I would recommend the restaurant for maybe drinks so one could enjoy the view. I was really looking forward to trying this restaurant and left feeling a bit let down by the food.
The chilled shrimp and salads were okay. The special yellow tail, and the signature scallops were just so-so. I wish it had been as spectacular as the view.
Amazing views. Very good vegetarian food...deapite a limited veggie menu. Everything we ordered was delicious. The overall experience was beyond our expectations.
The lunch menu definitely needs more seafood options. The drinks were good, the food was so-so. The fish and chips was a little too bland and the lobster BLT was also quite plain in flavor. I enjoyed the lobster roll and other family members enjoyed the oysters. The view is great of course but if that weren’t a factor, it would’ve been a mediocre experience. It’s also odd that they don’t care ranch dressing for fries or salads.
You really can’t beat the view and that’s saying a lot in San Diego . The food is delicious and if you were lucky enough to have Carlos helping you through lunch it’s a recipe for a perfect experience . I also had a very professional and effortless experience making and changing my reservation and enjoyed speaking with everybody!
The crab Louis salad is amazing! And the shrimp ceviche starter was super! I love the view and the service. This is a perfect spot for a birthday lunch!
Awesome location and outstanding service. Food was great, just wished they had more selection. Not sure if I would come back again for the food, but definitely would come back for the ambiance.
The whole experience was amazing. The views were breathtaking and it was fun to see jet skiers and boats on the water. It was hot and I hoped that they moved the umbrellas in the middle so we all could share it, but otherwise everything was wonderful. The food choices were delicious. Our waitress, Maria, on Mother's Day brunch provided the best customer service I have not experienced in a long time. She kept our drinks topped off and she understood my son with special needs. I never felt so relaxed and comfortable. We will be back.
Was expecting much more based on the reviews. Service was lacking; the staff missed the basics. Food was ok and not over the top for the prices they charge. It seems that the restaurant is living off of its past. Not impressed! Beautiful view!
I’ve been eating here every May for quite a few years and I have to say the quality of the food has gone down hill. Next year I will be choosing a different restaurant.
The view was great. I would recommend Tom Ham's for the ambience. Unfortunately, my food was not that special, the service was chaotic, and the prices were pretty high. And sadly, my favorite dessert - creme brulee - not sure how, but they didn't do it right. It almost seemed like they had added gelatin or something. The texture was wrong...almost like you could slice it...not ideal.
Had lunch at the Lighthouse on a Saturday. They were busy and our service was quite poor. Sat us down with no menu or anything-waited 10 min. before anyone came to ask about drinks etc. Our sandwiches were good with a TON of fries. The crab BLT had lots of crab, but was flat-needed some dressing or something. The view of course was wonderful, and the sailboats were numerous and fun to watch. Good for a general lunch, but nothing exceptional.
Views and food were great, but the service was very slow. Maybe that’s because it was Saturday at lunch and there were several events happening that same day - would go back but this time plan for the wait.
Great views, good food and wonderful service
Came here for mother's day and my birthday. Made reservations for Saturday morning at 11:45. Honestly wasnt impressed. Sever recommended the claim chowder only to bring us tomatoe bisque and was confused when we said we wanted the chowder and not the bisque. He than checked and informed us they didnt have the chowder. Our fish and chips was undercooked and soggy and the grilled asparagus and corn salad was literally a bowl of corn and taro chips with no greens besides the asparagus. Overall a pretty disappointing experience. Wouldn't recommend. Server was too busy to be consider with us.
Food was excellent. Views of the bay and downtown were equally good. Service was mediocre. During entire meal, the waiter did not once come by to fill up water, ask us about food, or for anything else. Maybe they expect us to ask for water which is not the norm at most places we go eat.
The lighting was dim. There was a fly near our table causing irritation to most of us in the party.
Server was fine, but not coming to ask how was food or refilling water was to us a poor service.
At the end of meal we saw a fork laying on the floor, it stayed there for over 10 minute while servers were walking around serving. It seemed no server cares to pick it up. That bothered me and my daughter. May be they were interested in attending to table and didn’t care about fork in their way. We saw customers waking over it, kicking it. Or may be there are servers who serve food and there are servers who pick up empty plates and so servers didn’t care.
Came to Tom Ham’s on a recommendation from a friend. So glad we did! Food was perfectly delicious. The service was friendly and prompt. And what a view! Next time we are in San Diego we just may have to return!
Excellent service staff and food selection. The view of the Bay is amazing.
