Toma Restaurant & Bar
Amazing place amazing food. Charlie in the kitchen was outstanding with the food he sent out to us.
As always, we love Toma. Its outstanding. The food, service, etc. Excellent!!
Always our regular stop when visiting Santa Barbara, food is great, service great.
Ate at Toma to celebrate my birthday. Everything about the experience was excellent. The free olives were tasty as was the free bread served with the meal. We ordered the fried artichoke hearts, arugula salad, scallops, special vegan rigatoni and the olive cake. All were cooked to perfection. When the waiter learned we had a dietary restriction (vegan), he went out of his way to accommodate us with a specially-prepared rigatoni dish. I cannot wait to come back next time I am in town.
Very gluten-free friendly. The squash blossoms were so good! The scallops quite possibly were the best I’ve ever had. The lobster whipped potatoes were excellent as well. Great restaurant!
Just about our favorite SB restaurant. (Not that we have tried then all!) Delicious food, good wine list, good service. Try the grilled octopus appetizer - tender and tasty.
I have been to Toma repeatedly. The food is consistently outstanding. The ambiance is warm and welcoming. It has a nice, small, jolly bar, and dining at the bar is permitted. Overall, a superlative dining experience in a city that offers a lot of fine dining.
The food and service were both good. This is a small restaurant across the street from the water. The Ravioli was good as was the Rigatoni dish. The berry phyllo, Strawberry mouser dessert was very refreshing. Nice wine list as well.
The octopus appetizer and the squash blossoms were both amazing
Another wonderful meal with excellent service!
Toma is fabulous! We will continue to return both for special occasions and for those "let's go get a great meal" evenings.
Amazing everything!!! Food is some of the best I've ever had.
We all loved our authentic, delicious Italian dinners. Lucky us for getting Piero, from Rome, whose only night at Toma is Wednesday, as our waiter. It was a revisit for two of our party of four, who said their dinners were just as good as a couple of years ago. Consistency is great.
Small, quaint and very busy. Ahi cones as an appetizer is recommended. Rigatoni with sausage was very tasty. Ravioli was delish too; both pastas homemade. Nice selection of wine. Service was very accommodating.
Top location, excellent food after one week of americas fast food, very nice service, upper price range.
Wonderful place. Superb staff and owners. Can’t recommend this place enough.
Owner Tom Nolan has created the perfect combination of terrific food, attentive service, excellent cocktail and wine list, and a welcoming but sophisticated environment. Toma has been flawless every time we've eaten there. It's our favorite place to celebrate a special occasion. They won't make a fuss and sing you happy birthday, but you will have a guaranteed memorable experience. Highly recommended: the tuna cones, the Tuscan pear cocktail, any of their Italian wines by the glass, the black spaghetti, the gnocchi, the braised short ribs and the cioppino. One of Santa Barbara's best restaurants.
both my wife and I had a very positive experience.
we enjoyed our food and the service was dead on. I had
a pasta dish which was delicious and my wife had a Scallop
dish which she would order again. Excellent...
Really enjoyed the menu at Toma. The lasagne was fantastic. Charred romaine was one of my favorite dishes. Nice list of California and Italian wines. Affordable for a white table cloth restaurant. Great service and hospitable staff. Id recommend, especially if you’re looking for a view, a nice place to bring a date, or even your parents.
We Love Toma! It’s one of our go to places when you want great food & service AND a place to enjoy conversation!
Delicious food and remarkable service. A must when we visit Santa Barbara!
We had a wonderful experience from start to finish. We started with the tuna cones which were DELICIOUS. I had the gnocchi for my meal which melted in my mouth. My husband had the salmon in red sauce which he didn’t love as much. We had the chocolate cake for dessert which was yum! The only disappoint was the salmon and the bread not being warm. But the service, ambiance and the other food was excellent.
Service was great food was good nice atmosphere. Good location right across from the beach.
Good food. But the hostess was not helpful the day after when we tried to only have desert. The restaurant wasn’t accepting reservations, it was empty and they didn’t accept us to have desert (that we loved) only.
One of our go-to restaurants when we are in SB. Always wonderful!
An overall disappointing experience not to be repeated in the future
Everything is consistently good here. It is my new go to place!
When we arrived we were greeted and seated promptly.
The food was great and the wine pairing was excellent.
The waiter was a bit odd in how he approached us and how he served us. With the exception of this we would have rated 5 stars
Absolutely love the tuna cones and 2 of us had the scallops and they were amazing. My husband had the black pasta and didn't care for the texture of it. We usually love eating at this restaurant on a regular basis!!
Everything was great but I was surprised by the $25 corkage fee. It was not listed on their website, I looked. I should have asked.
Outstanding restaurant!!! The perfect restaurant to celebrate our 10yr wedding anniversary.
Ahi Tuna cones 5 stars. Such a unique great starter
Burrata salad 5 stars. Loved the addition of caramelized onions
Arugula salad. 5 stars. Perfect dressing for a light salad
Rigatoni with house made Italian sausage 5 stars. Such a flavorbomb of a dish.
Cioppino 4.5 stars ( could have used alittle heat/spiciness
Incredibly attentive service included by multiple stop byes by the owner
Highly recommend this restaurant
Excited to return
The location is lovely, the restaurant is a little on the shabby side. Overall, the service was good, though the waiter was a bit indifferent. The food is unfortunately nothing particularly exciting - decent Italian comfort food, expertly made, but nothing more, just tried and true flavors. You can get this type of food at so many places in New York City and elsewhere - maybe it is just unusual in Santa Barbara. It is a shame, because SB has so many fantastic places which do a modern spin on a cuisine (Loquita, Santo Mezcal) so we felt that this was a bit of a waste of a night food-wise. Their cocktails are also below par, though the wine list is decent.
We ate here on a busy Friday night. We had a reservation and were seated right away. Atmosphere seemed a bit stale but the service was nice. The food is very good. My husband ordered the lasagna - it was very flavorful and crispy on top as it should be. I had the black spaghetti which I also enjoyed. This wasn't our favorite meal in Santa Barbara but no complaints at all. It was an enjoyable evening overall.
Toma’s is one of my favorite places to eat when I visit Santa Barbara. Their grilled squid is delicious!!! We were a group of six and everyone truly enjoyed their meal and the service.
Wow! That is all I can say. The waiters are all mature with white shirts neckties and very classy. Ours was knowledgeable about wine and helped us choose a very nice wine and was very attentive to our table as well as were the others that helped him. This whole experience was great. I had the chicken with risotto and asparagus and my husband had lasagna. We had the baby artichokes and lemon aioli for an hors d’oeuvre and the chocolate cake for dessert. Everything was absolutely excellent.
We went for my husband's birthday. This was our first time at Toma and we loved it! The food and service were exceptional! We had such a great experience! I highly recommend this wonderful restaurant!
Acknowledged our anniversary with a dessert
With the closure of Downey's we believe that Toma has become the best dining choice in Santa Barbara. Don't be put off by it's location. It is not a tourist spot but a major choice for locals and knowledgeable visitors alike. While not as pretentious as some of its peers in Montecito and at State and Victoria, it's food equals or exceeds any other spot in town. Be sure to check out the sesame tuna cones, a play we think on the ones Puck pioneered at Spago years ago. For Italian cooking and seafood you cannot go wrong with Toma.
Above average in all ways
My husband and I went to Toma to celebrate his birthday and our anniversary. Our dining experience was excellent and our server was warm, friendly, and knowledgeable about the food, wine and cocktail choices. The whole team did a great job of anticipating our needs and caring for our table. We had a wonderful meal and look forward to returning.
