Chef Tyson Cole, winner of the 2011 James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef Southwest--Thank you Uchi and Uchiko family and friends for your support!
Uchi showcases the culinary talents of executive chef and sushi master Tyson Cole, winner of the "best new chef in America 2005" by Food and Wine magazine. His exciting menu expands on the Japanese tradition with new flavors and influences. Uchi means "house," and like many sushi bars in Japan, Uchi is located in a refurbished old home. Its vibrant design adds a fresh dimension to the neighborhood and has been warmly received by Austin's diverse dining crowd.
Uchi accepts a very limited number of reservations and reserves the majority of the dining room for walk-in availability. Most seating is done on a first-come, first-serve basis. All parties must be complete before being seated.
What Insiders Are Saying
An adventurous Japanese restaurant we love so much we'd consider buying property nearby.
Uchi has been our favorite restaurant since opening. And since the beginning the staff has been outstanding. They are always welcoming and provide incredible service. We have become very attached to John over the years and consider him part of our Uchi experience!!! Uchi is a gem!!!
Our waiter Mike was great! He was informative and helped with navigating the menu. The tasting menu was excellent.
Unbelievable sashimi, nigiri and most of all, service! We had an incredible dining experience which will be difficult to replicate. Our exceptional server, Shirin, really made our dinner a true “experience”. We shared a mutual foodie love fest for which I almost kissed her at the end of the night but settled for a few hugs. Thank you Uchi and Shirin for an AMAZING dining experience!
My advice is (if you have the budget, of course)allow your waiter to pick your dishes. You will get the absolutely best of what the restaurant has to offer. Staff and food are absolutely the best in town.
Fantastic & delicious. We went omakase for our anniversary
Uchi was a fun date spot! Great food and good service
We’ve heard great things about Uchi and we’re anxious to finally try it. Our server was excellent but the food was just okay. We may have caught them on a bad night but both my husband and I got very sick the same night. Probably good for others but we won’t be returning.
Snobby staff. We had a reservation for 4 and our table was available but they wouldn’t seat us for 20 minutes until our 4th part member arrived. Food was high quality and fresh. but tiny tiny portions. This place is just not worth the hype. Waitress was nice but service was slow.
This was the best sushi I'd ever had... and in the heart of Texas!
As always, a great experience. We really appreciated the separate vegetarian menu. We were well looked after and the food was excellent.
Uchi should be six stars! The food was just phenomenal. Parking is limited however.
Every single time without fail Uchi continues to impress us. Down to the little details. It’s such a delight to eat there and experience the place. The staff goes above and beyond. Happy to spend my money there every time. Oak grilled edamame, HH specials, scallops, sushi, the drinks and more. We will continue to eat here.
The most delicious sushi and sashimi in all of Austin plus foie dishes. SO GOOD. Service is always impeccable. Thank you for making my daughter's 18th birthday dinner so awesome!
We went to celebrate our wedding anniversary and it was wonderful. While the tables were close to each other and it was hard to hear due to the noise from others close by, the food and service more than made up for it. Since we had not been before, we let the waiter pick a few options knowing our preferences and it was wonderful. Everything he chose was fantastic and we loved the suggestions on how to pair/eat the servings. It truly was a fantastic meal.
Incredible food unlike any other suchi I've ever had! John, our waiter was equally incredible!
We had an incredible meal at Uchi. If you are a sushi lover, look no further. We ordered so many different types of fish, and each one was absolutely tremendous, melt in your mouth good. Each was also topped with a thoughtful, interesting flavor, from browned butter to jalepenos, and each pairing was perfect.
It has more than energetic noise level. It is so load it is hard to enjoy. Managers could do a much better job of asking loud tables to be more aware.
DeLICIOUS sushi, incredible service, lovely atmosphere. Their happy hour is phenomenal, so I absolutely recommend trying to catch that! Even if sushi isn’t your favorite, you’ll enjoy it here. Left satisfied and impressed.
Hadn't been in a while but was reminded why it's the best!
One of the best meals I’ve ever had. Uchi exceeded my every expectation!!! Killer and unbelievable. I can’t wait to go back next time I’m in Austin.
