Tidal History
Set in what was a private beach house in the 60s, Tidal’s mid-century modern design draws from the era it was built by Hollywood producer Jack Skirball. Was staying at Paradise Point and this is one of 2 restaurants we were celebrating a birthday. Service and view were great. They prove bread & salad, shareable sides and your choice of 1of 4 main courses, 4 of our guest ordered the brisket and none of them could eat it. It was very thinly sliced, tough, full of fat and smothered in BBQ sauce. Staff and management were understanding and helpful.

Will charge you 3.5% gratuity to offset California minimum wage that goes straight to the hotel not the wait staff. Servers were great, food mediocre and bad taste to the management.

Great ambiance. View of bay and lovely fire feature. Wednesday Coursed dinner was really delicious. Management accommodated Shellfish allergy with an off menu salmon. Great drinks and service and musical artist. The kids loved the rice Krispy treat dessert. We will be back.

The sun reflecting on the water at 5 oc'clock was really intense. The dozen or so ill-behaved and uncontroled preschool brats totally ruined asure if some very fine and tasty food. Way too expensive to have to put up with all those awful kids.

We went to Tidal for our 30th anniversary. We were staying at the property. My husband ordered the scallops and I ordered the pork. The scallops were extremely salty and they were not fresh. My husband was a chef at one of So Cals most popular pier fish restaurants so he knows fish near its expiration date. My pork was cold and pink inside. I was too nervous to eat it and the waiter was polite and happy to take it back to cook it further. Upon returning, he said the chef wanted me to know it’s smoked for 24 hours. It was still pink and inside and not warm at all so after about 3 more bites I decided to not eat it. The rice side and potato side was good. The portobello mushrooms were tasteless and an odd side dish with any of the main course menu choices. We didn’t eat them.
My husband ate an hour later as it just wasn’t enough for him to eat and he’s skinny! There were only 3 scallops and they were just medium size.
Salads with shrimp and bread with blue cheese were good and so was my glass of Cabernet. The key lime pie square was tiny (but just the right size dessert for me in my opinion!) and was the best part of the meal. It was delicious! When our waiter cleared the table, he noticed I hadn’t eaten much more of the pork. When he returned with our bill, he mentioned a 25% discount was taken off. That is excellent management and we were impressed and thankful with the gesture. We tried to pay cash but the waiter said they were not accepting cash. We thought that was kind of strange. We still left a 20% tip. I never think the waiter should suffer the consequences of anything gone wrong with the food.
I think the prefix menu is a great idea. Just wish the food had better flavor and more care taken in preparation and freshness.
The view outside and the fact that our dog was welcomed in with open arms was fantastic. Beautiful restaurant inside too!

Pre-fix meal. For $45 per person you only get to choose your entree- and not choose your sides or dessert. Table shares sides and size of sides was small. However the food was delicious.

We tried the Land & Sea menu Wednesday night and ordered the scallops and paid $88 for the tomahawk enhancement.

Be aware that if you order any of the enhancements, you lose out on the rest of the prix fixe dishes such as the starter and salad. So, for more money you get less food.

Our reservation was at 8:30pm and two of the entrees were already sold out - the Roasted Root Vegetable Pot Pie and the Slow Roasted Koji Beef Striploin.

Positives:
The salad and pain frites were delicious and I wish we could have each had our own servings. The scallops were also buttery and I enjoyed the flavor complements of the chorizo purée and street corn.
The ambiance is beautiful and we enjoyed the atmosphere of the outdoor seating and the tail-end of the live music performers.

Negatives:
The tomahawk was a major disappointment. Half of the 40 oz steak was fat. We requested medium rare and it came out rare. When we asked to have it cooked a little more, only one side was close to medium rare and the other side was still rare. The server offered to take it back again, but even after sending it back once, the steak was ruined.
Steak needs to be cooked well the first time and it is not difficult. This leads me to believe that the cook was inexperienced or lazy. Even a cheaper cut of steak can be saved with good preparation and seasoning but this cook managed to desecrate a tomahawk.

Amusing note: The second time I mentioned the steak not being cooked to specification, the server asked if I wanted to take it home and cook it myself…if I wanted to do that, I would have stayed home…

The manager offered a 30% discount off the total bill which was the bare minimum consolation for this experience.

You can't find another 3-course meal with waterfront views at this price. The atmosphere is awesome and the service was top-notch. We weren't thrilled about the food. It wasn't bad, it was just very basic (no interesting flavors or ingredient combinations). I think it would be a great option if you're bringing kids or pickier eaters to a "nicer" place.

