We walked in and found out they no longer serve steamed oysters at the dining room tables. They offered to move us but we had a party of 10 with some children and the high top and placement for conversation was not going to work. The restaurant decor and furnishings, especially flooring needs good cleaning, painting, refinishing. Door to back patio had cracks in the glass and seemed dangerous.
Unexpectedly quiet that night, four of us dined on the fried flounder dinner, the grilled combination platter (blackened shrimp and scallops), and the shrimp scampi... and each dish was outstanding! For appetizers we had the alligator (excellent) and crab cakes (very good). Portions were big enough that dessert was not an option. Great spot, and very nearby. A bit hard to find within MacGregor Village, but worth the search.
We had an early dinner, at 5pm, on a Sunday. The restaurant was quiet at that hour, but by 6pm the restaurant was full and still was not noise level was mediate. The customer service was outstanding, workers truly care about the customer! If you sit at the Oyster bar they will open your oysters directly in front of you. Delicious! I recommend the Tony's Oyster Bar and Grill for family, date nigh, girl's night out, or a special celebration. It is more of a sports bar rather than a quant romantic cozy restaurant. Thanks to everyone there for helping to make our special occasion very pleasant.
Food was very good and excellent service.
Britney was the most attentive and efficient server I've had their. Thank you!
Waitress was great, red snappper was dry, lukewarm and bland. The king crab legs were good. This was our anniversary celebration and would not recommend for special occasion. We've dined at the bar last year and was great.
Went here the first time for Valentine's Day. The restaurant and service was very good. The Oysters amazing. The ambiance of the restaurant would be much nicer with low key music to living up things.
Made a reservation on Open Table. Seated quickly in a booth. Waited 17 minutes and left. No one ever even came to our section. Believe all hands were on deck setting up a large group.
Great food, drinks, and live music. Stone Age Romeos always put on a great show and worth the trip.
I'm from New Orleans and I'm generally skeptical of restaurants who claim to serve New Orleans dishes, but Tony's does a good job. I've had their gumbo and blackened catfish and fried catfish. They were all very good.
I recommend Tony's as a nice place to meet friends or just have a good meal.
The Sunday special is the way to go. 1/2 price on the seafood is a great deal.
We have eaten at this restaurant previously. Always great food. Sometimes noise level is sometimes an issue for us. But Sunday evening seemed perfect to us.
Casual dining, good seafood. Maybe they were understaffed as table service was quite slow. Would probably return to try the oyster bar.
Fabulous wait staff. Great food. I love it always.
very good value; excellent appetizers and service.
We loved it and be back soon.
The food was okay. The hostess was a little rude I felt. She said I made the reservation late and there was another reservation that was at 8:30. She said can you all be finished in an hour and a half. I don’t think anyone should be rushed from there meal as well as there were several seats available. I’m not sure I will return.
We really enjoyed ourselves at Tony's. We celebrated my daughter's birthday and it was wonderful. We had a mixed group ages 4 to 83 and everyone was comfortable. The sea food was wonderful and the portions were plentiful .
Great restaurant and oyster bar. Service was excellent.
The food was ok but I like most everything well done . The portions were small, for $26 I got 4 shrimp , 3 scallops , a crab cake, red beans and rice and one other side I didn't touch. The crab cake was lacking in flavor and looks.
Oysters were a highlight and food was OK. But, very loud interior set-up, zero decor.
The waitress was easily one of the worst I've ever had. She misquoted market prices for Crab legs by 33% and then basically left us without beverages until we had to beg for them all night. The food overall was pretty good, but when your told by your waitress something is $30 and then your bill shows $40. That's unacceptable. Also the restaurant really appears in need of some upkeep. Not a bad restaurant, just a very poor experience.
We were celebrating a birthday and had 9 folks. We had a 6:45 reservation and had a great table and great service. However, around 8pm, the noise level increased and the crowd coming in was so loud we had to leave. We couldn't hear our own conversations at our own table! I found the customers coming in at that time to be extremely rude to the other patrons still dining. Perhaps the hostess could have controlled this better. I'm not sure I would have dinner there again for that reason.
Great place for a Saturday night. Food was good, service was fast and great. Live music afterwards with a good crowd.
Food was great as always. It took 25 minutes to get the steamed clams due to only having on steamer working.
We will b back.
We've visited 4 or 5 times. Great experience each time, wonderful staff and tasty food.
The food here was good, not anything special. The atmosphere needs a major update. The daily food specials provide some decent values, we had crab legs on Mondays special.
Go here often. Prices very reasonable. Great oysters on the half shell. Good Cajun selections. And seafood. Good wine prices recommended
Tony's is looking old and dated. This previously had one of might favorite restaurants. I was embarrassed that I had suggested that we go there. My guests were not at all impressed.
As our go to restaurant Tony's was great as usual. Greeted promptly and and seated where we liked. Our server Brittany has made our dining experience pleasurable many times. A personality to enhance your evening. Not a cookie cutter trained robot. Our meals we're excellent. Timing of appetizers salad and meals was right on. Our server never let us want for anything We have taken out of town guests and they have always liked it. We have tried many different items on menu and have enjoyed all. You cannot go wrong at Tony's Ask for Brittany as your server and you'll not be disappointed
Again, I enjoyed my visit as I have previous times. If anyone likes good music of all genre, try Tony's. The music is always surprisingly good. The bands are interactive and always leave you wanting for more. Hats off to Tony's for consistently providing good food, service and entertainment.
Restaurant has gone down since our last visit. Tired looking. Service was slow even though the place was empty. Server was very nice though.
Not sure what others see in this restaurant.
4 of us went to dinner and each ordered a separate meal. Lobster tail, shrimp and grits, flounder etc.. each was more tasteless than then next. We left most of the meal on our plates. Certainly not worth trying again.
We went to Tony's for my boyfriend's birthday dinner because he wanted fried oysters. The food was awesome and service was excellent!
There was no atmosphere, seemed mostly dated. Our waitress was likeable and the raw oysters were decent, but it went downhill from there. One of us ordered the Crawfish etouffee - which was tasteless. I actually had never had bad etouffee, but there's always a first time. Another ordered shrimp and grits, again not good. I had blackened redfish that was ok. Another was happy with their fried oysters platter. All in all, a disappointing meal and we won't bother to go back.
I speak for my wife and myself. As a first time guest, and a seafood fan, I've had better and I've had worse meals. Maybe my expectations were set too high but, Being in Cary, across from a high end neighborhood, I had higher expectations. I consider Tony's to be slightly less than average. I've been to so called "hole in the wall" restaurants that had better tasting food. Tony's had a somewhat bland taste. I was disappointed only because I set my expectations too high as stated above. The price was only slightly higher than average.
The food was mediocre, but the service was wonderful.
Ate at Tony's on 6/2.Been 2-3 years since I had been there. Nothing really negative, but on the other hand nothing wowed me. Portions are large, prices not bad. If I return I will go for the oyster bar or cajun dishes. Both my wife and I had something other then that and as I said, just OK. Good beer list, surprising to me the wine list was very minimal.
The food is always delicious. We ate at the Oyster Bar. After 2 hours of eating and drinking and talking our middle aged backs were all sore! There are no backrests on the stools. The ladies were also sad that they did not have hooks under the table to store their purses. Tony's needs to make that area more comfortable.
