Enjoy American Southwestern cuisine featuring salads, sandwiches, pasta, fresh seafood, mesquite-grilled steaks, and house-made desserts. One menu is served all day. Tonto Bar & Grill, gives diners a view of modern desert life with a peek into the past. The restaurant sits on what was once Native American land and later used as a stopover camp for the U.S. Cavalry, and the building itself was part of the prestigious Rancho Mañana dude ranch. It’s chock-full of the charm of earlier eras, displaying ranching implements, vintage 1940s photos and original architecture. Today, friendly service, fine casual cuisine, and comfortable atmosphere combine for a rustic yet upscale dining experience.
Met friends at 6:30 for dinner. We were seated right away although our request to eat on the patio or outside was not honored. Our server took our drink order & water was provided. After we received our drinks, our server took our orders. Our meals were served & we did not see our server again until time for possible dessert orders which we declined. Even our waters were not refilled. We settled our check & continued to visit for a few minutes as there were plenty of open tables. The restaurant is very nice, the food delicious (although the slaw served under the crab cakes was too spicy for my taste), but the service was underwhelming & the parking is difficult at best.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this restaurant..food is consistently wonderful, service is awesome, and dining on the lower patio is the best view and location in the whole city. You will never be disappointed here...it is always wonderful. The ambiance is great, and so lovely to bring out of town guests here...we just love it.
Always good food, Biggest complaint Is they just don’t change the menu up often enough.
Other than that great place
All was excellent. Sitting near the golf course at sunset with javelinas trotting by was lovely.
We have had good experiences in the past at Tonto. On this date we asked for the patio several days in advance. On the day of our reservation I tried to add one person to our party, and could no longer be accommodated on the patio. The mixed drink ordered by one person was terrible, and the food was ok but not as good as in the prior times. Our service was good. Disappointing on this particular evening.
Love this place! We go to this restaurant every time we’re in Arizona. Our friends all enjoy coming there too.
We always enjoy dining at Tonto Bar & Grill - food and service is always great! No complaints here!! Highly recommend for casual dining in a friendly atmosphere...
Our waitress was the nicest ever. The food was delicious as always and we love the Prickly Pear Margaritas and the Tontorito.
Booked on Open Table and specifically asked to be seated outside on patio.
Was confirmed......then when we got there they said NO seating outside available.....some
problem with Open Table reservations. Will NOT use Open Table in the future with specific request....will
book directly. Very disappointing to sit in a stuffy room with beautiful weather and scenery outdoors and guests visiting to enjoy our beautiful weather.
Whenever, we are in Phoenix we dine at Tonto. A table outside is great to enjoy.
Had a great dinner! Loved the steak and cheese and the balsamic fig salad dressing.
Food was delicious, the weather was perfect and aided by a couple of propane heaters. There were a few minor glitches regarding what was ordered/received. Most importantly the staff were great and the food is always something to look forward to. Just wish the restaurant would serve prime rib (not in a sandwich) on a regular basis. Would like to see more variety on the dessert menu for Gluten free and dairy free items. Sherbet is not that much fun. Today with almond milk, cashew milk, etc. perhaps the dessert folks could experiment with some new items.
One of our favorite “go to” places. Always can count on the quality of service and food. The location is great.
We had a wonderful dinner. Mary took excellent care of us, great service!
The food was delicious but we did have some problems. We were seated outside with plastic walls around the seating area. It wasn't especially pretty and the heaters were a little too high for me. Our waiter was friendly but he didn't tell us about the special that evening which would probably would have ordered. When we were eating our appetizers, the main dishes were brought to the table. We sent them back. Our waiter came by and we told him about it. He must have told the manager because she came to our table a few minutes later. She made sure that we would get fresh main dishes when we were ready to eat them.
Overall we had a decent dining experience. I would go back because I believe that it may be better next time.
Our go to spot for out of town visitors. Always a great meal and outstanding service!
Great atmosphere. Great Happy Hour. Well-managed. Night was cold, so we could not seat ourselves outside; but it must be Heaven in warmer months. In cooler weather, there is a problem with acoustics. It is too noisy to talk in the dining room and grill areas.
