A splendid setting. The manager, Robert Horton, and his staff are valiantly trying to keep things running despite being only 50% staffed. The food is good and the ambience first rate. You will spend more at other places on Sanibel or Captiva, but you won’t have the view or setting.
Great place, service and menu.
Fine dining at reasonable pricing.
Wonderful anniversary dinner location. The food was impeccable, the monitor was fresh and natural, and the service stellar. We will remember this as a wonderful special occasion.
Great food good service.
Super, super delicious! Very recomend ✔️
Best meal we had on Sanibel. Would highly recommend.
Our server was Jennifer and she was very attentive and nice. The food was delicious, well prepared and served well. Definitely try the grilled octopus!!
Service was very slow and they weren’t even busy. Food was way overpriced and definitely not worth it. The view was pretty, but other than that, not a pleasant experience.
Beautiful grounds upon arrival with lush gardens and water scapes. Staff very cordial and a great view of the gulf…quite special. Lobster bisque excellent and same true for the Rack of Lamb and lobster/crab topped scallops; server offered recommendations and pleasant Definitely recommended and will return.
Delicious meal, great view, great service. Great place for a date night, not ideal for little kiddos.
Thistle Lodge Restaurant is always delicious and never disappoints. We always eat there when visiting Sanibel. We tried the octopus appetizer (brave for me) and it was very good!! I had a Cesar salad, corvina special served over risotto and flourless chocolate cake. Our waiter paired wine which was perfect. Others in group had beet salad, black grouper, espresso crusted lamb rack, seafood Provençal and cream brûlée—all were delicious and cooked to perfection.
We were having dinner with friends and the dinning room had a great view and was quiet enough for conversation.
We will definitely eat here again!!
We have been enjoying The Thistle Lodge for over 30 years!
But this year it was just terrible!
We were a party of 4. To start things off, my daughter ordered a Lemon Drop Martini and it arrived rimmed in salt. When telling the waitress she replied "No, that's sugar!" And then realized it was salt and did make her a new drink. Our caesar salad was bland and had only the taste of anchovy! Our crab cake was fishy and the Seas bass was also very fishy. We are Floridians and appreciate Seafood and know when its fresh and tasty! These dishes were anything but. The other dish was Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo, this dish was okay but just not for the caliber of quality that The Thistle Lodge is trying to portray. The redeeming dish was the Pistachio Crusted Salmon...very yummy!
For the dessert we ordered Key Lime Pie and Flourless Chocolate Cake, they were good but pretty generic.
For the price they are charging The Thistle Lodge really needs to up their game!
It's sad because the view and ambiance is absolutely beautiful!
The food and view are always great. The service was smooth and prompt. We went to the Sunday brunch and found the menu to be varied and appetizing.
Great location, ambience and service. Angelina was very attentive.
Arrived.first night. Sat at bar then went to table with nice view inside. Staff was great shout out to waitress Angenina. Appetizers lobster bisque and mussels were delicious. Filet mignon with risotto and asparagus great and seafood Provencal was delicious.
The entrees are heavy but flavorful. Our server was very nice and experienced, but the current economy of restaurants doesn’t allow as for as much help as they need. The view was beautiful.
The meal was excellent , salmon the best I have had . My husband got the filet and scallops cooked to perfection . We will be back for sure !
Things seemed a little off the night we went. First, no one had bothered to read the comments on our reservation and made no mention of the server or window table we requested when we arrived. That’s because no one had noticed our reservation. It wasn’t even busy, so we were kind of surprised when we were seated at a cramped table for two that overlooked the pool (not the Gulf, as we’d hoped), even though we were surrounded by empty 4-tops that were fully set. Our server was very pleasant, but returned to our table only to deliver a drink, our meals and the check. She never checked to see if we needed anything, how we liked the food, etc. She didn’t even bother to light our candle, which I switched out with one on a neighboring (empty) table. Fortunately, the food tasted delicious as usual. In fact, we’ve never been disappointed with Thistle Lodge in that regard. I can’t say the same for my Key Lime martini, which looked and tasted like sour mix and lime juice. A raw lime would have been equally refreshing and possibly less tart. It was nothing like the creamy, dreamy concoction they usually serve. We skipped dessert. In the hope that our most recent experience was an aberration, we will return to Thistle Lodge. But that will likely be later than sooner.
Everything was awesome!
Very nice restaurant and atmosphere. View was magnificent and black grouper was outstanding.
We had a great meal. Service was great and food delicious. Definitely a return trip.
