Chef Tyson Cole, winner of the 2011 James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef Southwest--Thank you Uchi and Uchiko family and friends for your support!
Uchiko, translated as "child of Uchi" from Japanese, is the next restaurant venture for renowned executive chef and sushi master Tyson Cole. Located in central Austin, this second location of Cole’s highly-praised Uchi presents the same excellence and energetic atmosphere of the original with some noteworthy additions. Uchiko will feature a new menu with Uchi’s same style of innovative, fresh cuisine, a main dining room that accepts reservations throughout the evening and an eat-in bar/café area.
My absolute favorite place to go out to eat! It’s pricey but certainly worth it. I suggest sitting at the sushi bar the first few visits and let the sushi chef choose your dishes. That way you can explore the menu and make note of all your favorites for future visits.
Restaurant was full. Food was excellent. Best way to enjoy is give the waitperson a couple of your favorite dishes and then let them fill in the rest. Always a delightful surprise or 2 or 3 or 4.
It was good took a while for the food to come out but it was good
The edamame was incredible! Also, the sake nigiri was really good. Service was great, atmosphere was great. Worth visiting during their happy hour prices.
The food was beyond amazing. One of the best meals I’ve ever had in Austin.
food got cold fast, they served all dish at the same time.
Uchiko's always great, but their happy hour is especially great! $3 Sapporos and the Hama Chili (not $3, but on the happy hour) - delightful.
Loved it, as always! The chef’s tasting menu is always an tasty adventure, and nothing ever disappoints. We didn’t finish one dish and the server asked if we liked it—we confessed it wasn’t our favorite but we said we didn’t hate it. Without another word, they took it off our bill. They really care about giving customers a first-class experience! Will go back soon!
The quality and variety of seafood that we enjoyed during omakase was remarkable. Knifejaw and baby black snapper are two examples of fish I had never tried before. It is a wonderful experience to be able to try new things especially when they are treated with respect and care.
We cannot wait to return and try some other items. Absolutely superb dining experience!
Happy hour menu is fantastic. Highly recommend all the maki & nigiri.
Overpriced!!! Did not consider any of your concerns about quality and taste of nigiri ($16/each) SUCKS
The food is so good there and I was on the wait list for a bigger table and better time - and sure enough they called me and got those requests filled!
We eat out often and this was one of the best meals we have had this year. It was quite an event! Our guest were just as impressed! Thank you fir providing us with a delightful experience. Kudos to the Chef and staff for a memorable evening.
Awesome food and great dining experience. Celebrating my wife’s birthday, and they made it special. Best restaurant in Austin.
My husband and I dined at Uchiko for our 5th anniversary celebration. The food was absolutely wonderful, but on the expensive side, however it was a special occasion and we knew this going in. We got to try several different dishes, all of which were amazing. The halibut and wagyu sashimi were my favorites. It was slightly loud due to the busy nature of the restaurant on a Friday night, but we still had a lovely time. Our server was kind and attentive. We were especially impressed by the support staff of bussers and food runners who were prompt in removing empty dishes from our table, refilling our water, and explaining each dish to us upon arrival. Can’t wait to return for another special occasion!
Our waiter was great, and the food was amazing. We have come multiple times, and this was one of the best.
Always the best! It’s definitely my go-to for sushi and the happy hour is a fantastic deal. Get there early and make a reservation!
It was good, service was a little slow. I reccomend going during happy hour
Outstanding! Each time I come to town I always get a reservation. The quality has never changed. Great place for a date night or just being out with friends.
The food was exceptional, but we felt like the meal had no direction. We didn’t really know what to order so we asked our server for suggestions. The items he suggested were phenomenal, but there was no feeling of order to the dishes and we felt like maybe we missed out on the best experience we could have had considering the extensive choices on the menu. We had the Madai crudo to start which was magical, light and elegant. The halibut was a masterpiece of mushroom crusted, coconut and hazelnut richness, and the short rib with butternut squash purée and mushroom was to die for. Each dish left us wanting more. However, the ambiance was just OK - we were a table for two, wedged in between one large party and a party of three. We would definitely go back for the food, but the experience could have been more special.
The food was great, service was great, staff friendly. but food is super expensive.
One of the best overall restaurants in Austin, definitely THE best Japanese, if you want to call it that. Amazing sashimi/fruit/sauce combinations, hot plates, rolls, everything. Amazing every time.
As always, we enjoyed our time at Uchiko. The food was delicious and reasonably priced and I love that we get to try a lot of different dishes. We were there during the sake social happy hour and loved one of the dishes on the happy hour menu- The Gyudon. Wagyu beef on top of a fried rice cake with a delicious sauce. Wish this was on the regular menu all the time! Pro tip- Make a reservation or you’ll be waiting 1.5+ hours on any night.
the food and service is always on point, every time
Tasting menu was divine! Lovely birthday desert!
Haven’t been in a few years, seems the overall quality of sashimi has gone down. It wasn’t bad, but for the price there are much better places in Austin.
Great food! Awesome flavors and presentation!
As always, the food was inventive, delicious, and perfectly executed. On this particular visit, the service was a little inconsistent, but that did nothing to spoil an enjoyable meal.
The quality of the food was exceptional. We walked away feeling very good about what we ate which says a lot about a restaurant. Service was prompt and good. Since the place is small and tables are close by the noise level was a bit high but it did not bother us too much. Overall a great experience.
Food is fantastic, a little too overpriced but the value is worth it. Just wish I could get a little more for my money.
Always fantastic!! Sat at far end of sushi bar -- worked well.
My favorite restaurant in Austin!
Food is always good and consistent. We were seated within 2 minutes of our reservation time. Wait staff is knowledgeable and attentive. We will be back.
Portions have become much smaller. That was disappointing.
Uchiko never disappoints, even on a busy night. Loved it and will be back
Must try sushi restaurant in Austin. The restaurant has a large selection/range of sushi for everyone. From the service to the food it was a very memorable experience. Our waiter was absolutely amazing his name is Brandon if your able to request someone he definitely went above and beyond to make sure our experience was amazing. And it was. Also for a sushi restaurant in Austin the price was very reasonable. We were able to splurge without breaking the bank.
We were excited to try Uchiko, but it fell flat. The service was the highlight...attentive without hovering. We ordered three rolls, the Brussels sprouts (the best dish), the gyotoro beef, and several drinks. Most dishes were bland. The noise was fine, though tables were a bit close together. We ended up going to Whataburger afterward since neither of us were satisfied. For the money, I would go elsewhere.
Perfect date night restaurant! Quiet enough to talk, best sushi and sashimi in town, absolutely amazing service, everything you want for a date!
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Uchiko. Brittany’s service was excellent. She took time to help us understand the menu and her timing of the delivery of the components of our dinner was perfect. All of the food was very good, but Brittany saved the best entree for the finale... take nabe. We included the wagyu short-rib with our take nabe, and the dish was superb! A close second was the 72 Hour Wagyu short rib nigiri, followed by Brittany’s suggestion of the P-38 roll.
Thank you Uchiko, and Brittany.
