Enjoy American Southwestern cuisine featuring salads, sandwiches, pasta, fresh seafood, mesquite-grilled steaks, and house-made desserts. One menu is served all day. Tonto Bar & Grill, gives diners a view of modern desert life with a peek into the past. The restaurant sits on what was once Native American land and later used as a stopover camp for the U.S. Cavalry, and the building itself was part of the prestigious Rancho Mañana dude ranch. It’s chock-full of the charm of earlier eras, displaying ranching implements, vintage 1940s photos and original architecture. Today, friendly service, fine casual cuisine, and comfortable atmosphere combine for a rustic yet upscale dining experience.
Terrible service food was bad the chicken was so dry and chewy no flavor .
Can't believe it gets such good reviews.
Would not recommend or return.
My wife's chicken was too dry to eat and comped by the restaurant.
Our server did not mention daily specials, we heard them from the next table after we'd ordered.
Margaritas are good
We've eaten here for around 20 years and tonights miss will not stop us from coming back.
The manager was engaging and checked with us a few times to see that our dining experience was perfect. The food was excellent!
Always enjoy Tonto Bar and Grill! The atmosphere is inviting, western, Historic and fun!
The food is excellent and the service perfect!
Thank you for the opportunity.
I felt right at home sitting by the fireplace with a new friend on my birthday.
The food was delicious, Portion adequate.
FriedOnion somewhat thin and dry, perhaps designed to be that way.
Overall, I had a pleasant evening.
I would love to play golf at the course soon pending snow bird price decrease.
It was our first visit to the Tonto Bar and Grill. I’d seen the ad in Images magazine and the fish dish that was on the cover spoke to me all week. “Come eat me. Come eat me.” So we did! We were able to make reservations the same day which was great bc the place was packed! We had a nice table in the main dining room and didn’t wait long for our soup or meals.
It is a very loud place, so intimate conversation was out, but loud isn’t a deal breaker for us. The only thing we weren’t crazy about, and it’s not enough to lower any star rating, is that the average age of the patrons seemed to be over 70. I think it’s wonderful that everyone was having such a great time, and the place was packed. But as for my husband and I, we probably won’t be back because we felt like we were in the wrong place. And that was uncomfortable. I’d looked around bc it was obvious from the moment we were seated. I only found 2 other tables that were close to our age. If the TB&G are still around in another 10-15 years when we hit the age demographics for the place, we will be back.
The food was really good. The service was amazing, the prices were fine for the meals they were offering, and the portions were good sized.
Very noisy, rude customers, cussing with the F words . The value of the meal below what we paid . The waitress was descent .
Love the location and atmosphere. Food was fair. Needs improvement. Dinners were not tasteful. Kind of bland.
We had the walleye fish dinner, which was tasty and the fish cooked perfectly, but the carrots were very undercooked, could hardly be cut with the dull knives we were given. Bread and salad were ala carte,, not provided. A very nice birthday dessert was provided to me, however, which was appreciated.
Extensive menu and wine list, something to please everyone. The salsa starter was a generous serving and was enough for 4 people to share. Our entrees included steak, tacos, veggie platter and gemelli pasta. All were well executed except for the pasta which was overcooked (on the verge of mushy) including the chicken. The creme brûlée was nice.
Very nice experience. We felt a little rushed as they only had one table set up for six available, another group was waiting in the wings for us to finish. As soon as we realized it we finished our conversations and left but would have enjoyed spending a more leisurely time with our family and friends.

No special occasion
Enjoyed the meal
Steak very dry(served medium)
It was a chilly night in Cave Creek and the hostess sat us right in front of the fireplace! The lights were low, the Prosecco bubbly and the food delicious! Even though our server was slammed with tables she did a great and we had a wonderful dinner. My favorite place in winter or on the patio when it gets warmer!
Great food, exceptional service, in a comfortable clean restaurant.
Always a favorite. Every visit to carefree, I alway plan to eat at Tonto’s. My favorite is to eat outdoors and have that amazing view of the golf course!
Excellent food and service!! Tasty filet and scallops!!
New Year’s Eve dinner with family visiting from East Coast.
Great food, good service, beautiful ambiance!!! We have been coming here for 15+ years & it is consistently good!! We never worry about the food choice !
Good place to bring out-of-town guests for something unique to the area. Would suggest more detail to cleanliness on cleaning up tables and seats. We had to request that staff wipe down the bench seat as it appeared to have something greasy on it.
Food and service was an amazing!
Fun, cozy place with great food and great service!
We just love Tonto Grill. It's a quaint restaurant associated with a vintage resort that has been updated in a wonderful way. Food and drinks are outstanding. A little loud but that's because the room is so quaint.
Absolutely wonderful. Service starting out was a bit slow, but from that point it was awesome. Thank you for a great Christmas Eve.
This our place to take family and friends where we always have a good meal. The ambiance is perfect for visiting and sharing the beautiful setting. We highly recommend enjoying a meal here.
Beautiful setting enjoyed dining on patio. Lunch menu somewhat limited in selections and pricey.
Always tasty food and great service. Love the southwestern decor and the outside patio has nice views.
If you like to sip Mezcal this is the place to go.
outstanding in every way. Food was delicious the service, Brian, in particular, was the best.
I love Tonto Grill...but the noise level Saturday night was deafening. I know that's not their fault but we couldn't even hold a conversation at the table. Disappointing. I will go back when we can eat outside.
The scallop dinner was ordered by two in our group and was EXtremely SALTY! Way overspiced and overpriced. $32 for 3 scallops?
Also I noticed a definite ammonia smell which tells me the scallops were old. I only ate two.
The other person in our group had the Cobb salad with salmon. Lotsa lettuce but not much else and the salmon piece was very small.
We have eaten at Tonto for many years as we are snowbirds and really were disappointed in our meal for the first time ever.
New chef? New management?
Hope next time is better
we've been coming here for years and will continue to dine here often
The vegetable nosh & salads were outstanding! Service is always great!
I had the crab cakes and arugula salad. Best meal I’ve had in a while!!! This is really the best restaurant in Cave Creek if you are looking for exceptional food.
I’ve eaten here several times on vacation, both lunch and dinner. The food and service was excellent. I love the Western decor. I gave it 3 stars for ambiance and high noise level: I went on a cold, rainy early December Friday evening. They had crammed the maximum number of tables and chairs inside, making it difficult for the servers to navigate and raising the noise level very high. Still, due to the excellent food, service, decor, and location, I would still strongly recommend it. I might stay away on busy Fridays and Saturday nights.
great food... too, too noisy in main dining room... will not come on a Friday night again.
love the fish entrees... walleye exceptional
try to figure out a way to get it more cozy and quiet...
drinks are a bit overpriced, but good.
Food was very good, though they claim to be native cuisine, which is certainly not that.
Ambience was quite loud and boring. though we were inside and at night, so we could not see the outdoors.
Service was very good as well.
Overall, I would not go back as the food was expensive and their was no ambience at all.
One of our favorite restaurants for a nice relaxing dinner. The setting is fantastic. Outdoor seating looks over the golf course at the mountains...a really great view. Indoor seating is warm and inviting. It reminds you of being in a grand home's dining room.
The menu is very eclectic and we've never had a bad meal there. It's consistently good in all categories. Our server, Bonnie was attentive but never interfering. It's a place we'll continue to visit on a regular basis.
