About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Great for fine wines
  • Romantic
The Winery Restaurant has been an icon among western Colorado restaurants for over 35 years. The restaurant makes its home in a 95 year old building that used to house a horse drawn fire station. A gas lamp lit, grapevine canopied alley frames this romantic location perfectly. The beautifully remodeled building contains flowered stain glass windows, barn wood and bricks.

Steve Thoms acquired the restaurant in late June of 2004 after taking a couple of years off from his previous restaurant. His mission at he Winery is simple: Show the restaurant and its patrons the attention that they deserve. Use only top quality ingredients, and establish The Winery as the premiere restaurant in the Grand Junction area.

The Winery provides a variety of steaks, chicken, pork and fresh seafood specials nightly in an atmosphere that can not be rivaled anywhere!

For an elegant, absolutely superb dining experience for any occasion, but especially to reward yourself, The Winery is THE choice. This is Bob's and my favorite place to DINE in the whole world. Owner Steve Thoms is amazing, kind, considerate, thoughtful, and obviously a restaurateur par excellence! Our server Stephen was outstanding! The food was fantastic, beginning with the calamari appetizer that's the best in the world, continuing on through our bacon-wrapped filet mignon. There are always specials, but these are our favorites! GO AND ENJOY!

I hope The Winery was just having a bad night and this experience isn’t standard. Service was composed of long waits, and excuses. We were told by the manager that our server was busy with a large group and that it was his fault for assigning the server to us. And that they were short staffed because it was Father’s Day. On that theory it’s unclear why they took our reservation which was made only 3 hours prior. The food was consumable but not good. The Cesar salad was drenched in dressing, the bacon wrapped scallops had a bbq type sauce saturating them, overwhelming the flavor. The sea bass itself was fine. But the accompanying mashed potatoes were salty and a weir brown color. This was my first time at The Winery. It’s unclear how they justify their pricing with the above fall throughs.

This is our favorite go to special occasion restaurant. The food and service are always consistently top notch and even superior. Steve is always the kindest most gracious host, and his employees are all so attentive to our wants and needs. This is the best restaurant in the city, and it where we always suggest our that our friends, family, strangers and neighbors should go.
