We had a great meal from start to finish! We were greeted warmly and seated quickly. Melissa waited on us most of the meal and was very professional. The crabcake app was delicious and I am very picky about my crabcakes! I had dover sole that was beautifully presented and my boyfriend had halibut which he loved. Stephen also served us and he had such a wonderful manner! The view of course was lovely!! Absolutely give it a try. You will be happy that you did!!
Delicious meal while in town. Would love to go back!
A great restaurant in a great location overlooking San Diego Bay - great sea food choices on the menu but plenty of other choices for non-seafood lovers. Very friendly, helpful, attentive staff. A little on the pricey side but worth every cent.
I do not ordinarily write reviews— a little unfair since I read them. But this is different. This is a special restaurant with a great view, a wonderful staff, and a lovely ambience. I was staying at the Manchester Grand Hyatt for a conference and checked out restaurants in walking distance. In addition to the hotel restaurants, there were a lot of upscale chain restaurants nearby but they offered the same menu you can get anywhere. But the Top of the Market was different. Unlike the others it is right on the water with a lovely view. The menu was no more expensive than the other options while offering more variety. I ended up going three nights in a row. Each night I had a fabulously fresh salad and a wonderful meal— fresh halibut one night, king crab legs another, and Dover sole the third. All excellent. I was on a business trip by myself, and the staff made me feel welcome and included. The negatives? I had to leave before the fourth night and now am at home thinking I really need to “cut back.” But no regrets.
the food was excellent. the service was flawless. the view from the deck over the bay was spectacular.
unfortunately, we were seated next to a couple who were gossiping about co-workers and being very nasty. They were loud....so no option but to hear it!!!
Once they left it was perfect!
I was in San Diego for a business conference and heard about Top of the Market from the harbor cruise. They described how the fish was very fresh (swordfish caught locally) and certain selections were seasonal (halibut fresh from Alaska). They were prompt with water and bread, attentive to my drink selection, and were very knowledgeable about the various menu options. I selected the Caesar salad with fresh anchovy and finely ground Parmesan, and the delicious halibut, tender and flaky with a spring pea risotto and crispy Maitake mushrooms. The location was perfect for watching the sunset.
Food was all high quality and deliscious. A bit pricy bit nice ambiance except for the loud children at the table right by us. Wait staff was friendly and efficient.
Awsome view s service! Great place to take out of town guests!
Our experience wasn’t so good. We got sat at a tiny table not enough room for our dinner plates drinks and the bread that came. Fitting our bottle of wine we ordered was awkward. The table beside us was belligerent, which not their fault but they did not offer to move us just apologized. Restaurant wasn’t full. Staff not so friendly just blah. Food wasn’t horrible but I wouldn’t eat it again either.
Food was awesome, our server Ben was excellent. He was able to recommend a perfect wine for my girlfriend n answered every question we had.
Food and service were ok but not worth the hassle to park. Parking was atrocious: valet was full and we ended up 15 mins late to our reservation because we had to park at the midway and walk. That alone will deter me from coming back again.
First time visitor. Went for my birthday and they forgot my birthday but there were 2 other celebrating BD that they remembered. Seated next to buss station. Oh well
Large portions. Expect $100 per guest. Excellent flavor and presentation with one exception. Caesar salads was wilted, way too much dressing, worst in town. Grilled octopus was exceptional. Grilled swordfish was exceptional.
Great location, good view. Service to our table was excellent. However other servers were constantly hitting the seat, slamming menus on the seat back and swearing about having to do their job.
Haven’t decided whether to give another chance. Kettner Exchange is way way better service, flavors, and value, but not as good as view.
Hope you have a better experience.
The location was perfect. The ambiance was perfect. The food was exquisite. The service was impeccable. I highly recommend "Top of the Market" to anyone who loves seafood or just great food in general. Perfect for a date, business meeting or special occasion. The staff was attentive, fun and friendly. We felt comfortable and cozy.
Great food and amazing atmosphere. Our waiter was outstanding!!!
The view was beautiful and the staff was great. The only drawback was the food. I had the lobster bisque, very salty and my crab cake was bland. Total let down!