My Dear friend Jeannie Taxioli introduced me to Tonto Bar and Grill. Her favorite restaurant in Cave Creek. We lost Jeannie in January, so it was a therapeutic Dinner... in memory of her beautiful personality. Wonderful meal, and a nice time remembering times spent with a good friend, who left us too soon. Thanks for a wonderful meal
Sat outside. Excellent scenery. Food and service was great.
Tonto's is our favorite "go to" destination when we have company in town. From the wonderful bar reception from Julie to her "after dinner" cocktail the evening could not be any better.
We arrived early for our reservation and were told to wait. But I overheard that it was possible to eat in the bar and asked if we might be seated there. The hostess encouraged us to do that. But we misunderstood which space was the bar and ended up sitting in another dining room. The server was a bit snarly at the start but relented, let us remain and we had a very good meal and excellent service. We tipped generously in appreciation. Tonto B&G is reliably good food in a lovely setting. Large portions so we each took home enough for the following day's dinner. Once the weather warms up the patio is great
tonto bar and grill was average at best.
the food was greasy and buttery.
we were in cave creek and had to make decision.
could not recommend.
We stopped on a whim on a Saturday night and got a quick rez on open table. Very nice place with patio dining overlooking the golf course. We had the Reuben and Steak sandwich, which were both HUGE and delicious!!
Food and service was good. Only thing I didn't like it is too noisy and hard to hear.
The meal and service were very good. We were disappointed that when I reserved our table i said that it was the special occasion of my wife’s birthday and there was no recognition or mention of her birthday.
I would have given 4 stars for the food however this time my husband and I went we got sick after eating the food. We have been to Tonto grill several times and have always had a positive experience.
We wanted to catch up with 2 friends but 2 other friends were stood up so we enjoyed an evening of six without a hitch.
The view is very nice of the golf course and mountains beyond-catch it at sunset. The service is perfect. We each had a salad. The Cobb was very good. An enjoyable evening.
Great spot. Outdoor patio has great views of the golf course. Staff couldn’t have been more pleasant
This place was AWESOME!! We loved each and every thing we ordered from our apps, to our entrees, even cocktails. This place is a hidden gem if you're headed to the Scottsdale area.
We had excellent service on the lower patio as requested. The disappointment of the evening was the normally wonderful dinner special. Unfortunately, my guests were excited that it was Mahi Mahi, but it was not up to a Tonto standards, as it was overcooked.
Food and service very good. Small glitch on outdoor heaters going off periodically but not really an issue as staff seemed attentive and proactive.
Chili rubbed filet, excellent. Vodka martini with blue cheese stuffed olives at the bar - oh yeah.
Great times and very nice ambiance outside.
This is the kind of place where you mill around in the crowded lobby until 8:00 waiting to be seated for your 7:30 reservation, while five hostesses/hosts bump around behind the desk trying to figure out what is going on, waiters, waitresses, and bus boys scurry back and forth through the lobby, and many tables sit empty. Once you are finally seated, the waitress is friendly and outgoing, but remarkably in-attentive. The menu is very limited, but the food is good (not great). In short, there appears to be a culture problem at a venue starving for management.
Busy night sat outside and were greeted with javelina and a house cab that hit the spot. Exceeded expectations. Dabs were inhaled, walleye was like Wisconsin and the salmon, terrific. Will definitely go again.
Another disappointment not only with their cold food, rude hostesses and long waits despite reservations!!!
Took out of town friends...Good service and food was great... we just spent a little too much time in the bar waiting for our table which ended up being near the kitchen entrance...
We made reservations a day in advance. Requested patio seating. Arrive and sorry no patio seating because you only made the reservation 1day in advance even though there were tables available. Good grief!! Don’t offer patio seating as an option unless you can satisfy the request. We ended up being sat in the bar!! A far cry from the patio
Excellent food. Service fine. Surprised they no longer bring bread with a salad, but only offer basket of bread for a charge, especially in a fairly pricey restaurant.
Rose was amazing! We HATE to be hurried through our dinner. She was amazing and obviously had many tables that were eager to “eat and run”. We are “locals” and appreciate the service and great food -despite the high season of tourism. Thank you Rose and Tonto Grill for your unrelenting desire to provide customer service to not only winter visitors, but to those of us who patronize your restaurant year-around!
Great ambience, especially outside on the patio overlooking the golf course and hills. Always great food and service