The food was delicious and the view can’t be beat. I only have a couple issues. Our entrees came out before we received our appetizer so we ended up cancelling our order of calamari. Things happen. The portion size was perfect for me as I do not like to eat a huge meal, but my boyfriend had to ask for bread after eating his entree of Paella. Perhaps he would have been full if we had gotten the calamari. I will likely give it another try.
We love Sunday Brunch at Tom Hams. The food was extraordinary as usual and we had a nice table with a view. Our only difficulty was that is was extremely noisy, so much so that it was difficult to hear the person sitting net to you. I realize that it is a problem with a large open room such as this, but it was uncomfortable.
The food was really great and the service was incredible. We got really lucky with the corner tabel that had views on both sides. We all enjoyed our experinece at Toms Hams Lighthouse.
I sent my parents there for brunch on my father's 75th birthday. They gave them a wonderful table and doted on him. They had a wonderful time and enjoyed the food immensely. It was a terrific experience all around.
We have eaten brunch at Tom Ham's on numerous occasions and with various friends as our guests and always had a very positive experience. This visit was not such an occasion. Our service was terrible. Most of the time, our waitress was standing in the corner with a champagne bottle in her hand. We brought a guest visiting from Brazil and had bragged to her how this was the best brunch and service we have had. I understand the 2hr limit, however, I have never experienced this level of rude behavior by a waitress. Our guest and daughter got up to have another plate and the waitress told them the 2 hours were up and they could take their plates down stairs and eat it there. This is not the level of service I expect. To say we were VERY disappointed and embarrassed is an understatement.
The Ceviche was amazing, I want to go back just so I can order some more. I found my new obsession.
Went to celebrate my girlfriend’s birthday. we were first time visiting from NYC. I did mention about birthday on the reservation. Also, when i got to the restaurant i spoke to hostess and she mentioned that it has already been informed to chef and taken care of. At the end of our main course the server directly brings us the check. That was so unacceptable and unprofessional from the restaurant like this. I had requested something special which didn’t happen but at least even if it would be no special occasion they should ask and offer if we would like to have desserts like they asked other tables.
Also, while we were there i saw two other tables had birthday specials on their table. Totally ruined the night.
Also, would definitely recommend checking the menu first and not get fooled by the view and location.
Loved the free flowing champagne! Our waiter made sure our glasses were never empty which was appreciated. Food was good for a buffet! Loved the views and staff. Thanks!!
Sunday brunch is way too noisy, must be the free mimosas. Best for seafood lovers.
My husband and I went there for date night and I had made reservations for inside, but when we arrived they recommended outdoors since it wasn’t that cold. I really appreciated that because we were seated at a great table with a beautiful view. Our waiter was very personable and gave great recommendations. Although the food portions were smaller than expected, the food tasted good and presented nicely. Overall we had a great time, service and view were definitely the highlights.
Fine dining should be a multi-faceted experience. At Tom Ham's Lighthouse, the view of the bay from balcony blends beautifully with the appetizers, and exquisite meals. All of the fish from the Branzino to the clams, mussels, and scallops to the seared duck arrived at the table in peak perfection. All of the staff from the hostess to the wait staff were pleasant, friendly, and informative. Our wait staff person's knowledge of the beer and wine selection was very helpful, and she recommended some lovely and quite tasty beers.
Beautiful views, excellent attentive staff, very friendly and the food was outstanding. Not as expensive as many other restaurants that don't offer nearly the quality of food and service as this one
Great ambience and service. Spectacular view. Food does not live up to pricing. The paella is not a paella. It is a paella style dish. Chilled Platters are exceedingly expensive, meaning, it does not reflect what you pay for.
Wonderful evening dinner for Easter! The Paella was superb. We had the three tired seafood! Amazing!
James , our server, was very attentive and really made our Easter celebration great !
Easter 🐣 Brunch was delicious and so many choices. Seafood bar was incredible and the omelette station too!
Loved it! Went here for our Anniversary dinner and could not have had a better view, food and experience.
What a charming restaurant with wonderful food! I had the Paella and my son had the Seafood Linguini.
The service as excellent and the ambiance outstanding. Next time I am in town I plan to eat there again!
I would have give 5 Stars but as i reviewed my bill at home, i just noticed i was billed for 1 item that i only inquired about and never ordered..
This restaurant is really lovely, the views are amazing and the service was excellent. I loved how the fish was prepared and everything tasted fresh and bright. Nothing was over cooked and seasoning was perfect. I would highly recommend Tom Hams Lighthouse. Great experience.
Went for lunch had the white cheddar burger with a mountain of fries and it was delicious. View was amazing
Wonderful beautiful day good food good service. Good food. Only one thing I would like. More umbrellas. It gets hot on the patio.