Booked an ocean view table for a month, to celebrate our 45 anniversary. They called a day before our reservation and said they booked a wedding but could move us inside to a window view, I said ok. Went to the restaurant the Manager said the AC was not working and it was 80 degrees inside by the windows but could seat us by the bar which had some air. We agreed, my medium well stake was cooked rare, could not understand anything our sever said, mask made it even worse. Our view was of a huge white tent. Everything piled on made it a bad experience. Way better places to eat on the Island for the money.
Surprisingly mediocre for such a upscale hotel
Beautiful location and very good food and service.
Beautiful place with great Gulf views. Food tasted good. Simple sides and tasty proteins. Dirty window sill and unenthusiastic server. One and done.
From the moment we arrived, everything was exceptional. Rosa was right on her game with everything. Our view was spectacular. The drink at the bar that was prepared for us before our walk on the beach was perfect. I have lived here all my life and cannot believe I never went here for dinner. I feel it is the best restaurant on Sanibel since our visit. Thank you.
Great food with a great view when seating inside. Outside seating is the pool view.
We celebrated our daughter’s 18th Birthday!
Restaurant was beautiful. Staffers were “ normal”. The ocean/pool views were calming. Food…. Let me just say was amazing! Our waitress was spot on in her knowledge in every aspect of the menu. All six of us were pleasantly surprised with such a fabulous meal. Thank You!
The food was disappointing as for the price I expected it to be wow! The appetizer of mussels was very good. The grouper was tasty but I’ve had better. Also where we were seated was in a very closed area! I guess I could have asked to be moved.
Food was good but not sure it was worth the price although everything is expensive on Sanibel Island. Maybe they were short staffed but service was pretty slow; about 35-40 mins to get our first drink (besides water) and no bread or anything brought to the table until after drinks and requested. After that, food came fairly quickly. Dining area was extremely noisy but May have been the one party that thought everyone wanted to hear their conversation! Overall, food was good but not sure the value is there!
After reading all the great reviews.we wanted to try it. My husbands salad greens were old. Our cocktails were served in a juice size glass at 12.00 a drink. Husband had scallop dish with stuff crabmeat, was ok but said not worth the 59.00 charge. I ordered a ribeye that I didn’t notice came with a glaze but came out swimming in sauce. Waitress came over and offered a spoon to take some of the sauce off. Very disappointed for a very pretty looking spot on the water. We were comped a dessert which leads me to believe it’s not the first time this happened
Will not be wasting our time going back there.
Very nice restaurant. Food was delicious but slightly pricy. Patio was closed when we originally requested outdoor seating so we had to sit inside. View isn’t as good as portrayed. Overlooked a very active pool full of kids. Still enjoyed everything but not able to give 5 stars.
Me and my husband wanted a romantic dinner for our anniversary while we are on vacation. There is no outdoor seating at 8:30 due to turtle migration which I didn’t know before I booked. We were seated next to a big group which was noisy. We were given an anniversary card. The waiter spilled an entire glass of water all down my dress which I was kind and patient about bit even being a special occasion and water getting spilled, we were not given a free dessert or anything. Wish we would have picked a better place. I will say the food was good though.
Love this restaurant!! Awesome food and service!!
Beautiful view of the beach!!
The lodge and view are beautiful. We really felt like we found a gem when we arrived, but the hostess was just awful. we went for our 30 year wedding anniversary and we were very excited to come here. When we arrived, the hostess barely looked at us, told us to hold on, then disappeared. Fortunately, a manager came over and helped us and congratulated us so we felt like at least we were acknowledged. When the hostess came back, he told her it was our anniversary - she said nothing and walked us to our table. Her approach made me want to leave. I mean, who goes to a supposedly upscale restaurant to be handled as though we were putting her out? The prices were ridiculously high and the food was sub-par. Overcooked and over salted side dishes and steak that had a sauce that was extremely bland and not needed. Our waiter was good and fairly attentive. Again, nothing said about the anniversary. We laughed it off and had a nice dinner and enjoyed what we had and the view, but service and overall ambience was severely lacking for this scale of restaurant. I wouldn't go back.
Went for our 40th anniversary dinner, food, service and atmosphere was perfect! Will definitely go back!
Server was nice. Food was “meh”. The “special” was bland, the steaks were overage and presentation was horrible. We sat outside, which is right next to the pools with small kids playing- which is sweet, but not while eating you $45 filet. Just not good and certainly not nearly as good as they seem to think (based on their prices).
Food was excellent.....service was horrible.
The Caesar salad seemed wet, I don't think the lettuce was adequately drained. The triple tail (fish) was outstanding. The setting looking out at the gulf is excellent. This is certainly a "go to" place on Sanibel.
