Trapper's Chop House

The ambiance was not so all what I expected. Hidden on the fourth floor of a nice, but nothing special Holiday Inn. Big bar area with sports on televisions. Not the romantic steakhouse atmosphere I expected. The service was also lackluster. Not bad but not upscale and given the restaurant was almost empty, the service could have been more attentive. The steak Oscar was outstanding and the filet on the volcanic rock was delicious and fun to cook at the table. I’d return for the food but the atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired.
You have to have order from the Romancing The Stone part of the menu. It is so much fun to cook your premium steak on a hot lava rock!
It took way too long to get our food and the piano music was a bit too loud couldn't hear over it.
We made a reservation about an hour before we went in and were seated without problem. The shrimp appetizer left a little to be desired (4 large shrimp that tasted like they'd been defrosted from frozen). Our entrees were delicious. We decided to forgo the stone experience at our table and had the kitchen prepare our steaks. They were prepared just as we asked.
Not the quietest, most romantic place, but the piano player was great and we enjoyed our anniversary dinner.
Noise level overrode all other complaints. Waiter was not the best but could have lived with him. Seemed to be a lot of women couples eating there that night. Neither good nor bad; just a comment.
I met an old friend who was visiting town at Trapper's for dinner. We were professionally greeted, and sat at a nice table. Our server, Michael, was fantastic and provided great information and recommendations. We each order the Elk tenderloin dinner which was properly cooked to our liking and was delicious. Our sides of creamed spinach and sautéed mushroom were a nice complement to the meal. The one critique I have is that the side vegetables that accompanied the meal, carrots/asparagus, were barely Luke Warm when the meal arrived, and cold after just a few bites. I didn't finish them.
Wine list was respectable and resonably priced.
I would recommend and return for a future meal.
We live in the area and have been at Trapper's several times since they originally opened and owned by Terrell Davis (Broncos). Food and service is always consistent and good. Live music is a treat and typically more of a background / non-obtrusive variety, which is pleasing. Easy to have a private conversation without crazy "background" noise. The wine list is very good!!!
We made a reservation at 8pm for our Anniversary. we were sat right away but we never got waited on. No one brought water to our table offered to take our drink order, or said they would be right with us. My husband made eye contact with several waiters but no one ever cam over so we got up and left after 25 minutes of waiting and went to Saltgrasd next door where we received excellent immediate service.
Very nice. my steak was somewhat tough but tastey. I had made our reservation to celebrate our 63 rd wedding anniversary. The front desk was aware of the occasion, but our excellent server was not. dissappointed
There were four of us and each person ordered a different dinner and all entrees were amazing and we all took food home. It was a quiet night at the restaurant, probably due to the fact that there was a Broncos pre-season game and a Rockies game. All of us have been there before on a very busy night, so it was kind of nice to have the quiet. The guitar player/singer was entertaining and music was soft enough that you could have a nice conversation. We were also surprised with a free birthday desert that was big enough for all of us.
I wish I could remember our servers name but she was incredible very attentive and great menu knowledge! The staff worked well as a team and the live music was amazing ! Thank you for a great experience! I am in the service industry and my family doesn’t go to fine dining very often but I was beyond impressed with the food the staff and the wine of course ! Thank you trappers for taking such great car of us !
Food and service was great! There was a fair amount of noise coming from the bar area.
The food and service were excellent. We had dinner early 5:30 pm on a week night so it was busy but not totally full. The bread they brought to the table was outstanding. Everything about the meal was wonderful. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu items. Would highly recommend for special occasions.
The food was amazing and the ambiance was delightful! It is a little pricey, but well worth it for a special occasion.
Super unique, really loved the food and the atmosphere!
Great menu and unique steak experience with stone platter
Romancing the stone is fun, cooking your own steak on a lava rock, but you can have the kitchen do it. Service is great. The sweet potato mashers laced with chipotle is delicious. Not cheap, but worth it for something special.
We were visiting from NY and wanted to take everyone, including 3 kids to a nice dinner. The food was delicious, especially the steaks, which were cooked perfectly. The jalapeño cheddar mashed potatoes were great. The kids menu has a very affordable and extensive selection. The portions are big too. We had cocktails which were very nice. The service was impeccable by Gabrielle. The view is beautiful. I will visit again next time I go to Colorado.
Overall this place was nice the menu had great options but the steaks we ordered were over done...by a lot and we waited a long time to get them. Service was amazing though our waiter really was great!
The food was very good ! Service was on the spot. Temperature in the restaurant was a bit warm, then seated next to a window (with shade down) made it even warmer. Not too many tables were occupied (6;30 Sat. Night) so noise level was good. Live piano player was nice — better if he didn’t sing. 😆
Probably my favorite steakhouse in the area. Good service, great views.
