Drinks were good, but pricey. Service was so so. Food was awful. Hurricane tenderloin was just spicy, no other taste to it. Seafood coconut tasted ok but the calamari was super chewy. Veggie duo said it had mushrooms, but there were 0 mushrooms. All the veggies were undercooked and no taste to them. Kalua pork was just awful, it came in a bowl of grease. The macaroni salad was terrible, no idea why they would serve it like that, it was so sour. We complained and all the manager did was take half off on our entrees that we did not eat. $730 was spent, I have no problem spending money on food, the other night we spent $350 at waterbar for 2 and $650 at Sundance for 4, just ridiculous how the manager handled it. Being in the restaurant industry myself, I was looking forward to this experience and heard the food was bad before going in, but still wanted to check it out. And you guys sure did live up to that word, even our waiter said he wouldn’t eat the food there after we paid the bill. You guys have to do better, it was so disappointing

I don't see why you need reservations, Saturday night and the place was half full. My advice before booking, PLEASE, take a look at the menu because the prices are just too high for what they offer. The food and service don’t match the cost, and I’d rather spend my money somewhere that provides better value. It’s simply not worth it when you leave feeling like you overpaid for a mediocre experience. They charge 15$ PER PERSON for entertainment if you are not staying in the hotel. My bill for 2 people was around $170. Save your money!

The Tonga Rose it's a very special place a San Francisco original the perfect place to make any occasions special and a lot of fun. Food is great and the service is top notch. The staff is attentive without hovering.. my friends and family always have a great time at the Fairmont and the Tonga room

The Tonga Room has incredible ambience, music, and drinks, but it could be so much better if they improved the food a bit. My husband ordered the Kahlua Pork dinner, and it was just mushy and tasted processed. The mac salad was bland and unremarkable. My vegetable skewers were okay, but overpriced at 30 something for just vegetables and rice. I realize the prices are higher due to this being the "Tonga Room," but the food should then be on par with the price and uniqueness and this historical venue.

We travelled from the Uk and had my wife’s birthday here. I had rebooked a table after it being recommended by local colleagues. It was an absolutely amazing and memorable experience. My wife, family and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was a little nervous it wouldn’t live up to expectations but the staff, servers, music and food were second to none. Tasty food and drinks alongside such a superb band in the unique surrounding. A truly exceptional experience and we all loved it. They made my wife’s birthday on to remember in such a unique setting.

Last time we came there was 20 years ago. You would think the place gets some type of upgrade. Nope. The Tonga Room is located in the basement of a very expensive-looking-used-to-be-gorgeous hotel. Thr carpet and the seating on the main floor were outdated and nasty. But nothing compared to the basement where the restaurant was. That carpet hasn't been in cleaned in probably 80 years, since the Tonga Room opened. The whole entry way smelled like pot. There was absolutely no dress code. People came from working out. Seriously! The food was just ok, but too expensive for the amount given. Not many choices at all. Yet, the most disappointing thing was "the show". I KNOW that in the past the lights were almost turned off with a ton of rain and thunder while the lit up boat was coming to the middle yo perform and then going back for the break. And now just barely some rain and some noise in the background, attempting to perform the thunder. VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED!

Service was AMAZING, our waitress Alex was very nice to us. If wasn’t for him I will leave the place immediately. Food is HORRIBLE!!! We order the coconut curry which has NO TASTE. The Pad Thai just imagine comes with Broccoli. It’s like going to Rain Forest Caffe for a triple of the price! The band music was amazing. Alcohol; No wine list, so imagine that it’s only beer and full of sugar alcoholic options. My recommendation on this place is: if you want something casual with live music and beer Hurricane Bar it’s OK. San Francisco is full of amazing restaurants and I don’t understand how Tonga Room cannot improve the quality of their food.
