My brother and his wife were visiting Santa Barbara and we enjoyed a delicious, lovely evening at Toma. Always a great evening,
We had a wonderful dinner. Started w/waiter volunteering a taste of a wine by the glass which I was unfamiliar with. Restaurant was packed, but he brought our wine out quickly. Soon after he asked if we were ready to order, but we requested a few more minutes to sip wine. No problem. We split three dishes in three courses--arugula salad, ravioli, rack of lamb. Every bite was perfect and the wines I selected w/each course were served at the perfect time. We eat there whenever we visit Santa Barbara and find it's the best, most consistent food that we've found.
It was our first time dining at Toma and we were not disappointed. The food was fresh and good - could probably could use a little more seasoning, but that was my only complaint. The cocktails were good and the creme brûlée was the best I’ve ever had. The service was great, the ambiance was nice and it just felt good.
It was the third time we’ve been there. This time we brought another couple who joined us on our rail trip up from Orange County. They loved the black spaghetti dish and we enjoyed the best lasagna we’ve ever had.
It’s nice to find a great restaurant with reasonable prices and within walking distance from the warerfront hotel accommodations.
By the way, we asked if the air that was right over us could be adjusted. The host came over immediately and he said he would turn it off and it was done. So nice of them to not make excuses for the air being on plus it was a chilly evening on St. Patrick’s Day.
Can’t wait to go back soon.

Wonderful meal. Attentive service and very well prepared dishes
One of Santa Barbara's best. Toma's has the personal touch of Tom, the owner/proprieter and somalier. Good wine selections - both local and Italian. Fabulous rack of lamb. Creative and delicious salads.
Business dinner with a colleague last night. I ordered the lamb chops rare. The first time they were served they were well done - not a sign of "pink". The second time it would be generous to call them medium. There was a spot of pink in the center of each chop but nothing red or cool. If the chef can't or won't cook lamb chops rare, he/she shouldn't accept an order for rare lamb chops. Otherwise everything was fine but definitely not the #1 Restaurant in Santa Barbara.
Our expectations were high and exceeded. Best rack of lamb ever. Casual clothes are accepted, but not the norm. It is an experience for which dressing up a bit is reasonable
We love Toma and will be back soon. We have visited multiple times for our anniversary and just a great dinner out, and it never disappoints.!
One of the nicest restaurants we've ever eaten in - friendly, professional staff, creative, delicious cuisine, welcoming atmosphere, special attention from the owner - all you could ask for in a reastaurant.
We enjoyed the Lamb Chops. The service was excellent and ambiance perfect
It was wonderful food, the waiter was especially helpful, the atmosphere was great, and the view of the beach was nice.
Waiter was rude. No acknowledgement of birthday. Fish undercooked. Bolognese was excellent.
My favorite restaurant in Santa Barbara. I have always had excellent recommendations from the servers and the rigatoni is super! Great cocktails as well. Very pleasant hostess as well.
Been there twice now and it does not disappoint. Nice portions allow me to take some home. Food is delicious and nicely presented. For us, the most important thing is the quiet ambiance.
This Italian restaurant is the best in Santa Barbara, with an excellent list of Italian wines reasonably priced. The ambiance is just right for fine dining, with tables well spaced. The service is impeccable.
Toma is always good, lovely atmosphere even if it is crowded your conversation at your table is easy to hear and you really do not notice others talking. Excellent customer service, food presentation is beautiful and all the dishes we have had there are excellent and tasty. We eat out a lot and this is one of our favorites.
We were there for SB Restaurant Week. The service overall was good. The food was very good. Substitutions were made to the dessert ordered. We were only informed After we asked if the dessert delivered was the one we ordered. No apologies, just “that the dessert we have now. “
Amazing dining experience. This may be my new favorite place in Santa Barbara. Food and service were on point.
We went for restaurant week and the selections were outstanding. Food and service were both excellent. We will return without question.
I've only eaten at Toma twice with friends. I've had an equally wonderful time and enjoyed the great food, great drinks, and most especially the great service, from the woman greeting us to our delightful and helpful waiter. Love this place and will be back. Low noise level and comfortable seating.
Went here for Santa Barbara Restaurant Week and I had such a wonderful experience. Every dish that came out blew my mind. And the server was very knowledgeable about the food. Will definitely be returning soon.