Service was overall good but seemed a little pushy just wanted to relax and enjoy the evening with friends
Piano was way too loud as we will sit further next time. Could not really carry a conversation without speaking loud enough to be understood especially across the booth
Food and service experience is always good here. The need was for a table of five, which meant they could only put us at a table for six, it was close to the windows, past the fireplace. I was facing serving caddy’s, a table with a stack of linens and the kitchen with a bunch of coffee pots along with pots that had half dead plants lining the wall. For most restaurants I would have asked to sit somewhere else, but didn’t want to inconvenience the group. This is not a cheap place to eat and I expect more. Cover this stuff, put up a screen, a curtain or just think about the dining experience. I’m sure that the employees just walk by and stop thinking about it, but management needs to address this given that the meal and drinks were about 300 bucks and I would not have that at Shanahan’s, Elway’s, Del Frisco’s, Morton’s, Ruth’s Chris, etc.
Food was great view was nice service was outstanding. We had a great time!
I chose the restaurant because it was a place in the new neighborhood that I just bought a home in and it sounded a bit fancy. I didn't realize it was in a hotel. It required reservations and wasn't even close to busy. Reservations and expensive for a restaurant who let people in wearing Captain Caveman t-shirts and flip flops. I was very disappointed, expecting to feel important celebrating being a new homeowner with my friends. I might as well biggie sized my fries with them.
Usually I would give them a five star but we three ordered the same thing, Pick 2-3 dinner with Steak and scallops. My steak was over cooked and I really don't like some of the seasoning. Scallops were not cooked enough, no flavor also. I ended up taking most of the scallops home along with the steak and fixed today so it provided another meal.
Had wedge salad which was really good and then of course the desserts were wonderful.
Will be back although it is REALLY PRICEY,especially the wine.
Thanks for my birthday dessert.
Various meets are offered that are fantastic! Would recommend for people that like elk, bison and cow.
Great place a little over on pricing.
Our favorite place. Service always fantastic
Everyone we take there is so impressed
Awesome Awesome Awesome
Excellent food and service. Our waitress-Heather-was friendly, courteous and excellent. The food was great and reasonably priced and we really enjoyed cooking on the stone.
I highly recommend it.
The restaurant was nice and the server was friendly. The steaks were done well, however the sides that I had were mediocre at best: roasted root veggies that were not quite done all the way and didn't have much seasoning, and mashed potatoes that tasted and felt suspiciously like they started out as flakes. They had nice desserts. Overpriced though, considering the side dishes, and the fact that the $44 plate did not include salad, and the salad which cost extra was basically no-frills, greens and veggies with a few pecans.
We arrived and were immediately seated. This was our 40th Wedding Anniversary. We had heard good reviews so we figured we try the restaurant out and we were both delighted and we intend to bring guests back thank you again.
We were excited to try Trappers for the first time. It was Mother’s Day, so we made our reservation to ensure we would have a nice booth to dine in. That’s pretty much where the excitement stopped! First thing we noticed when we walked in the door was the outdated decor. That and the fact there was no way on God’s green earth we needed a reservation. In hind sight those two red flags should have compelled us to turn around and take the elevator back down to the lobby. But we didn’t; so here’s the rest of the story. Their ‘starter bread’ with the cute side dish of butter balls was clearly the highlight of the night. The wedge salad was good, but let’s face it, all they really did was cut it into quarters, sprinkle on some dressing, onion crisps and serve. For the main course, I opted for the full slab of ribs, and although the sauce had a great flavor, the actual meat left something to be desired. The better half had a hankering for blackened salmon, but clearly could have gotten a better fillet at the local Walmart and prepared it ourselves. We skipped dessert as we figured we might as well cut our losses. Paid our $100 tab, added a tip of 30% as the service was a solid 4 out of 5 (and the meal prep wasn’t his fault).
All-in-all, I’m forced to give it 1 STAR because I can’t give a .5... Might be a great place for a burger and sports viewing, but we may never now as I’ll be hard pressed to ever go back. Hope this helps, and certainly hope you have a better experience should you decide to give it a try! Cheers!!
I bought my family here for Mother's day. Every bit of the experience was pleasant. We loved cooking on the hot lava stones. The kids ate it up.
Our dinner was fine but I'm disappointed in the staff when we left our table. I had ordered a bottle of wine with the intention of corking it and taking the remainder home. I had about one glass out of the whole bottle and unfortunately my husband & I both forgot to grab the bag. I called back to to see if it had been set aside and was told no. I find it hard to believe that the staff wouldn't have time to get the bag to us before we left the restaurant especially since my husband used the bathroom on the way out and we had to wait for the elevator to take us to the 1st floor. Our server was fine but I'm rating Service low because of the whole experience.
Friendly, inviting atmosphere. Stefan was great! Very proactive. Nice food too!
The steaks are very good here. They had a piano player playing music.
Great like always
Keep up the good work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love your Rib Eye - this time I had lobster and it was good. My husband had chicken dish and it was a bit dry. Unfortunately, the food was tepid. I'm going to stick with rib eye from now on - but I do rave about the rib eye to everyone I talk to. It was not our most favorite time. We've eaten at your restaurant about 15 times.............the other 14 were super.
