Wanting to try Thomas Henkelmann for a while, we finally went on a quiet Wednesday evening. The service was as expected, Magnificent. The food, uninspired, not cooked properly, NOT Relais and Chateaux!!
It may have been a special place at one time, but I can think of dozens of better restaurants in the area. Not to mention the average age of the clientele may have been 75-80 years old.
We all enjoyed our dinner very much. Waiters and staff all made our visit memorable and special.
As always the food was outstanding (we both had the Dover sole which we loved).
However the service was NOT up to par:
* Our waiter came to take our drink order, after someone else had already done that;
* When he came to take our food and order same story;
* Same story for our dessert order;
* Finally, I had to flag down another member of staff to get our final check.
This was all in all a disappointing note and not reflective of our other visits and certainly not up to the high standards of this wonderful restaurant.
The food and the service was great, as always. TH is the reliable choice for special occasions as it never disappoints. The setting is just right (comfortable chairs, spacious seating, etc.) to spend an evening with family, friends or clients.
I love going to this restaurant. I have never been disappointed. The food, service everything about it is excellent. I can't recommend it highly enough.
Thomas Henkelmann is outstanding. We go there for special occasions and sometimes just to enjoy the food and service and ambiance.
At first we were seated by a very loud table. We asked to be moved and without hesitation, we were placed at a nice quiet table.
It happened to be our 50th anniversary and they surprised us with a candle and "Happyy Aniversary" written on the plate.
Best high end dining in Fairfield and Westchester Counties. Sophisticated food and service without pretension. Utterly delightful.
We hadn’t been to the restaurant for several years but this experience was just as good as we remembered from previous visits. The service is impeccable from the moment you drive up. Our appetizers were the salmon combination and the crispy lobster triangle. Both were excellent. My wife had a soft shell crab special for her entree and I had the rack of lamb. Both our plates were completely clean when we finished. The rack of lamb was cooked to perfection. We shared a dessert which closed out the meal quite well. The prices are pretty steep but the quality of the food , the ambiance of the restaurant, and the dining experience itself make it worth the cost. We will return sooner this time.
Overpriced for mediocre service and food. It took 15 minutes for them to run our bill. No refill on water or checkin while we waited. Sort of typical of New England - cold personality-style snooty place with unfriendly vibe. The winter-blues seem
Amazing food, service and ambiance
Our favorite restaurant . The place to go to celebrate our anniversary. The food and staff all wonderful.
This is an amazing restaurant... everything perfect... highly recommend
Food was outstanding. Service was outstanding. We sat in the outer room, which is like an enclosed porch, overlooking the stunning gardens. Love this place!!
Service always excellent and the food outstanding.
Upscale dining with excellent refined service. From arrival to departure staff very attentive.
My only concern regarding my last visit is that for that kind of dinner it should last longer than -1 hour. Food came out too quickly between appetizers and main course
We were seated in an the porch on the right which was fully occupied. It was very noisy with10 people talking.
For these prices, I would have appreciated being seated on the left porch where there was plenty of room.
THE EXCESSIVE NOISE LEVEL FROM OTHER PATRONS DID NOT MAKE THIS AN ENJOYABLE EXPERIENCE. I COULD HARDLY HEAR MY DAUGHTER OR WIFE SPEAK DUE TO NOISE AND LAUGHTER.
NEXT TIME PLEASE SIT ME IN A QUIET AREA AS I HAD REQUESTED.
I NOTED IT WAS OUR ANNIVERSARY ON THE RESERVATION BUT NO MENTION WAS MADE OF IT.
It is always consistently fabulous. Pierre and Umberto are treasures to deal with.
Spectacular setting, service and food! Always a treat to dine here!
Formal, yet relaxing atmosphere
This restaurant is a gem.
Wonderful! Been three times and as always, food was fabulous, service delightful. Can’t wait for our next visit.
A refined setting with classically- and well-prepared dishes. Nothing pushing the culinary boundaries, but very true to traditions and a very fine output on almost each and every plate. A go-to spot when we want good food in an attractive and tranquil setting.