Fabulous service, delicious cuisine, cozy atmosphere - what more could you ask! A Santa Barbara treasure!!
Fabulous food, stellar service thanks to engaging Cullen! So appreciated that our table was held as I sought parking. Professional always. Salutes for involvement for the S B Restaurant Week!
Restaurant week here, so a great value. We especially appreciated the service: we told our waiter we were headed to the theatre, and he did exceptionally well by us. We'll be back!
The food and experience at Toma is wonderful. Delicious food and great service are some of the reasons we keep returning.
One of the best meals I've had. Such great food in an upscale but relaxed setting. A Santa Barbara must!
Excellent service, food and ambiance! Our go-to date night spot
Usually better. They tried to pull a profit from SB restaurant week instead of attracting new business... been eating at Toma / Emilio’s for 20 years; disappointed by my last meal, and especially the waiter for this meal
Every aspect of our dining experience was outstanding. We were offered a few different seating options, the atmosphere is intimate and quite lovely, our server was very knowledgeable and he was excellent at pacing the delivery of food and just being there when needed. The food was extremely well prepared and we found it to be one of the better Italian meals we've had in Santa Barbara. It was Santa Barbara Restaurant Week and their fixed price menu offerings were some of the best we encountered. I especially liked the tuna cone appetizer and olive oil cake. I had the ravioli and my husband had the gnocchi with shrimp and we would definitely order them again. Highly recommend.
The ambience is great as is the service. The menu was quite enticing but the food itself was bland, the presentation was sloppy, and not interesting at all. We were told this was one of the best restaurants in town therefore our expectations were high. Nevertheless, the food had nothing special about it... it was not bad at all... but simply nothing to talk about.
I an my companion enjoyed two appetizers - fried calamari and artichoke. So good. The entrees of Italian Sausage Rigatoni - excellent - and Gnocchi wonderful. But the wow part came with deserts - Olive Oil citrus cake - like nothing I ever had.. so good. And the Raspberry torte - amazing. Service.. amazing 4 different people made sure we had everything and all was okay. Never had anything like that. GO TO TOMAS
Loved it! Tonight was my first time visiting, but will definitly be back! The Tuna Cones & Calamari were to die for!!
It’s all good
Upscale without being pretentious
Very interesting menu without being “cutesy” or too clever
Fine service, very good wine list, fine service.
You can count on a wonderful experience at Toma; great food, interesting menu and personable, attentive servers .
Great food and service. Elegant ambiance. Perfect for datebook night; however it's a little tight and crowded.
I have eaten here several times before and thought it was delicious. On this occasion, it was on my recommendation that our host brought us here. This time, unfortunately, the food was a complete disappointment. Starting with the Steamed Clams, the first bite was markedly too salty! For the entree course, my selection was the Scallops with Lobster whipped potatoes. Every bite of the scallops were filled with grit, my guess is they weren't cleaned properly, as well as being "fishy." The "whipped" potatoes were not creamy at all, but rather hard. And, finally, the Creme Brulee for dessert... It should have had a coating of sugar that covered the entire custard and would have created a thick shell covering it to crack open with a spoon. However, this one didn't have the sugar even to the edges, it was so thin it barely had a shell to break, and the custard underneath that should have been chilled, or at least cool, was warm and a bit runny. Our host had the Rack of Lamb, and it was obvious that he was disappointed in his meal as he barely touched it and, being polite, just shrugged when asked if it was good - he didn't complain. The other guest had the Gnocchi and loved it, so all was not lost there. A starter order of Calamari was also shared, (I didn't try this) and they enjoyed that as well.
The hostess with the adorable short blonde haircut was lovely and charming. Our waiter was a joy, I want to say his name was Rob, but not 100% sure. He gave us excellent service, was attentive and very friendly. The music which was directly above our table in the corner was playing things like Bob Marley! What? And it was a tad too loud for this type of environment and especially with that type of music.
For the prices charged and the number of other restaurant choices available, this was not a good meal.
The service was top notch, with a very cozy ambience. The food was wonderfully prepared, eye catching and just plain out great. We especially enjoyed the evening's special which additionally was very creative with its use of spices. The wine and cocktail selection were also very good.
