   The Tonga Room is an absolute SF classic and something that you should experience if you have the time when you are in San Francisco. It is a great place for a special dinner or for pre/post dinner drinks. We had dinner before a show at the Orpheum, so it was quieter (before the band played). I love that it has stayed the same for so long.

   Finally a top notch experience. I’ve been there many times before with tourists and others but this was a date, a real date. The Mai Tais were delicious as was the poke appetizer. Both the basil chicken and salmon were very good, the portion size generous. The entertainment was old time tiki bar. The service was efficient, professional and friendly. The setting? There’s only one Tonga Room, the one that we old time San Franciscans can appreciate.

   We have wanted to come here for years so I thought it would be nice to take my husband for his birthday. It was absolutely horrible!! The food was so so bad! And they have the nerve to charge you 50.00 a person to make the reservations! The dishes are horribly over priced and they taste like it was warmed up in the microwave after being cooked beforehand. The server was the only thing that was good but that poor man had to keep apologizing to everyone for the lousy food!!

   Amazing SF institution! Wonderful service and incredible atmosphere! The food was super disappointing and the drinks are terrible. The Tonga Room needs a complete overhaul of their cocktail menu. Maybe they could hire Martin Cate from Smuggler’s Cove to redo their terrible bar program. There is so much potential at the Tonga Room—but they are leaving lots of money on the table by having terrible cocktails (the 1944 Mai Tai doesn’t taste correct and the zombie was even worse).

   I've been staying at the Fairmont for the past 20+ years at this time of year and I always make an evening of the Tonga Room. Nothing like it in the world (that I know of) with tiki interior, a rain storm every so often with thunder and lightning, fab service from Bash my waiter, delicious food and super entertainment from the band, The Island Groove. What a great evening!!

   Very ok. Front of house staff wasn’t terribly polite when we arrived, the menu is limited, and the overall dining experience was lacking. The place has a cool Trader Vic-lite style. That’s about it.

    For the money we paid it was not what we expected. Food was very low quality, very small selection. When you pay for buffet style you expect verity. They could have offered at least complimentary soft drinks for the price. Over all experience was not as expected for New year celebration .