Service is solid, though bread always seems to be offered once, then needs to be requested (a nitpick complaint). And our waiter this time may have been a little bit too relaxed compared to the oldtimers, though never overly intrusive.
We've always come back here because it's consistently good. A we will definitely go back again.
The most outstanding meal I have experienced celebrating my best friends wedding anniversary. Everything was done with perfection, starting with Pierre, the Maitre'd, down to every server, and the food was the best ever. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Great dining experience, beautiful setting.
Food was very good, wait staff was excellent, but the deserts....oh the deserts....fantastic. The chef really takes pride in everything he does and it truly shows. Almost forgot to mention the drinks.....done perfectly.
When we arrived for a 6:00 reservation the restaurant was pretty empty. We were ushered into a tiny room which we were the only ones. The main dining room was fairly empty. Then they put a child and parents next to us. For a celebratory dinner and an expensive dinner why we had they had to put people on top of us. I asked the waiter to make sure no "shell fish" was put on my plate as I am allergic. When the Bernaise sauce came for my steak the waiter wanted to take it away because he thought it had shell fish.
The service was fair. The vegetables had no taste - they tasted steamed with no sauce. My sirlion steak was good and that was pretty much what I ate. The french fries did get wet from the wet vegetable. I will not ever go back.
Consistently outstanding food, service and ambiance.
Our go to place for special occasions.
As always we enjoyed all !! The staff is very attentive . Our meals are always to perfection!! We always look forward to our evening dinners. At this time of the year the garden is blooming. In the fall , winter ( holiday’s ) beautiful! Too
The service and food were outstanding.
Great French menu. Expert service.
A classic French Chateaux date night spot.... Jackets preferred
Absolutely spectacular food quality. Started with delectable never before experienced oysters. Halibut flawlessly moist, delicious, flavorful fish on a bed of julienned vegetables which still tasted like another great fish. Dessert was tart, delectable sorbets enhanced with impeccable berries and fruits which I savored with a grand marnier in the rocks. Service was sublime and the building is incredibly romantic at every turn. Finest restaurant experience since Charley Trotter in Chicago. In a word..flawless
Thomas Henklemann never disappoints. You're instantly transported to another world. One that's full of incredible tranquility, spectacular food, and a welcoming and attentive staff. Our experiences always exceed our expectations. This is a very special place and we're grateful each and every time we dine with them.
Outstanding from drinks on front patio served graciously followed by an outstanding meal for four. Highly recommended!
Great French cuisine and attentive wait staff. Always the place to go for an important and not so important celebration!!!
I love this restaurant. My mother doesn’t even drink but loved sitting in the bar & outdoor area! We had a floating Mother’s Day meal, as one of my family members is undergoing chemo. The restaurant was so accommodating, without bringing attention to the note I made on our Open Table reservation. On top of that, the food was incredible, as always. Duck is the best I’ve had in a long time. Thank you to this restaurant for a perfect floating Mother’s Day dinner.
We had long anticipated the opportunity to dine at this Relais et Chateaux property and recently visited for luncheon with out-of town visitors. We were utterly charmed by its gardens, sculpture and fanciful and creative decor. Sadly, the food uniformly disappointed, demonstrating little state-of-art culinary flare and a lack of agreeable flavors. We wanted very badly to love this place....perhaps we will try again at the dinner service.
The experience was great!! Would definitely recommend to a friend
My three friends and I (all males, well above 70 years old) make a point of getting together once a month, in the tri-state area over an extended lunch. We try out a new restaurant each time. This one is a winner. The weather cooperated and we sat in the verandah, amid a view of fresh spring flowers and the manicured green lawns. Service was pleasant, with discreet smiles all over the place. The meal was just right, down to the details. Pangs of guilt about the chocolate soufflé are still weighing on my conscience. All this plus we could hear ourselves talk, without raising our voices. As I said, a winner...
