were good. Just limited selection. Also we had the Omokase and one dish was frankly, not good. (King Crab dish on 12/27/19. Everything else was exceptional. Very expensive though for two as our bill with tip was close to $300. Friendly, attentive staff. Definitely a special occasion place I would recommend. Just bring a fat wallet.
Amazing waitress, the food was unbelievable.
Very impressed with the specific ingredients paired with each fish, great flavors. Waitress was very polite, informative, and tentative but not over the top. So impressed!
Simply amazing. Every bite was spectacular, every fish paired with a drizzle of this or a paper thin slice of that. And our waiter, Lindsey, knew all about everything and made some great recommendations. She is even a certified Sake expert. My favorite was the life affirming hama chili, my wife loved a thai branzino, and my daughter loved the tempura roll. Thanks for a truly wonderful dining experience.
Disappointed with Nigiri - Rice was dry and fish did not taste fresh. The nigiri cuts of fish was too small for the price
As always, great food and great service in a great space. It was perfect for my wife’s birthday.
Food was great as always. Scallops were amazing.
Everything there was amazing! The food was amazing, and our waitress Anna was great and very helpful. We can’t wait to go back!
My friends have been raving about Uchiko for as long as I can remember. My husband and I took my mom here for her birthday. We had drinks while we waited for our table (we arrived early). Or reservation was for 7:30pm on a Wednesday. The chardonnay was lovely. Upon being seated we were immediately handed menus, given warm towels, and our water glasses were filled. For reference, this is the type of restaurant where someone fills your water back to the top after you take a sip. The menu was difficult for me to understand because I am accustomed to sushi menus with basic wording. Not only was this menu more specific, it had foods I hadn’t even heard of. Luckily, this was irrelevant because our waiter, Julia, explained everything to us. We ended up deciding on getting the Special, a 5 course meal that is customized to your event, likes, mood, etc. Every single dish that came out was better than the last. We had nigiri (amazing), pork belly nigiri (incredible), Japanese fried chicken (life changing), and other dishes that I wish I could explain but can not. It wasn’t just dinner, it was a religious experience. Julia was so attentive, funny, and kind. AND patient. For dessert, we ordered 2 items. She brought out 3, because one dessert was in the house for my mom’s birthday. Julia customized our dessert for us. I so rarely leave reviews, but I feel like it’s my duty to let people know how special Uchiko is. Thank you to everyone who worked there that night, my mom loved her birthday dinner.
Great wine and daily specials were amazing. Server was helpful but guided recommendations based on our tastes.
Uchiko is always amazing and so consistent with every dish. Every time we go there it's perfection. Love the staff, love the food, love the atmosphere, it's the best dining experience I've ever had (every single time).
Service was outstanding. We did the 10 course Chefs choice. Not worth the price. Not because of portion sizes. It’s Japanese... The execution of several of the cooked items was poor. Very heavy handed with the salt. The non-cooked fish dishes were very good. Thumbs up to one of the cooked items. Trumpet mushroom sushi dish. Mushroom slices sous vide in ghee. Then pan seared and placed over season vinegar white rice (touch of tart sweetness to counter the fatty ghee infused mushroom.)
Overall, a 3 star event for me given three people spent more $500 including two bottles of a modest wine.
I love Uchiko! The staff are always knowledgeable and helpful with the menu and offering suggestions.
I don't know what to say about Uchiko that could even come close to what it feels like to experience it. Every bite is perfect—balanced flavors and textures and unlike anything else I've ever had. I can't wait to come back.
The food is delicious and so fresh, we eat a lot of sushi and have never had any prepared as well as the dishes here. You dont even need or want soy sauce and wasabi. You are greeted by very nice smiling faces and the waitstaff is all very nice and helpful. We will definitely go back.
The food was AMAZING. My husband and I went for his birthday dinner. Our favorites were the Japanese yellowtail sashimi, Japanese uni, soft shell crab roll and wagyu beef hot rock. The milk and cereal dessert is a classic for this place and definitely worth getting. Service was friendly and great. Already looking forward to my next visit there.