We loved our table and the view at sunset - would recommend, but it won't be the best meal you've ever had.

We joined 2 of our friends for a meal at Tidal, what we thought would be a more upscale dining experience. I made reservations through Open Table for 4 at 5:30. Upon our arrival, we requested an outside table and, after too much time looking at the computer and a consult with a manager or assistant manager, we were told there were no outside tables available. Looking outside, all but a few of the outside tables were empty. When we left after out meal, there were still plenty of empty outside tables. The inside dining experience was not pleasant, with poor acoustics amplifying the noise inside preventing a normal conversation with our friends. Additionally, you could not hear the live music outside, which was one of the reasons we chose this restaurant in the first place.

The menu is designed for a one price per person for a set menu. Three of us had the fish the smoked mushrooms were under seasoned, but the cauliflower potato puree was a hit along with the Pan Frites both of which allowed for some taste satisfaction. The dessert, a lime brule' pie, was inedible. First bite gave a heavy tartness and then bitterness. We all left our dessert mostly untouched.

I would have given this restaurant one star, but the service was very good.

Overall, as long term San Diego resident, there are plenty of restaurants on or near the water that will give you great, not okay, experience. I recommend passing on Tidal and you find a better way to spend $150 for 2 for dinner.

Pleasant outdoor dining . This is a classical San Diego Hotel dining experience. Swaying palms and a view of the water and the palms. Service was pleasant; however the food was nothing to write home about. Mediocre describes the lomo lomo beef ($25) consisting of two spicy beef patties, a fried egg, and some greasy fried rice. Avocado toast ($16) was pleasant, but appeared to have been made with guacamole rather than fresh avocado. Diet cokes were $4 apiece.

In sum, nice setting, wished the food would match...

Went in on a Friday night for dinner, very noisy with children screaming/crying everywhere (which is at no fault of the staff especially at a family resort). Food was decent and either hit or miss ex: the salad had next to no dressing as was dry, salmon was excellent, mixed drinks were weak, etc. It's priced for what you'd expect a resort to be priced at. We ate off a set menu with 1 set price which apparently meant that the service was non-existant as our server barely did table touches. I'll give the benefit of the doubt as this may have been due to understaffing or other circumstances, but if that's the case, it would be a good idea to decrease the size of the sections. Considering all other elements of my visit, and as someone who has worked several years in fine dining, I wasn't very impressed and wont likely return

We thoroughly enjoy Tidal. The only drawback on Friday was four tables that included babies or toddlers. There happened to be screaming and crying for a majority of our meal. There were also young children running around and misbehaving. We understand this is a result of poor and inconsiderate parenting not poor service.

The Restaurant was difficult to contact. Opening hours are only in the evening, from Wed. to Sun. We had a special request from a fourth party because of strict dietary needs. We never received any answer, so in fact, they opted out of the dinner reservations.

The portions were very small. I ordered the scallops as the main meal and received three small scallops. In other restaurants, this small serving would be served as an appetizer.

The server tried to take away my plate, while I was still eating. We were not in a hurry, but enjoying the great views from our table.

We were served dessert, but never asked if we would like coffee. The kitchen closed at 9:00 pm, we felt as though the restaurant personnel were waiting to go home.

Would we come back? No. The Resort grounds are beautiful and we would just go to the pool bar for drinks.
As many other reviewers pointed out, there are much better restaurants in SD. Go elsewhere where food, service, and value for the $$$ is standard.

What a disappointment!! We were really looking forward to dining here because of the spectacular view and ambiance. And we checked the menu online before booking and it looked fantastic.

The problem is that on July 3, they were only offering a pre fix option! Even the kids menu was 3 courses!!!! Wth? And we did not know this until we arrived and were seated. I’m sorry, this is not a Michelin starred restaurant, it’s a normal resort dinner restaurant! We asked our very friendly server if they could make an exception and allow us to order a la carte because we didn’t even like all of the course options to possibly enjoy a pre fix, plus it’s way too much food! The manager said no!!!

Needless to say, we had only one round of very delicious drinks and then left and went next-door to the barefoot bar. It was a bit more casual than we were desiring but the food was OK and we were able to enjoy the view.

I highly recommend you call this restaurant before booking and make sure they aren’t trying to extort guests with a ridiculous multi-course pre fix menu.

Love the setting and service was spectacular. The food was disappointing, the lobster did not taste good and was tiny. The dish was served with hard butter, and no cracking tools were provided. Maybe the chefs vision just didn't come to life or it was a bad catch, but it just tasted awful. For the price it was definitely a disappointment, we always look forward to delicious seafood in San Diego!