We love the food and the service. They were very nice and kind. But we did not get a table with great ocean view as we asked when we make reservation here.
Staff were welcoming and friendly. Service was attentive. Food was very good - primarily fish although there was a lamb and steak option. Only disappointment was key lime desert. Not terrible but not what you'd expect. Everything else was excellent.
We were made to feel very special for our 47th wedding anniversary from the time we checked in at the front desk through our meal until we left. The special menu, card and dessert was totally unexpected and appreciated.
AMAZING food, service, view, everything! Super accommodating as well, which is great for me since I have dietary restrictions. Love the special touches to the menus and dessert for our anniversary! Highly recommend!
We visited this restaurant at the recommendation of a friend while we were visiting in San Diego and it was wonderful. Great service, a lovely menu and nice views. We started with the Crab Cake appetizer and I had the Halibut and my husband had the Swordfish and both were great. We both had the Chocolate Hazelnut Bar for dessert and it was 2 pieces per serving so we could have split it but we certainly did not leave any on the plate. We had a nice bottle of Pinot Noir with dinner and some Scotch and Port with dessert. We had a great dinner and would certainly return if we were back in San Diego.

Went here for Easter Dinner. Our waiter was wonderful. Food was good but not great. Fish was dry and the Cobb salad was unimpressive.
The sampler from the raw bar was outstanding. That and a few glasses of Sauvignon Blanc made a fabulous Easter.
Trent (at the door) is the consummate gentleman and host! This place just rocks everything they do. We even ordered items not on the menu and they accommodated perfectly. In my top 3 in San Diego! Do it!
This was our second time dining here and we absolutely loved everything!! From the host/hostesses, our server, the food, the view, everything was phenomenal! I love this place so much!
Great view. Our server (Erin), was the best. Very knowledgeable and efficient.
We always have a GREAT meal at Top of the Market. Our favourite restaurant in SD. Sometimes just to grab a drink and appetiser at bar or dining room for full meal. Staff is very friendly and always ensuring you have a great time. Mediterranean touch to some dishes is EXCELLENT. Like the Brussel sprouts! So good!we always get the smoked fish platter asa an appetiser. Love it!
First contact with the Hostess at the reception desk was warm and friendly; all the servers were gracious and attentive; appetizers, salads, main course and desert were timed perfectly; and special little touches like our menu printed with my wife's name, and the "on the house" birthday treat for my wife at the end of our meal provided for a very memorable evening. Semper Fi, and God Bless to the entire team at Top of the Market.
We had a lovely table looking out on the harbor in a small glassed-in room. It was very private because there were not many patrons there. Our waiter was very attentive and the food was delicious.
Anniversary dinner was excellent, both the swordfish and the ribeye were superb. The headers on our menus read Happy anniversary, and we received a complimentary happy anniversary dessert. Attention to detail, as well as the service were above and beyond. We will definitely be back, thank you top of the fish market
Second time in a week. Excellent! Have the Brussel sprout and artichoke appetizer!!!
Really great view and nice walk from our hotel. Loved the stuff to see on the way. Food great, service warmed up along the way. Great desserts!
Classy, elegant setting with water views. Impeccable service. Great wine list. Lobster was a bit dry. Smoked fish ap was exceptional. Surprised us with an anniversary dessert dish. Well done.
We were slightly disappointed with this restaurant which we visited after good reviews. The food was OK but not great - we have certainly eaten much better Dover Sole elsewhere. We had asked for a dry Chardonnay but the one we were given was demi-sec at best. But service was good and ambience fine.
The food was just meh. For the price I was expecting more flavorful dishes. Our service was amazing though and our poor waiter had his hands full, but was wonderful!
Fish and chips were delicious! Creme Brûlée was the best I’ve ever had! Superb service!
A great anniversary experience. The food was exquisite and our server was a true professional. Our next San Diego trip will include Top of the Market.
It was amazingggg. Me and my girlfriend thought everything was amazing
I had often taken visitors to the Fish Market Restaurant and decided to try Top of the Market for a special occasion. Outstanding service and view. Fish dinners accompanied by tasty vegetables, all delicious. Wait staff checked on us throughout our meal. Make a reservation!