It was my 30th!
Birthday for Derek!
We sat at the sushi bar and it was top notch. Naomi handled or sushi orders, while Mollie took care of our drinks. Amazing food, great service, and a fun conversation with Naomi. Definitely going back!
Simply the best!
Dined here several times. Great food, superb service...always. Make reservations.
Great fusion of flavors. Excellent service by hostess and waitstaff. Only disappointment was the edamame; we asked for spicy edamame but received bland edamame sprinkled with seasoning.
The food here was delectable. The taster menu took myself and my date for a ride of flavor neither of us were ready for! It was a truly amazing experience. I will be back for the oysters and tuna.
Food was great! Highly suggest ordering a variety of items and splitting between the group. Brussels sprouts were wonderful as well as the sushi rolls. Overall the food was fantastic, however the service was very odd and left the experience lacking. Our waiter rushed through the menu and ran off countless times before we could even respond or ask questions. There was a feel for the need to turn tables and rush us out of there. It really left the entire experience lacking and a bit disappointing after getting rave reviews and recommendations from friends.
John was the man!
We did the 10 course tasting. We gave our server, Nolan, some basic instructions on things we would prefer not to have served (no eel, octopus or urchin), and one thing we really wanted to have (hot rock with waygu), but otherwise said we’d love to be surprised. Nolan not only ensured our wishes were respected but also that all of our courses were served promptly when ready and with the right amount of regularity. Ask for Nolan when making reservations! We immediately made reservations for three months later when we’ll celebrate the birthdays of our two adult children with their spouses. Oh, one more thing - corkage is uncommon in Texas ... Uchi allows it, and charges $20/bottle corkage if you choose to bring your own wine.
The food was amazing and the service was outstanding. Pricy, but the best sushi in town and plenty of creative small bite options.
The food at Uchi is always delicious and enjoyable. This was our first visit to the Austin location but have been to Uchiko in Austin and to Uchi in Dallas. When brought to the table the dishes are pleasant to the eye. Presentation is important especially in Japanese cuisine. Taste is also important and the dishes at Uchi, no matter what they are, do not disappoint. Our server was attentive and fun to work with. She suggested the special for dessert but we chose something off of the menu. When the dessert was brought to the table there were 2 desserts, the one that we ordered and the special. Our server felt that I was leaning towards the special while my husband preferred the dessert off of the menu so thought she would give us a taste if both. Her kind gesture was well appreciated. Uchi should be everyone’s destination for dinner.
Hands down the best restaurant in Austin. My wife and I always do the chef tasting and are never let down. The nigiri is always the best part. Their kara kyuri cocktail is also excellent.
Very very expensive for what you get. Get ready to to hurried through dinner the staff over does it with too many questions and too many visits to your table. Very very expensive
Always amazing service and food. I have never been disappointed!
As always, the best customer service and dining experience. We come every year for our anniversary not only because it’s sentimental but because how great the experience is. I am so impressed with the customer service skills that I want to bring all my new hires in just to watch how hospitality is done. The way the staff waits for you to walk by or folds your napkin when you get up. By far the best customer service!
Best restaurant ever!
Everything from the moment that I made the reservation, to the seating, to the meal, to paying the bill ... everything was phenomenal. I highly recommend that you reserve yourself a spot (a month in advance,) for every single special occasion. Every course was exquisitely presented and every bite was delectable. And for one of Austin's priciest restaurants, the bill was surprisingly reasonable. Great experience all around!
We had great service starting with the person on the phone that I called to tell that we would be late (b/c our Uber took the wrong route), to our waitress who was knowledgeable and friendly. She was an excellent server. The food was amazing. It was a wonderful place to have our date night.
This was one of the best meals I’ve ever had. I was solo and sat at the sushi bar and opted for the open ended chefs tasting. Seriously fantastic. Here you’re able to watch the skilled chefs at their craft. Sit here; you will not be disappointed. It’s much more than dining, it’s and experience. My meal was equivalent to a small car payment...but I do not regret it in the slightest. Thank you for such a great experience.
